The Tulip Study is framed! And, Fatima .....

I finally picked up the Tulip Study from the framer! It is a wooden shadow box, with a gold mat to accent the gold in the border. I also put museum quality glass on the front of this one. Notice I did not get a reflection from the camera!

I also have been stitching away on the background for Fatima the Flamingo! She is really getting close to be done!

A Tulip Study is Finished!

Here it is! I finished cutting out all the leaves and attached them. I also removed the leaf from the First Kiss and redid it. It just did not look right to me, so I messed with it a little more, and got a more natural look, I think. When DH looked at the finished piece, he said "but they are sticking out, is that right?" LOL Anyway, I will mount the piece on batting and the foam core tomorrow and take it to the framer on Tuesday. I will post a photo of the framed piece when it returns.

Busy....busy

First, all of the Tulip Akela is done! I finished filling in all the white, and then added a pink stem stitch vein and some shading at the bottom of the large petal.

Next I did the finishing on the Kick Back and Stitch, Octagon #8, in a black box for that birthday gift! Several of you commented you thought it might be yours as you have a birthday in July, and so do I!, but it isn't for any of us! Two point to Jane as she guessed as much!

Next, I started Tulip Esther. I have couched the wire and buttonholed the two outside petals!

Boy, am I proud of myself or what? LOL

Kick Back and Stitch

As you know, I belong to a group that stitches on Saturday mornings. We started several years ago, meeting and stitching for a couple of hours. We talk, laugh, drink coffee, and stitch. It is a great group of gals. Anyway, everyone is working on different projects right now. Some times, we all work on the same thing. Like, the topiary trees. Some are still finishing theirs, and most of them are totally different. When they are all done, I will see about posting a photo of them. This piece, I just finished, is by Kick Back and Stitch. It was worked on green 18 count canvas, and used overdyed Caron, Kreinik, Splendor and Very Velvet. I have put a piece of gold lame' behind it and tomorrow I will put it in a black box top. It is going to be a birthday present for someone who shall remain nameless at this point as she reads the blog! She might guess at this point, but will not know until her birthday!

I also finished the middle petal of Akela Tulip except for the stem and incremental bottom shading. I will do that tomorrow and post a photo then. I also am going to try and finish the third petal as well. This tulip is white, with pinkish, dark mauve shading, and I hope tomorrow's photo turns out better so you can tell that.

A previous stumpwork piece

While I am filling in the third leaf with the stem stitch, I thought you might enjoy seeing a piece of stumpwork that I did a while ago. The bottom forefront and back center leaves were stitched onto the fabric. The top back leaves are stumpwork, and the berries are beads covered with row after row of thread.

This is a view from the side, so you can see how the leaves stand away from the piece.

Tomorrow, I will finish filling in the third leaf.

A Tulip Study

This is A Tulip Study designed by Kathryn Drummond under her designer name as Gingerbread Girl. Kathryn has graciously given me her permission to blog stitch this piece! It is a gorgeous design that is worked on a 13 x 13 piece of 24 count white Congress cloth. It is a counted piece that will have a decorative stitch border and the stumpwork tulips rest on a bargello pattern. the pattern calls for DMC perle cotton, Rainbow Gallery Crystal Braid, Needle Necessitites floss, weeks dye Works floss, and Sampler Threads floss.

I will begin stitching this piece in the next day or two. Right now I am doing the finishing on the Needle Nook, and hope to get it finished Thursday evening.
