Mavala Milky

My new favourite coral-peach. 2 coats of Mavala-lousness. *It just never gets old!* Just maybe could take a 3rd coat. Application as easy as (insert here your personally-favoured dubious analogy referring to a woman's sexual availability) ...... anything.

Next up in the Mavala-fest will be Daring Pink.

Bourjois Rose Corset

  • It isn't rose.Well, roses can be this kinda shade but when we say 'rose' we don't think of this colour, do we?
  • It has nothing whatever to do with corsets that I can think of.
  • 2 or 3 coats
  • Great Bourjois thick quality
  • Love the Bourjois brush
  • It's one of the shades du jour
Jenni
Is Bourjois too expensive? Discuss. Sorry to be so bossy.

2true Fast Dry 03 from Superdrug

Only 2 coats. 3 for a fiver from Superdrug. Crikey. You can't turn it down. As recommended by Helen of Just Nice Things. And she knows a good polish when she sees one. I know the bottles are only 7ml (a mini in US terms) but stap m' vitals and knock me down with a nail buffer if that isn't a fair bargain. The flash has washed this out slightly. In sun it's almost neon. But shiny!

I know I was moaning about pink (MO Lili's Pink, to be precise) making me feel really 'old lady' but this is coral. And it's not frosty or shimmery. So I feel cool about it.

Do you feel awkward wearing particular shades? As if some colours simply don't suit your 'image'? Too edgy or not edgy enough? That kinda thing....

Nails Inc Drury Lane

I'm growing ever fonder of Nails Inc. This is 2 coats and could maybe have used another. Index finger mattified.

And for why do I like Nails Inc?

  • They are usually good quality.
  • You can get bargains on ebay, discount cosmetics sites (ravencosmetics, for example) or just wait for the official website deals. A lot of people qvc them and I imagine that is also reasonable.
  • Don't pay the silly RRP they quote though. Please. You'll give them delusions of grandeur.
Negatives?
  • The cap is not easy to manage with small hands.
  • They do way too many pinks and reds.
I have become a complete coral-queen recently. Used to loathe the colour!

Your views on Nails Inc?
Are you a convert to any particular colour or brand you used once to detest?

PS

Interior of the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane c.1808. And, as I'm sure you remember, the muffin man resides in Drury Lane. Wonder if he frequents the theatre much...

And as a bonus -a muffin in pre-toasted condition. So generous I am today!

Kinetics Coral Sea + Bourjois Rose Corset

The accent finger is Bourjois. See below.
Both polishes are superb. This is the only Kinetics I have and the ebay-tailer is no longer listing them so I am stuffed. 2 coats over my worst (RH) nails.Like the proverbial butter.

Got Coral Sea because I'd seen it elsewhere.
http://shortnchic.blogspot.com/2011/03/coral-fixation-kinetics-nail-colors.html

In a massively coral-loving mood at the moment. The Bourjois has been sitting in a basket for months now. I anticipated a streaky multi-coated mess as it's pale and pastel but it built up beautifully after 3 coats with no drama whatsoever.

Today I am happy with my nails. If you know anywhere in the UK that I can get Kinetics for less than £5.50 a pop then please share. It was worth every penny and I would pay more but any bargains are welcome...

I am crazy for coral/peach at present whereas normally they are shades that really don't appeal. Do you have any current fads or fancies?

Coral ombre - or whatever it's called...

I felt like a bit of coral but it's fairly boring so I did 5.
They are:

Missguided Misschievous *
Nails Inc Drury Lane *
Rimmel Apricot Punch
Jessica My Cabana Boy
Rimmel Sunrise
* first time I've used them

3 coats of each to greater or lesser effect...

Conclusions
  • The Missguided is a tad red in some lights - certainly the best coverage/quality except maybe Sunrise which is a bit frosty/shimmery so not exactly comparable
  • The cremes I'd used before had gone gloopy - boo - I don't like gloopy
  • They all look closer on the nail than in the bottle - weird - so it didn't turn out as expected
  • The Jessica turned out neon and matte (not as I had remembered it)

I had to slather serum (hair serum) over my hands to make any photo even remotely acceptable. First off I used the 'vignette' function in iPhoto to try to capture the colours whilst simultaneously disguising my sloughing-snakesin mitts. Yuk. I quite like the vignette feature. Can cover a multitude of sins. In dire need of Photoshop.

Doesn't coral come in lots of colours? So why do we call this soft-orange 'coral'? Anybody know anything about coral? The more you say it the odder it sounds as a word, I find.

Essie + a puzzle/Hokey cokey karaoke and let the dog see the rabbit...

Here's an Essie

Got it for £3.50. Didn't much like it in the bottle. 3 coats. LOVE it on. L O V E   I T.

Here's the puzzle!
A recent Rimmel polish was called Coralicious because it was coral-coloured. That's my opening example. Other polishes with the colour in the name are: Ruby Pumps, Red Stallion, Blue Moon.

