KB Shimmer Plum Tuckered Out & Every Nook And Cranberry

Last year I got quite a few of the KB Shimmer Holiday Collection. This year I limited myself to just two (mainly because all the others were out of stock!):

KB Shimmer Plum Tuckered Out

Plum Tuckered Out is a deep red based purple with duochrome shimmer flecks that shift from blue-purple-pink. I applied two medium coats for full coverage and 1 coat of INM Out the Door for a bit of gloss/,

KB Shimmer Every Nook and Cranberry

Every Nook and Cranberry is a pink leaning red, loaded with glass fleck shimmer, with a matte finish. It's gorgeous and covers nicely in two thin coats. It' ok with top coat but I prefer it matte, myself.

KB Shimmer Watercolor

Good Evening,

I had a family wedding this weekend and I'm pretty tired now. My cousin married her boyfriend of 10 years! She looked absolutely beautiful and so did the bridesmaids! The venue was gorgeous too, right by the beach.
The wine flowed so I was very hungover the next day!!!

The dogs spent Friday through Sunday at the All Seasons Pet Resort in Drury (their home away from home!) and when I picked them up this morning they were very smoochy! They get so much exercise at the kennels that Buster usually sleeps A LOT for the first few days at home, but this afternoon he just had a wee nap with me and was rearing to go again!!! I actually passed him over the fence to the girls next door for a bit of fun just before bedtime - he always barks when they play in their backyard, so that solved the noise issue for me and mum! When they brought him home he was nice and muddy, so we had to endure a quick bath before bed.:p

On to the polish!

KB Shimmer Watercolor

Watercolor has a sky blue crelly base with pink, purple, blue and white hex glitters. It definitely has a watercolour feel to it that brings me back to my childhood! We had those palettes of hard paints that you just brushed a wet paintbrush over and went to town on our colouring books. Worst paint pigmentation ever, but I love watercolours to this day! Application was a dream, 2 flowing coats gave great coverage and I only needed 1 layer of SV to make it smooth and glassy!!!

Watercolor is part of the KB Shimmer permanent collection. I bought mine from Harlow & Co, but if you live in the US you can order straight from KB Shimmer's website.

Hope you all had great weekends too. I'm counting down till the start of my Vet Nursing course! Just 1 more month!!!

KBShimmer Winter Collection Swatches - my picks

L-R: Hex Appeal, Berry Christmas, All Decked Out, Cocoa Nut, Sugar Plum Faerie

KBShimmer's Winter 2012/13 Collection is possibly their best yet! I picked up my five favourites after Christmas (when they were back in stock finally!!).

All Decked Out

All Decked Out has a swampy, dark green jelly base with various sizes gold, blue, red, green, orange and purple hex glitter and little gold stars. It's not really hard to get the stars out but they fall off the end of my brush back into the bottle if I'm not careful. I  love this shade of green, but not for this polish. I just feel like it'd be a better Christmas polish if it was more evergreen, a bit brighter, you know? Very cool though. Two-three coats.

Berry Christmas

Berry Christmas has a warm red base with tons of red, pink and purple hex glitter and gold micro-glitter. Probably my favourite from the collection but it dries textured and looks kind of lumpy unless you add some thick layers of top coat. I'm not wearing quite enough in the photos. Two coats.

Cocoa Nut

Cocoa Nut is a warm nutty chocolate brown with gold, pink and lavender holo glitters. Another two coater that does well with a couple of thick layers of top coat. Yum!

Hex Appeal

Hex Appeal is a navy jelly with silver, blue, fuchsia and purple glitters. It's a real glitter bomb with bar, hex and fine square shaped glitters. The formula is beautiful for such a glitter paced beauty. Two coats.

Sugar Plum Faerie

Sugar Plum Faerie is another beauty! A warm medium/light purple with green, lavender, pink and blue glitters. Again a great formula for a glitter packed lacquer. Two coats.

You can buy direct from KB Shimmer's website or Etsy shop if you are in the USA. Internationals can purchase KB Shimmer nail polish from Harlow & Co.

Did you get your hands on any?

KB Shimmer Lilac Dreams

When I did my swap with Sparkly she sweetly included a KB Shimmer Lilac Dreams because she knew how much I wanted it!

Lilac Dreams is a complex purple glitter. It's mainly super fine mauve purple that has a sort of duochrome shift to pink. Then there's dark purple glitter and holographic blue looking glitter. The coverage is great in 2 easy to apply coats and you will need a thick and glossy top coat because it has a bit of a texture going on.

It's just so pretty, definitely dream like!

Kinda Halloween-y?

Hey everyone!

It's so weird writing a post once a week. Every time I think I have some time to sit down and blog, it feels very foreign!

