Oh yes, yes they are. Seriously, I mean it.

At Mr M's

Even though we do live together (and happily!), each of us has a blog and they are both really, really different. Nonetheless, today my work on Mary Sibande (pictured) is lovingly chilling at Mr M's.

PS: This might ring a bell, as it's been published in Hand/Eye too! And if you want to read the proper art theorist, long and hard version, you can pop in here.

Franz Xaver Messerschmidt

Once again Mr M points me out to fabulous sutff.
Read about Franz Xaver Messerschmidt here.

E. V. Day

Loads of work, very expressive, very coherent (although in a rather terrible site).

To be continued

Oh well, oh well.
I was just getting the taste of blogging again after the internet move, and now the summer family-visiting responsibilites will make it hard again!
Mr. M and me are going to see his family in his village (I told you about it here).
Be good.

I leave you with the extraordinary work of Debra Baxter, who I already posted in the A to Z of makers, but her work is so fascinating that I'd like to show you guys too. The materiality, the subtlety and the humour of her pieces are unique.

PS: If you love it, she's got a jewellery shop!

New project updated in my portfolio!

Aunt Peggy has departed

there is always space for ghostly, femenine, magical installations in this blog.
The materiality of memory is always a thrilling and personal topic to explore for an artist or a designer.
Please take your time to look around the other projects too.

Goodbye, Louise Bourgeois

"I've been to hell and back, and let me tell you, it was wonderful"

Possibly the grandest artist that has ever existed.
May her soul continue to inspire us forever.

I had never cried for a dead artist before.

Fascinating work inspired by cells, like a microscopical view of a feeling.

Amandine Pierne

Last Friday I went to Swab and one I found out about Amadine's work. I was in awe. Her ideas are simple, based on daily objects, but she reconstructs them in a new way.

Imges: marker-painted kitchen roll, puzzle hoops, classified conffetti, beaded sleeping bag.

Helmut Smits

I can't remember where I found his work but he is awesome!

(If you do know, please post a message so I can credit this!)
He's planted a tree in front of a billboard, and he color-mixes with colorful beverages. He has also organized "white cars only" parkings and filtered coke until water comes out. And placed logos in natural landscapes.

Ghostly art

Somehow, very intimate.

Ron Mueck at work

I loved this pic.

I love Mr Mueck's work, too.
One day I'll catch an exhibition wherever I'll be living :)

The other Nick Cave

It's funny when two artists are called the same.
The other day I heard in the radio that Laura Esquivel would be singing and dancing in "The Ugly Duckling - on ice" show. I thought, What, the writer?!; but no, it's an 15 year old actress that just happens to have the same name.
When I heard that Nick Cave had a textile show at the UCLA Fowler Museum, I thought "This man has no limits". But, again, it's a name coincidence. And the stuff is extremely interesting (from what I can see online!). These pieces are "sound suits" and are wearable. You can also watch an hour long lecture by the artist here.

Nick van Woert

As you know, I've been collecting artists that catch my eye at the A to Z of makers (or the blogger version). But the format I use there (one pic, one name; nothing else), may not do justice to how much I like Nick van Woert's work. It's full of a sense of humour that, actually, can be revisited and re-read. I added him to my Cargo favourites, and I am automatically updated on his new stuff. He kind of blows my mind a bit. So there.

Man, I feel like a woman...

She is finished. I had never worked so intensively on something in my life. My admiration to all women who have spent their lives working with needles.

See more of the project here.

House on Fire

Now, now, now, I've been blah-in about "when I lived in Swaziland" this and that but I'm extremely proud to say that the best club ever (and gallery) has a brand new website!

I just couldn't describe the lively, magic sculptures you can find there, but finally! They are online :)
This is House on Fire.