So what did Essie call THIS?
What colour family do you think this belongs to?

I want you to guess by posting a comment, if you feel so inclined.
But the answer (the actual moniker by which this is marketed) can be found below. Highlight the supposedly blank area and you will see what it's called.

Mauve-ing Along

Now you can call me a blind old bat with the colour sense of a mole in a hole but I really don't think that this polish can be called mauve. But what do you think?
I'm going to post my 5 Cherry tag blogger/folk/peeps later today and an Illamasqua question.

Rimmel 60 seconds Coralicious

That was an easy title....

The Orly yellow was...yellow. No, actually it wasn't. It was very green-leaning. So now that I have a yellow I can move on. It's not the greatest yellow but it's OK. I got one.

Had to go though. Aha, thought I, coral!!!
Now then - what is coral exactly? I wouldn't know it if I stubbed my toe on it anyway.
But what makes a coral polish coral?

If you get something called Coralicious you think you must be there or thereabouts. But what about that shades that aren't called Coral Delight, Coral Surprise or Don't forget to coral me.....?

Cor, I really like this. It goes well with the blue accent. 2 coats but I added a 3rd for some bizarre reason. No top coat on this. A really easy polish to work with. Not streaky.

I luuuuuuuuuuuurve the little, fat brush. Little and fat is good and I should know!!! The brush is a lot stubbier than it look on the cap.

I'm going to have to get some more in this range.

BUT I still don't know what coral is. I mean - this is orangey red. Yes?

One pic seems insufficient so..

Bullfinches from the bottom of our garden.
Do THEY have coral breasts?
Do you have any thoughts on coral?

Jessica My Cabana Boy - coral creme

I must be quick as I have one of those missives from the postperson inviting me to collect 2 (yes, TWO) parcels! Can only be nail bobbins. Unless a mysterious admirer has decided to send me unsolicited gifts! Probably not...

Bought because it was cheaper than usual.
I believe I can't wear orange/peach and. by extension, coral. So - time to test my theory.
This (above) is 2 coats + GOSH Rainbow because...

I saw this photo and realised that it was streaky. Ah, the power of the camera lens!
This is with topcoat because it does dry matte to semi-matte.
So I added a 3rd coat. Yer real professional routinely does 3 (polishaddict - sadly too busy with important legal affairs to upkeep her blog) minimum. And then got the matte effect again.

I bought ridge filler (for blindingly obvious reasons) and £10 (I kid you not) on a nail file. A Leighton Denny crystal nail file. The larger one was £14!!!
The small one is smaller and has a box. Now the big one had no box. That's not sensible. I wanted the case/container for that money. And who needs a big nail file anyway? A person with big hands and that's not me.
My previous nail filing (when done at all) was with any old emery board/match box I could find at the drop of a beret. And to be frank you could tell. You could definitely tell.

Even more bizarrely the other hand is coral too. I never do that. My hands are always asymmetrical. Not the same corals as THIS hand but at a casual glance you'd think I had matched hands today. Not entirely comfortable with that. I look as if I might be acting my age. Eeek. Worse. Old-lady coral.

Believe me, the other hand is way better.
I think the Jessica is a lovely polish for some people. I don't dislike it but I'm going to have to go Twilight or something soon.

Let's have a not-so-heated debate.
Do you file nails damp or dry?
Do you resent spending money on a nail file?
Do you use ridge filler?
Which is a better use of cash - on preparation of the nail (lotions/remover etc) OR on colours?

I thank you
Jenni-FUR (all that dog hair I haven't yet shaken off)

Jessica jellies - Aqua and Coral

Aqua and coral - they ought to go well together, yes?

Hark at me! As if I go diving in the lucid waters off the Great Barrier Reef every morning before breaking my fast with a grilled sea-trout and papaya.
I did go to Blackpool once...

Lots of coats. In sun.
No base coat and no top coat.
A I'm getting lazy
B I'm somewhat thrifty
C I'm desperately impatient and I just wanted to get on with it and it took an age to remove the glitter plus I knocked a brush on the carpet, made the mistake of squealing involuntarily and thus alerted the OH to the catastrophe, hastily swabbed carpet, assured OH (still downstairs) that no bones were broken and no further intervention was required and got on with it...

I love these even though Coral is too orange for my taste. But it does speak to the Aqua (a genuine aqua IMO) and so I will graciously accept it.

In shade.

Bottles. You can see how clear the Coral and Red are. The Pink appears essentially creme which it emphatically is not. The Emerald is far left and the other dark one is the Violet (my fave so far).

They are so GLOSSY. I smooch them.

Btw I hate real jelly (I hesitate to say edible food-item as it is neither palatable nor of any value to the human body). Does anyone like it?

That's the QUESTION OF THE DAY.
What about jelly? (Not jam.)
What ABOUT jelly?

Fave flavour? Fave combinations? Do you loathe it? Best jelly mould?
