losing the reader
I'm sure every one has realized by now that google stopped their reader service at the beginning of the month. Haven't been online the last 3 weeks and not reading anything of course this fact just past me by. Now I found myself confronted with a little problem, what other service could do that for me and even worse How on earth would I be able to re-find all the blogs I had collected in my feed during the last years? The first problem was easily solved. Asking the inter-webs I came up with two out of the many solutions, one being bloglovin' the other feedly. The promise feedly would be able to find my google reader list was too promising. But as I was too late feedly didn't find the list automatically *sad-face*
Asking the inter-webs again .. google will provide this info in a list (that you need the download) until the 15th of July. So far so good. I got the list and opened it and added most of the blogs to feedly via hand. I was surprised how many blogs have stopped writing during the last years. And I was surprised how many food-blogs I had in my list. I miss some yarn blogs though *confused-face*
Soooo, point of this post? I love the feedly app (I never read blogs on my phone, now it's so easy) and what are your favorite knitting/crochet blogs? I want to add a few more to my reading list.
happy reading, Diana

late weekly flashback
I'm having vacation and totally lost track of days ö_Ö so I share my Sunday flashback on a Monday
|seen| the sea, yay, no, double-YAY
|heard| sea gull and swallow tweets, so relaxing!
|learned| I had an "Ah-moment" with my latest crochet project (which I will share later today)
|read| Divergent by Veronica Roth, I needed to start a new book as I just couldn't finish my last read (Alan Bradley's Flavia de Luce) I couldn't get used to the style it's written in at all
|done| packing and un-packing bags, singing while driving
|eaten| strawberries, strawberries, strawberries AND strawberies
|drunk| strawberry and banana smoothies
|thought| about curving crochet
|been pleased| with the beautiful weather during my little trip to the sea, rain during all week BUT the three days at the sea, thx universe
|got annoyed| nothing really ... oh I got a sun burn, so maybe my stupid self
|wished| what can you wish for with a view like the one above?
|bought| nothing, YAY... I had enough to unpack from my "illness-haul"
|clicked| twitter
does anyone else sing while driving?

Book Review ... sort of
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
I want to try to do a review for this book here. I have never done a thing like this before, especially since I don't want to give anything of the content, just in case you want to read it yourself. I told you about the book before in my weekly flashbacks and throughout the whole book I felt a little like "where is this going" ... very interesting feeling that I don't often have when reading. It was strong enough to keep me reading and weird enough to keep me thinking about it when I wasn't reading. The book tells a story about a boy and what he finds out about his life and family. The video below I found on youtube and I think it's the add to the book, I think it gives you an idea but will not give too much away about the story itself.
All in all I enjoyed reading this alot! And I loved how the book was "designed" as well, it contains a whole lot of pictures, even the electronic version did! That made this book a sweet piece of art as well. The only thing I didn't like is that it seems to be the first part of a series, which I don't find bad generally speaking, I just want to know such a thing when starting to read. It just alters the expectations I have in a book and its story.
Would I recommend this? I sure will! It's sooo different to what you normally find to read and soo interesting. Very well written. Very unexpected story line. So many new ideas. I have never read anything like this.
my kindle let's me bookmark things I liked, and these two sentences I liked alot:
"If all the suns but ours collapsed tonight, how many lifetimes would it take us to realize we were alone?"
---
"I used to dream about escaping my ordinary life, but my life was never ordinary. I had simply failed to notice how extraordinary it was."

fighting heat with lemons
The last days have been incredibly hot and what did I do? standing in the heat of the kitchen baking a cake: a lemon cake
this is a very typical yet easy german cake aka kuchen

original recipe
and in english for all my internatinal friends
350 g butter
350 g sugar
1 tbsp. vanilla sugar
6 medium sized eggs
350 g all pupose flour
3 tsp baking powder
zest of two lemons
for the frosting:
250 g icing sugar
as much lemon juice as you need to make it smooth, texture shoud be like honey
how to:
mix soft butter and sugar until well blended, add eggs one by one and also zest of lemons.
in another bowl mix flour and baking powder and then mix with butter/sugar to make a soft dough.
spread onto baking sheet and bake at 180°C for 20 to 30 mins
in the meantime: mix icing sugar and lemon juice, spread onto finished cake.
set aside to let cool, enjoy!
I also read like mad in the last 10 days. couldn't put away Trudi Canavans BLACK MAGICIAN TRILOGY. The story itself was not very surprising, I actually got a bit angry in the middle of the second book because of one magician totally changing its personality. But it's all very well written, I wanted to know what happened and read more than 1.500 pages in a few days (I don't remember anytime I have read that much). I'm still a bit sad at how the story ended and that it ended although I finished reading on friday afternoon so I think all in all it's been a very good read (and it came in very handy that I had all book of the trilogy at hand - what's worse than a story you need to wait for more than a year to know how it continues? I don't want to be reminded of my Harry Potter time here =^__^=)
Hope you enjoyed the weekend and will have a good start into the new week too!
