Every time I am in Crete, i try to find an excuse to walk around the old Venetian port of Chania.  It is the area I was living and growing up, many years ago, when I was going to school. I can still remember every corner, and every narrow side street, where i liked to play with my friends. Things were simpler for us those years. And the images have changed a little. Now there are so many cafes, restaurants and tavernas around the port and the side streets are filled with tourists visiting the shops which are attracting them. It is a port, busy with people walking around it at all times of day and night.

Κάθε φορά που βρίσκομαι στην Κρήτη, προσπαθώ να βρω μιαν αφορμή για να κάνω μια βόλτα στο παλιό λιμάνι των Χανίων, έστω για έναν καφέ. Είναι για μένα ένα μέρος γεμάτο αναμνήσεις, επειδή εκεί γύρω μεγάλωνα και έπαιζα στα στενά που ξεκινούν απ' αυτό, πριν πολλά χρόνια,, όταν πήγαινα στο Γυμνάσιο. Τα πράγματα ήταν πιο απλά για μας εκείνα τα χρόνια. Δεν χρειαζόμαστε και πολλά. Τώρα μπορεί ακόμη ν' αναγνωρίζω κάθε γωνιά και κάθε στενάκι, αλλά τώρα πια το λιμάνι είναι γεμάτο από μαγαζιά και ταβέρνες και τα στενά βιτρίνες για να τραβούν τους τουρίστες. Μέρα και νύχτα το λιμάνι σφύζει από ζωή.

It is beautiful. And walking around the old Venetian port of Chania, at any time of the day or night or sitting there to enjoy your coffee or drink, is always rewarding.

Είναι όμορφα. Και μια βόλτα οποιαδήποτε ώρα της ημέρας ή της νύχτας, στο παλιό λιμάνι ή ένας καφές εκεί, πάντα σε ξεκουράζει.

The streets around the old Venetian port of Chania are full of people, flowers and life. You can see the old and the modern mixed together as the locals mix with tourists. Some balconies are so colorful with the flowers hanging from them, and there are some trees with their colorful branches like arms extended to the skies.

Δρόμοι γεμάτοι κόσμο, δρόμοι γεμάτοι αρώματα δρόμοι γεμάτοι λουλούδια και χρώματα όλο το χρόνο. Δρόμοι που το παλιό σμίγει αρμονικά με το μοντέρνο. Δρόμοι που σε οδηγούν στο παλιό λιμάνι των Χανίων.

The old port of Chania is like a magic place at night but it has also its beauty during daytime. No matter what time of the year or of the day is, there are always people walking around, as it is one of the favorite places for the locals and the tourists.

Το παλιό λιμάνι των Χανίων δεν φαντάζει μαγικό μόνο την νύχτα. Και την ημέρα διατηρεί την όμορφια του. Δεν έχει σημασία τι ώρα της ημέρας είναι ή ποια εποχή του χρόνου. Είναι πάντα γεμάτο κόσμο, καθώς είναι ο αγαπημένος τόπος περιπάτου ντόπιων και ξένων.
