Birthdays are like purses . . .

Hi, and happy Saturday! I have a lot of March birthdays to make cards for and squeezed in this little ditty yesterday afternoon. (Taking the time to make it was a little treat to myself after surviving a busy, busy week. Some days you've just GOT to take a little time for yourself for the sake of sanity, right?)

I was inspired to make this girly card by the current challenge over at Just Punch It: Make It Girly. I made that cute little purse with the Stampin' Up! round tab punch and two of the SU oval punches (to make the handle). The purse flap is just a snippet of patterned paper trimmed from the end of a scalloped-oval punch (again, from SU). These punches came together to create a rather stylish little handbag, don't you think?? I searched through some of my old stamp sets and came up with one from Skipping Stones with a bunch of purse-related sentiments. So, you saw the first part of the sentiment ("Birthdays are like purses"), and here's the wink-wink punchline inside:

Tee--hee!!

And since I've used washi tape on my project, I'm linking this up to the current Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge: It's a Wash, to use washi tape. I love my washi!

Thanks for dropping in for a little slice of bliss today! Have a great weekend,
Emily

Friends Warm the Heart

It has been soooooooooo long since I've created anything with my Flourishes stamps. I love them so and have always enjoyed playing along with the Flourishes challenges, but life got to be too, too busy recently to do it all. I spotted the most recent Timeless Tuesday challenge, all about shaped cards, last week. I tucked it away in the back of my mind for a while and finally took a little time today to make a little something for it.

This is a very simple card, but it was lovely to be creative, even if for just a little while.

I used two nested heart-shaped cookie cutters as the pattern for my heart-shaped card and the nested white heart-shaped panel (and then cut them both out by hand). The image comes from the Flourishes set Joy is in the Air, and the sentiment is from the Flourishes set Warm Winter Wishes (which appears to now be retired?). I colored the image with my Copics and added a sweet little felt heart sticker that I picked up in a 10-pack at Target's One Spot last week. It will be perfect to send to a friend for Valentine's Day.

The kids will be home from school soon, so I've got to get this posted before I get completely distracted {in a good way, of course! ;) }.

Hope you've had a great start to this new week! Thanks for dropping by,
Emily

DeNami Design Happy Monsters Sneak Peeks

Welcome to Day 3 of the DeNami Design Spring/Summer 2014 Release Sneak Peeks!! Today DeNami DT Member Tammy Hobbs and I are giving you sneak peeks of brand-new DeNami stamps about to be released on January 10!! Today's sneak peeks are in a brand-new category of DeNami stamps: it's the HAPPY MONSTERS! Be sure to read all the way to the end of this post for details on a great giveaway :D.

These little monsters definitely aren't the spooky kind {wink}. Let's see what kinds of projects you can make with them:

1) My first project is a Father's Day card! I used two cute little happy monsters from two new stamps, E173 Happy Monster w/Balloons and N146 Happy Monster Party. I stamped and fussy cut a large monster from the Happy Monster Party (leaving off his party hat). I also fussy cut the smaller monster, leaving off his party hat and balloon so the daddy monster and kid monster could hold hands! I also used the DeNami Happy Father's Day sentiment, Tuxedo Black Memento ink, Teal Chevron Washi Tape, and one of the new Chevron Embossing folders carried in the DeNami store.

2) My second project is a perfect card for saying hello to a far-off friend! It features the new I69 Happy Monsters in Car stamp, as well as the new E175 Balloon Trio. My card design was perfect for pairing up with the Sending You Smiles sentiment. And doesn't the Cloudy Sky embossing folder make a great background for my road-trip scene?

3) And finally, for my third project, I turned the new N146 Happy Monster Party stamp into a Valentine's Day card! I also used the brand-new F240 You Make Me Feel sentiment and some hearts from the Whimsical Valentine stamp set. Isn't it perfect? And so is the Layered Hearts embossing folder that I used as my on-theme background.

Are you still with me? I mentioned a giveaway way back at the beginning of this post. DeNami is giving away multiple gift certificates today, so be sure to leave a comment here on my post and then check out the DeNami blog for all of the different ways you can win today. :)

I'm so glad that you dropped in to check out some of the new Happy Monster stamps in the DeNami Design Spring/Summer Release! Be sure to tune into the DeNami blog tomorrow for giveaway winners and release full reveal.

