Mexican Painted Skirt restoration...and news!

 Hey everyone!

It's been a while since I've done a sewing post. I've been busy, and I think I'm nearly ready to reveal why. But first, check out this AMAZING Mexican painted skirt I got a couple months ago.

It has the same image on both sides and it is in amazing shape. The more I looked over it I realized most of these skirts were made to be disposable because of how cheap the fabric is that they are made of. In any case, this amazing sample has stood the test of time and she is mine now.

Hello lovely people. I hope you all forgive me for my hiatus as I scrambled to find work. The news is, I haven't found any long term work, but I'm trying to get out of my rut and get back into the blog and just trudge on. I hope and I'm working on leads for things (let me know if you found some!) and maybe something will come up soon.

Sewing Side Work

Hello all.

I'd like to thank you all for all the support over these past days.

It's been much appreciated. 

Still no luck on the job front and I'm trying to stay positive, but stress is stress.

In the mean time, I'm cobbling together some of my odd jobs and seeing how far I can go.

One of which is my gig of doing alterations/mending of vintage for Playclothes.

If you have never been to Playclothes, you should. It's one of the best vintage clothing stores in California. 

The sewing you hate to do.

We all have them. That one swing thing/technique you just can't stand doing. It's not necessarily something that may be time consuming, or even difficult, but you just loath even the thought of starting it, let along finishing it.

Projects come together.

A fifties (wedding) dress fairy tale.

Once upon a time, there was a lovely bride to be. 
Amy was her name and what did she see?

She came across a dress from the mid-centurty, 
an ivory satin gown that needed TLC.

Alterations alterations.

The loveseat restoration is coming along. This is the SECOND soak of the cushions. You don't wanna see the water color of the first soak.

Finally I got the videos and the pictures of the suit!

First things first, the rest of the tailoring info.

As I undid the previous mending on the seat of the slacks, I paid extra close attention to matching. My main match was the seam that was from the waistline to the seat. Sure, it caused the pinstripes to me slightly mismatched, but that was from the original cut, there is nothing that can be done for that.

As for me, no man, other than my apartment boyfriend, Fred. Our relationship is still new and I don't think person/apartment marriage is recognized in the state of California.

Moving on...
I have to apologize for the lack of posts these couple of weeks. I've been finishing the unpacking and just organizing and putting things away. That and the Air Raid (I'm waiting on a couple of pics and video) and dance class two nights a week. Busy, busy, busy!
