Vouliagmani from above. Η Βουλιαγμένη από ψηλά..!

It was a beautiful day and good for some exercise, so i decided to take a walk on nearby hill. Above the suburb of Vouliagmani, south of Athens. The name Vouliagmeni, in Greek, means "sunken" . Long time ago, the top of a large cave, at the slopes near the sea, collapsed, and a  lake was formed with fresh water from thermal springs. The lake is used all the time, summer and winter by people suffering from arthritis and other diseases of the skeleton. They say it is good. The whole are is beautiful and it must be one of the most expensive residential areas in Greece. I had the chance, once again, to admire the view from above.

Ήταν όμορφη μέρα χθές και είπα να κάνω μια βόλτα πάνω από την Βουλιαγμένη, να ξεμουδιάσω και λίγο. Η θέα από ψηλά, ΄ήταν όπως πάντα υπέροχη και με αποζημίωσε με το παραπάνω.

The large organised public beach at Vouliagmeni, which is crowded during summer, looks deserted and abandoned at this period. Only a few sunbathers can been seen.

It is late October and the good weather is still holding here, with the temperatures going up to 25 degrees Celsius during the day. Some of us take advantage of the weather and are still going swimming, some others are not so brave to jump in the water, where the temperature is around 22 C. These photographs were taken a few days ago, at Vouliagmeni, near Athens.

Ο ασυνήθιστα καλός καιρός, για τέλος του Οκτώβρη, με τις θερμοκρασίες να φτάνουν την ημέρα τους 25 βαθμούς, εξακολουθεί να τραβά μερικούς από μας ακόμη στην θάλασσα. Τα νερά έχουν θερμοκρασία ακόμη γύρω στος 22 βαθμούς. Μερικοί δεν είναι τόσο γενναίοι και απολαμβάνουν την θέα. Πάντως ο κόσμος έχει αραιώσει πολύ.

A beautiful town on the coast south of Athens. Probably the most expensive residential area in Greece.

Η όμορφη Βουλιαγμένη, μάλλον η πιο ακριβή περιοχή στην Ελλάδα.

Millions of years ago, there was a cave with thermal springs in it, on the hills near the sea. Sometime, due to erosion, the roof of the cave collapsed and formed this small and unique lake. The area and the town is called "Vouliagmeni" in Greek, meaning "sunken". The waters of the lake with constant temperatures from 21 to 27 degrees Celsius, all year round, contain minerals and salts, are ideal for healing purposes for dermatological problems, arthritis and rheumatism, gynecological and many other problems. There are spa facilities and many people are using it for healing purposes all year round. The whole area is of exceptional natural beauty and it must be the most expensive housing area in Greece. And it is only approximately 20 kilometers from Athens center.

A few days ago, I decided to take a walk on the hills above and around the lake and had the chance to take the photographs you see here.

Η λίμνη της Βουλιαγμένης σχηματίστηκε όταν ένα παλιό σπήλαιο κοντά στην θάλασσα, κατέρρευσε και βυθίστηκε εκατομύρια χρόνια πριν. Τα νερά της λίμνης είναι ιαματικά και χρησιμοποιούνται για την ανακούφιση πολλών παθήσεων.
Πριν λίγες μέρες έκανα μια βόλτα στους λόφους πάνω από την λίμνη και είχα την ευκαιρία να τραβήξω μερικές φωτογραφίες.