Until then, have a day filled with bliss,
Emily

Let's Get Together

Wouldn't that be great? To get together for a cup of coffee (or tea for me!) so we could visit and relax now that the hustle-bustle of the holidays is over? Now don't get me wrong, my family and I had a WONDERFUL Christmas together. But it's been a busy, busy, busy couple of months, and I'm enjoying some time just relaxing now! And I'd like nothing better right now than to get together with a friend or two or three to just chat :).

I'm working on writing my thank you notes today. (Yesterday was spent making them up.) And I suddenly remembered that I'd wanted to play along with my friend Pam's Just Punch It challenge. Her Free For All challenge ends tomorrow. So, just because I could, I set things aside to play with paper just for fun to make this card. It was totally therapeutic!!

I used two awesome DeNami Design stamps to make this card: a face from the Friendly Faces stamp set and a sentiment from the Let's Get Together stamp set. I also used some clear rhinestones from the DeNami Store and a brand-new 5" x 7" argyle embossing folder that my son gave me for Christmas! He sure knows what his mom likes ;).

I also used a whole boat-load of punches to create my sweet punch lady for Pam's challenge! I used SU's round tab punch for her body (and belt), SU's word window punch for her arms and legs, SU's small oval punch for her face, SU's small heart punch for her bun, and several EK Success small punches (scalloped circle for her hair and bangs, plus stiletto and handbag) for her accessories. I just came up with this punch lady design on my own while looking at all of my punches! thanks for a super fun challenge, Pam. :)

OK, now that I've had my fun, it's time to get back to work on writing my thank you notes.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

My Sweet Friend + a WINNER!

Hello and Happy Friday to you! I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas with your families. We certainly did, and now we're having a lovely time just being home together. That's the best!

I have a little DeNami project to share with you today. This was part of one of the last gifts I put together this year. It was for a dear friend of mine whom I was thrilled to see for a while on Christmas Eve.

Now, here's the story:  my husband and I both grew up in Ohio, the Buckeye State. We both remember our families making these partially chocolate-dipped peanut butter candies at Christmas time when we were growing up. They are called Buckeyes for their resemblance to the nut of the Ohio Buckeye tree (the state tree of Ohio, of course!). Here's a photo for comparison:

Can you kind of see the resemblance?

Anyway, a few years ago my friend discovered a boxed candy mix from Betty Crocker for Peanut Butter BonBons. She bought the mix to make up for a party we were both attending, and the entire platter disappeared within 10 minutes!! When I gave one to my husband to try, he remarked about how similar the Betty Crocker BonBons were to the Buckeyes we ate as kids.

I made up a big batch of Buckeyes this year as a surprise treat for my family on Christmas Day, and as I was packing them up to keep them out of sight, I remembered how much my friend had liked the BC BonBons. So I whipped up a special little box to package a quartet of Buckeyes to include in her present. I really hope she was surprised and pleased (and "got" the connection!!)

I decorated a DeNami 3x3 Boutique Box using Staz-On inks (Jet Black and Cotton White) to stamp on a Leafy Vine Wreath and an Arched Sweet Friend sentiment. I glued on a few red sequins to decorate my wreath and sealed up the box with some White/Red Dots washi tape. So quick and cute!

And now it's time to announce the winner of my washi tape giveaway! I used Random.org to select a winner. It was lucky number 18, which was

 Sue D

Congratulations, Sue! I've emailed you.

Well, thanks so much for dropping by today. Enjoy your last weekend of 2013!!

Hope your day is filled with bliss,
Emily

Ways With Washi: WREATHS + a Giveaway!

Greetings, DeNami friends! It's time for my December edition of Ways With Washi over on the DeNami Design blog!  Today I thought I'd show you a couple of ways that you can use washi tape to build your very own DIY wreath embellishments. Let's take a look!

