Tuesdays Are For Knitting

Some signs of spring!  Melting snow, a baby chick and an open door :-).

Pinot being outside is not a sign of spring because he's been going out all winter, but his muddy feet could be a clue :-).

I couldn't resist making my Emotional Support Chicken her own baby chick.  These are fun little projects and a great way to use up small amounts of leftover yarn.  Here's a link to the patterns.

Good Morning!

The sunlight this morning was beautiful!  Have the sunrises not been very stellar lately or am I just not seeing them for some reason?  I noticed a different light coming through the kitchen door this morning and  when I got out to the barn I was able to quickly snap this picture...and maybe felt a little glimmer of normal or old times or...I'm not sure what to call it.

Nothing is really going wrong here.  In fact, I almost feel like I'm further ahead then normal for this crazy time of the year.  Still, everything feels a bit heavy and sad.  Or is hitting harder than it should.  Or something.  Even Pinto looks like he's looking for something. I'm glad I have my sheep to get me up to the barn to catch the sunrise.

As requested via IG, here it is as a new puzzle.  It's a fun one :-).

Spring Has Sprung

Well, that (springtime in Kentucky) escalated quickly!  Like it always does.

Most people look forward to spring.  I'm more a of fall person, looking forward to the quiet of winter.  I haven't finished my Iknitarod vest yet, but I'm still working on it.  I stopped to knit a small sweater for a chilly new sheep friend (not at bottle lamb...sorry) who I'll introduce maybe tomorrow.  I have garden news to share.  An exciting new fiber tool.  Plans for the summer.

Just not enough hours in the day, even though the days are getting longer.

Sigh...

Stupid Springtime

Too much to do and not enough time to do it.

80 degrees one day and frost the next.  Luckily nothing seems to be too damaged except some asparagus.

Why do I get these ideas of new garden things I want to do each spring?  See sentence one...

This picture seemed to resonate this morning, so how about a new puzzle?

A Good Night

My favorite time of day tends to be evening.  I love stopping to watch the sheep and chickens head in for the night, all the birds looking for a spot to sleep and, unless you're a bat, the feeling of settling in for the night.  The bats aren't here yet, but I doubt they are far away.

The day is done.  A good day or not, there's comfort in knowing we've all made it through another one.  I think that's part of the attraction of fall.  Knowing I made it through another summer.  It's time to settle in for the winter.

While spring is not my favorite season, there are a few things I really do enjoy.  Hearing the spring peepers in the Frog Pond might be my favorite.

Enjoy!

No Mow May

The men's race Tour de France/Fleece is over, but now we are spinning for the women's race.  I'm using that as my "justification" for not having taken pictures of my yarn for a blog post yet.  I will do it.  In the meantime, one last gift from the camera card archives!

I'm not big on over mowing (even though it looks like it) and used the "No Mow May" campaign as my leverage to push Tim to not mow the back field this spring.  I thought it would mostly be used and enjoyed by all the animals, but I enjoyed it at least as much as they did.

I loved walking back there, especially in the evenings.  Everything looked soft and magical and it didn't even feel like the same farm.  We got a bunch of rain early in the spring and everything was green and lush and the trees surrounding the Frog Pond almost felt like a little woods (the one thing I really wish we had here).

I wish I'd done a better job taking more pictures, but I'm glad I got these if for no other reason than it tricked me into putting them into a blog post so I'll be able to jog my memory for the rest of my life.
I love tulip poplar flowers and I'm glad our trees are finally old enough to really send them out.

I know most people consider wild blackberries a weed, but I think they are pretty and I know the birds love all the berries.  One year Paige picked a bunch and made a cobbler.  It was fabulous, but I'm not that dedicated and I just let them go.  I enjoy the blossoms as much as anything.  You could smell them from 15 feet away.

No Mow May was a huge success (in my books ;-) and I have added it to the maybe three things I like about spring.  If you have the opportunity, give it a try.

If you'd like to hang out in the meadow for a bit longer, here's a new puzzle.