Since I haven't done any Halloween type manis yet, here is the closest I have gotten, using a Dollish Polish Halloween release: We're Simply Meant To Be

I'm wearing a base of KB Shimmer Lilac Dreams - a microglitter/shimmer  pink/purple duochrome. Next I've got on 2 coats of  Dollish Polish  WSMTB - a clear base with purple, yellow, blue and wine glitters. I ended up sandwiching it with a coat of Verity Deep Violet - a dark purple jelly.

We're Simply Meant To Be  has fine light purple square glitter, micro blue and wine glitters, small blue hex and medium yellow/gold and wine hex glitters. Dolly always does a great job of mixing chunky and finer glitters together in a way that works great on the nail. Too many Indies just focus on the chunky glitters and end up looking un-co on the nail! I love the addition of the bright matte blue glitterts and the yellow/gold glitter seriously pops! Application is easy peasy, no placement required. Two coats gave very decent coverage as a top coat. Dry time was also great and the glitter is well suspended.

So not too Halloween-y, but pretty all the same, right?

WSMTB was limited edition but you can purchase other DPs HERE

I finish exams this Thursday, so I hope to be back to daily posts after that. Miss you all!

KB Shimmer Proud Peacock

When I posted a chunk of KB Shimmer polishes I forgot all about Proud Peacock!

So here he is a little late - looking fab for Spring!

Proud Peacock  is a blue/jade jelly base with white, black, blue, holo and fuschia bar and hex glitter. It is pretty thick, but the glitter is really well suspended, so much so that I didn't actually need to shake up the bottle.  It dries fairly bumpy so I used 2 coats of Glitter Gloss to smooth it out.

You can get your hands on KB Shimmer via their website (US only) or Harlow & Co.

PP isn't my favourite lacquer, but it is fun and the mix of colours make me think of Summer at the beach!

KB Shimmer Elle

It's Sunday yet again, but I'm kind of happy to be going back to work tomorrow. Strange, I know, but I'm enjoying my job :)

Elle is from the KB Shimmer Circus Collection and sadly, she has been discontinued :(

Elle (short for elephant) is a sheer grey jelly with different sized pink, white and silver holo hex and square glitter. This is one of the polishes I lost the original swatches of on my SD card. The first time I wore it alone, and needed 3 coats and still had VNL which looked a bit gross because grey just makes my nails look more yellowed!  For the reswatch I chose to layer 2 coats of Elle over Pelican Gray (a light grey with subtle shimmer). I loved the way it looked layered! The glitter is well suspended in the jelly base and application is easy peasy! I only had to fiddle with the position of a couple of the glitters because they were sticking out from my free edge. I topped Elle off with 1 layer of Glitter Gloss for the photos, but an extra layer of top coat would have been optimal.

That brings an end to my KBs! And I'm putting myself on a no buy for as long as possible so chances are there won't be any more for a looooooooooonnnggggggg time :(

Best wishes for the week ahead,

Pink Wednesday: KB Shimmer Cheerleader

Ahoy-hoy ladies,

I feel the need, the need to post a Pink Wednesday. Even though I'm an hour in to Thursday.

Has anyone else noticed that I've featured an awful lot of pink polishes lately? I must be going through a girly phase!! My 'ugly' coloured lacquers haven't appealed to me at all :(

On with the PINK

Cheerleader is part of the Clique Collection. It's a mix of white, blue, purple and pink matte hex glitter in a pink (bordering on fuchsia) jelly base. It's certainly girlish.

While I'm not crazy about Cheerleader, it has a great formula. The glitter is well suspended (I did not even have to shake the bottle) in the thick base and it applies like a dream; reaching full coverage in 2 coats.
I needed 2 layers of top coat for optimal smoothness and shine. For these photos I used 1 cost of Aqua Daisy Glitter Gloss.

What clique were you a part of in high school? Did you have 'cliques' or were there simply 'cooler' and 'nerdier' groups of friends like at my school?

KB Shimmer Showgirl

Thanks to everyone for their sympathies and suggestions re: wiping my SD card of swatches!

Today I have the BEAUTIFUL & SASSY KB Shimmer Showgirl!

KB Shimmer Showgirl

Showgirl is a black jelly with fuchsia and silver holo glitter. It looked great in 2 coats and you could try layering it over black in order to preserve this pretty.
The formula is relatively thick but applies nicely. I had no issues getting the larger square glitter on to my nails, so that equals a win for me!

Do you have any KB Shimmer lacquers?

I purchased mine through Harlow & Co. But if you live in the US you can buy direct from KB Shimmer.

Their new collection is set to be released September 1st!