For my first project, I used two green DeNami washi tapes to build a wreath. I started by punching out two nesting circles from white card stock. Then I used scissors to trim fringe along one side of a long strip of Green Graph Washi Tape and adhered it around the perimeter of the larger circle with the fringe pointing outward. I gave the same fringe treatment to a long piece of Green Stripes Washi Tape and adhered it around the smaller circle. After stacking the smaller fringed circle on top of the larger circle, I filled the center of my wreath with a tiny sentiment from the Christmas Greetings Petit Four stamp set.  At this point, I simply added a few red sequins and a loopy bow tied from baker's twine, and my wreath embellishment was done!

Other supplies from the DeNami Design store: Polka Dot Background, Satin Red Versafine Ink

I love pairing pink with green as a nontraditional color scheme for Christmas! Next up is a larger wreath created with my favorite Christmas color combo. For this wreath, I adhered strips of Pink Stripes Washi Tape and Green Graph Washi Tape around a cardstock ring created with punches. Once all of the tape was securely fastened in place, I used my trusty scissors to trim swallowtail notches in the end of each little banner. Sweet, don't you think?

Other supplies from the DeNami Design store: Rich Cocoa Memento Ink, Arched Sweet Friend, Sugar Cookies Stamp set

And that brings this Ways With Washi to a close! It's so hard to believe that this is my last DeNami monthly feature for 2013. It's also my last Ways With Washi feature. I've nearly exhausted my list of interesting ways to use washi tape in papercrafting projects! But never fear, I'll be back with a brand-new monthly feature here on the DeNami blog in 2014!

In the meantime, I'd like to offer you the chance to win a roll of washi tape to play with!

Owl Always Be Your Friend

Good morning! It's my turn to share a fun DeNami project with readers over on the DeNami blog today, and I couldn't resist giving you all a peek of it here ;).

I love to experiment with all sorts of design styles using my DeNami stamps. Recently I tried a little something new--I took a stab at pairing up themes and motifs in fun patterned papers with images and sentiments in my collection of DeNami stamps. This was the result:

I love how this owl gift set turned out! It includes a notebook with attached decorated pencil, a decorative clothespin magnet, and a customized Post-It notepad. I think that DeNami's Owls stamp set perfectly complements the owl motifs in the Birds of a Feather digital paper collection I used! I customized the Post-It pad with a different DeNami owl and the Owl Always Be Your Friend stamp on every page and wrapped it up for gift-giving with aquamarine baker's twine from DeNami's Summer Twine 3-pack. I took the owl puns one step further on my notebook with DeNami's You're A Hoot and Square Word Bubble stamps. And there you have it: a gift set that was as much fun (if not more!) to make as it will be for my recipient to receive! So perfect for autumn. :)

There is just so much to be inspired by here, right? I picked up on the peacock feather, the colors, and those little beads of white frosting on the cake (yum!) to create this:

And I couldn't have made it without these items from the DeNami Design store:

Friendly Robot

Friendly robot? Why, yes, indeed!!! Isn't this little character just the sweetest? Today the DeNami Design team is featuring this fun little stamp:

I think his smile is just adorable, so I paired him with the "Smile" sentiment from DeNami's Heartfelt Greetings stamp set to make this card:

See the polka-dotted corner embellishments? Those are SO easy to create with strips of Lime/White Dots washi tape--just wrap the ends around the edges!

Looking for some more ideas for this sweet robot stamp? Be sure to check out the rest of the team's lovely creations today on the DeNami blog. Like what you see? Then you can score a great deal on the Friendly Robot--as our Spotlight Product, it's on sale at 10% off for the next week!!

Ways With Washi: FRAMES + a Giveaway!

Hello there, DeNami Friends! Today I'm popping in with my August edition of Ways With Washi, a feature I developed for the DeNami Design blog. Today we are going to take a look at ways to use washi tape to add decorative frames to your cards and papercrafted projects. I don't know about you, but I'm not ready to give up summer quite yet! So I thought we could hold on to those halcyon days a little bit longer by featuring some of the newest DeNami stamps that I think capture summer perfectly. All three of these adorable chickie stamps have a camping theme, one of my family's favorite summer activities! I couldn't have been more thrilled when these camping stamps were included in last month's new release.

