Summer cleaning is the same as Spring cleaning, isn't it?

Hello lovely people.

It's finally summer...yay!

Time for BBQs, beach ball and booze. Well, not like you *need* a sessional change to enjoy those things, especially if you live in California. Okay, I won't rub it in.

But for a lot of people all over the world the weather is nice and bright and new. What do you do on those first few days, why mop the floor, what else!?

Oh wait, that's what I do.

Viva! pt 2: The blur of concerts, booze and dancing

Day two, three four, possibly five of Viva. They were all a blur, and I was busy having fun, so I only remembered to grab a picture when I could.

I felt like wearing a dress yesterday. It's going to be cold and rainy for the rest of the weekend but I wanted to wear a dress, dammit. You know how you get those urges. 

Most of my dresses are a bit large, and my wool ones are too large.

What I did all day yesterday.

I hope you all are recovering from food coma, dysfunctional family, and too much wine. It's all about the wine. Me? I had a quiet time at home, forgoing friends because I just wanted to be alone. I do love being at home and I'm not tired of it. All my stuff is here, all my sewing is here and I have projects to do, damnit.

My first bias cut skirt, and a vacation.

I have this bias cut skirt I got a long time ago at Macy's for a song. It's an Eddie Bauer, and it's black linen, fully lined. I remember wearing it the other night to Cicada club and just loving the way it swooshed and galloped as I walked. Of course a lot of that was because of the weight of the fabric, and even the lining, but it felt so feminine and sexy.

Then I got to thinking, why don't I ever make my own bias cut items?

Well, as I'm sure you all know, it takes up mega tons of fabric. Mega tons is an understatement, shit load would be more accurate.

I have often thought about this and not because 

I don't really listen to modern music.

I don't.

I've been sewing, just nothing fun.

Geeze, no post since Tuesday!? I am one mega lame blogger, ain't I?

Rest assured, it's not solely because I'm lazy. I've been sewing, a lot as a matter of fact, just nothing cool. I've been doing a lot of alterations and fixes of things for friends. I recently has an, "I invite you over so I can get your alterations measured because I'm sick of hearing how you lovely people need to get stuff to me to fix," day, and although a few people came (more later to day as a matter of fact), man, do folks need stuff fixed! 

I've got a good 10+ hours of mending in the waits, and sewing is how I pay for dancing.

As for me, no man, other than my apartment boyfriend, Fred. Our relationship is still new and I don't think person/apartment marriage is recognized in the state of California.

Moving on...
I have to apologize for the lack of posts these couple of weeks. I've been finishing the unpacking and just organizing and putting things away. That and the Air Raid (I'm waiting on a couple of pics and video) and dance class two nights a week. Busy, busy, busy!

Your pants too big!

Made these cords years ago. It was before I got my jeans fit from my repro. I made about three pair of corduroy pants, in what I thought was a good loose 40s fit. Now, they are just too droopy on the sides. It's kind of embarrassing. I'm talking each leg like 5" too much fabric.

The dyeing was a success!

Here is the re-dye of the botched RIT sweater from the other day. The outcome is really more orange than this salmon color pictured, but you get the idea.

September is gonna be different!

Happy new month everyone!

Last month was probably my worst in a long time. I'm glad it's over.

I've got a slew of things already happening. My new scanner should be here TODAY, and I'm super excited! Two weeks with no scanner has been crap. I never knew how much I used it and how vital it was to a lot of my work. Some things just ground to a halt. I have a doctor's appointment next week. I still have my throat congestion, so I'm glad to get it looked at.

I also have about three leads on some freelance, long term freelance. I don't know how it will all play out, but I'm going to stay positive about it.

Through all the stress of last month, I did manage to get started on my #2 of the PPP. I'm using some vintage flower seersucker that I bought from Playclothes. I had to do a lot of piecing, including a panel of the skirt.

Making the Bra Pt 1

Here we are. It's as if the stars have alined and all in the world is right. Lions sleeping with the lambs, roses growing on salted earth, and the weather is pleasantly 76 degrees worldwide.

Yeah right.

Here in reality, all I can say is that per the request of so many of you lovely, lovely ladies, I'm going to make the bra from my very, very popular reproduction pattern.

My hair the other day, well, half way my hair the other day.

So I started on the dress. I didn't really mean to, but after I did the pattern adjustments, a little voice said, "It won't take too long to cut out your muslin. Go for it." The voice was right. Gotta love those simple patterns.
