Mrs collared dove was in a hurry to build her nest and lay her eggs this season. The good weather a few days ago deceived her. And now she is looking at her nest sad. Not much of a nest either. Just a few small sticks thrown on the branch outside my window. I think she had already laid an egg when the nest was raided by the magpies patrolling the back garden.

Η δεκοχτούρα βιάστηκε να φτιάξη την φωλιά και ν' αρχίσει να κάνει οικογένεια φέτος. Την ξεγέλασε ο καλός καιρός των περασμένων ημερών. Και τώρα κοιτά την φωλιά της περίλυπη, όπως την χτυπά η κακοκαιρία. Όχι πως ήταν και καμμιά φωλιά της προκοπής. Κάτι κλαδάκια πεταμένα όπως όπως πάνω στο μεγαλύτερο κλαδί ακριβώς έξω από το παράθυρό μου. Νομίζω πως πρέπει νάχε κάνει και κανένα αυγό, όταν έγινε επιδρομή στην φωλιά από τις καρακάξες που περιπολούν στην περιοχή.

Growing Older. Μεγαλώνοντας.

The two chicks of the collared dove nesting in front of my balcony, are growing older and bigger and new feathers are appearing every day.
Τα δυό μικρά της δεκοχτούρας που φωλιάζει μπροστά στο μπαλκόνι μου, μεγαλώνουν μέρα με τη μέρα. Καινούρια φτερά εμφανίζονται.

A break on  my series on Crete, to give you an update on the collared dove, nesting close to my balcony. I was seeing her on the nest for some time, two months ago. Then, suddenly, she left the nest without any eggs in it, and a couple of weeks ago, I started seeing her again in the nest. Yesterday afternoon I had my first chance to have a look at the nest while she was away for a very short time. Look at what I saw.
Ένα διάλειμα στην σειρά των αναρτήσεών μου απο την Κρήτη, να σας δώσω νεώτερα από την δεκοχτούρα που φωλιάζει μπροστά στο μπαλκόνι μου. Την είχα χάσει για αρκετό καιρό και πρίν από συό βδομάδες άρχισα να την βλέπω ξανά στην φωλιά. Χθές το απόγευμα είχα την ευκαιρία να ρίξω μια ματιά στην φωλιά, την ώρα που την είχε αφίσει για λίγο.. Δέστε τι είδα.

Mother does not stay away from the nest for long, as the hawks are still in the neighborhood, and they have six hungry mouths to feed.

Η μητέρα δεν λείπει απο την φωλιά για πολύ, επειδή τα γεράκια κυκλοφορούν συνέχεια στην γειτονιά και έχουνε έξι πεινασμένα στόματα να θρέψουν.