So, let's get to it! Starting off my washi-frame parade today is this card featuring a super-simple frame made with Purple/White Dots washi tape. I simply matted my focal-image panel on a second piece of cardstock and then adhered strips of washi tape along the edges of the central panel, wrapping the washi tape edges around to the back of the mat. Quick and easy!

DeNami supplies: Road Washi Tape, RV Chickies, White Boutique Buttons, and

Next, I made a frame that somehow reminds me of something more rustic, like a twig frame. Red Stripes washi tape was perfect for this project--I used the stripes as cutting guides to create more slender strips of washi tape. Plus, I love the long, lean framing effect that the stripes add to the design!

DeNami supplies: Chickie in Tent, Peacock Feathers Set, Small Cloud, Small Solid Circle, and Hello Friend

For my last project for today, I wanted to show you a really fun patchwork style of washi-tape frame! I trimmed a panel of white cardstock just a bit smaller than my card base and then adhered short strips of three different washi tapes (Pink/White Dots, Yellow/White Dots, and Orange Stripes) all around the edges. There's no need to line up the washi-tape strips; I simply wrapped one edge of each piece around to the back of the panel and varied how much was wrapped behind with each piece.

DeNami supplies:  Campfire Chickies and Let's Get Together stamp set

I hope you enjoyed this little camping adventure while we explored a few ways to make frames with washi tape!

GIVEAWAY

How would you like to win a roll of washi tape to try making some washi frames for yourself? I have a brand-new roll of Brown/White Dots Washi Tape from DeNami Design that I'd love to give away to a reader of this post. Want to be in the running? Just leave me a comment on this post using the word "VACATION." There's no need to be a follower of my blog to enter, but if you are a follower (or become a new follower!), you can have a second entry in the drawing--just leave me a second comment telling me that you are a follower and how you follow. :)

Hello, friends! Today I'm bringing you another Pinspired post along with a few of my other DeNami Design teammates. This month we were inspired by this photo:

I was inspired by all those Popsicle sticks and immediately reached for the DeNami Popsicle stamp! I was also careful to pick up all those bright summer colors, too.

I used a variety of DeNami cardstocks (red, golden tangerine, desert orange, and white), Tuxedo Black Memento ink, and the "you're sweet" sentiment from DeNami's Love Sentiments stamp set.

Greetings, friends! Today I'm bringing you another Pinspired post along with a few of my other DeNami Design teammates. This month we were inspired by this photo:

I picked up on the fruits in this photo and immediately reached for my DeNami Tropical Fruit petit four stamp set. That sweet little stamp set has been getting quite a workout from me lately!

I also used the "you're sweet" sentiment from the Love Sentiments petit four stamp set. I rounded out my project with some Lime Versacolor ink, Tuxedo Black Memento ink, and some pretty DeNami patterned paper from the Watermelon Sampler paper pack.

Strawberry Magnets for a Sweet Friend

I'm popping in with a quick post to share a project that's being featured over on the DeNami blog today.

I made this set of strawberry magnets as a gift for a very dear friend of mine. When I was growing up in Ohio, June was the month of pick-your-own strawberries, so this little gift is perfect for this time of year in my mind!

I used the little strawberry stamp from DeNami's Tropical Fruit stamp set and the Arched Sweet Friend stamp. The patterned paper is a digital print from the Sweet Strawberry collection by Shery K Designs. I adhered a circle of the printed patterned paper to the metal lid of a depleted Yankee Candle. It's perfect for attaching, presenting, and gifting magnets!

Have a fabulous day today, friends!

Growing In Unity~Day 4

Thanks for coming back for Day 4 of my week as Growing in Unity gal!

Today is a two-fer day! I've got two little Unity projects that I've been just itching to share with you. Let's get started!

The sentiment is from Unity's {my thoughts are with you} kit. Definitely a must-have! It is loaded with a great variety of "thinking of you" types of sentiments that are perfect for cardmakers. I love how this one in particular fits perfectly in my Stampin' Up! modern label punch.

The patterned paper is a digital print from the Beautiful Moments collection by Carta Bella (available from JessicaSprague.com).  I built the gilt frame around the portion I printed out using some really cool gold washi tape. It totally looks like a fancy picture frame, right? I think the effect is awesome.

Now, switching gears a bit.

This card pulls together two different Unity Stamp kits. The doily stamped in the background in white on kraft and the fancy label are from the Generations kit, and the fantastic "You are fabulous" sentiment is from the Where You Should Be kit. Quick and easy and perfect for dropping in the mail to a fabulous friend!

And I think that does it for today!

Please leave a comment on this post to be in the running for two free Unity Itty Bitty kits, one comment per person please. But if you are a follower of my blog (or become a new follower), you can leave a second comment--for a second chance to win--on today's post:  just let me know that you are a follower and how you follow my blog!

Don't forget to come back tomorrow for my last GIU post. If you haven't already commented on my GIU Days 1, 2, and 3 posts, you should check out and comment on those as well to maximize your chances of winning in the random drawing. I will leave commenting open through 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sunday, June 9, 2013, and will come back on June 10 to announce the winner here on my blog. If I can find a way to contact the winner via email, I'll be sure to do that, too. :)

I'm so happy that you stopped by to visit today!

Growing In Unity~Day 1

Happy Monday morning to all of you! I am bursting with excitement today because this Monday morning kicks off my week as Growing In Unity gal for Unity Stamp Co. Yay!!

Not familiar with Growing In Unity? Well, it's simple. Each week Unity has lined up a different Unity stamp fan to share projects and inspiration all week long. At the end of the week, the GIU gal has the honor of randomly selecting one of the commenters from her week of projects to receive two free Unity Itty Bitty stamp kits of her choice. Is that awesome, or what? And with over 400 Itty Bitties to choose from, there is truly something for everyone.

So, let's get on with the show! I'm kicking off my GIU week with a kinda sassy birthday card.

Hilarious, right? I just LOVE that paper bag image. I think it is so very versatile (and just to prove it, I'll be using it again later this week). It's from the July 2012 Kit of the Month, Ol' Bag of Fun. Lots of fun accompanying sentiments to choose from, too. I've just got to think of exactly the right person to send this birthday card to, 'cause I'm not sure that everyone would appreciate it! ;)

The patterned paper is a digital paper from the Georgia Rose collection by Jodie Lee Designs, available from JessicaSprague.com. I love the vintage look of the paper to go along with the "vintage" bag!!

OK, to be in the running for two free Unity Itty Bitty kits, be sure to leave a comment on this post, one comment per person please. But if you are a follower of my blog (or become a new follower), you can leave a second comment--for a second chance to win--on today's post:  just let me know that you are a follower and how you follow my blog!

And then come back the rest of the week for more Unity inspiration and more chances to win in the random drawing! I will leave commenting open through 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sunday, June 9, 2013, and will come back on June 10 to announce the winner here on my blog. If I can find a way to contact the winner via email, I'll be sure to do that, too. :)

Thanks for dropping by My Little Slice of Bliss today and sharing a little happy with me! See you back right here tomorrow,
Emily

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

It's Cinco de Mayo! Yes, it's the fifth of May once again. I'm having a hard time believing that one-third of 2013 has already sped by. But I'm sure enjoying the warmer weather that May has brought with it!

If I'd thought of it in time, I would have planned for us to celebrate Cinco de Mayo today with some tortilla chips and salsa, along with some yummy bean and cheese enchiladas perhaps. If I'd put two and two together in advance. But I didn't. Instead I have a pork loin roast thawing in my refrigerator for tonight's supper and nary a Mexican meal ingredient in sight. We do love Mexican food here at my house, so we'll get in a festive Mexican supper sometime soon. It just won't be on Cinco de Mayo!

A few years ago I won the complete Fiesta paper collection by We R Memory Keepers as a comment-to-win prize somewhere here in blogland. The wonderful prize collection that I received included some fun, oversized chipboard stickers. I had a blast putting together some Mexican-themed goodies for this Cinco de Mayo card for a friend--I sent it out just to say "hi" and that I miss her!

Here's hoping that Cinco de Mayo is sunny in your neck of the woods! Thanks for stopping by for a little visit today. :D
