RELEASE:

Released: October 6, 2009

Rather than collapsing under the duress of a demanding year, Headlights have survived to surface with a collection of songs praising the transience of our friendships, lives, and aspirations.
As if the complexity of what the band worked through can’t be confined to standard verse-chorus structures, Wildlife sees Headlights stretching out instrumentally, letting songs breathe and grow in a manner similar to their accomplished live sets.

The band allows leadoff track, “Telephones,” to lift into a soaring, guitar-led coda. “Secrets” tight, claustrophobic verses and cyclic keyboards frame a breathless meditation on grief before erupting into wordless catharsis.

The album isn’t without upbeat moments. “I Don’t Mind at All” is a blurred, chugging rocker in the vein of classic shoegaze. On “Get Going” acoustic strumming and a buoyant bass line carry the song to a liquid chorus.

Wildlife is a work more elegiac than rousing, where the intimacy and elegance of the songs never fail to remind us of what has been left behind.

Headlights: “Cherry Tulips” [MP3|VIDEO]

Headlights, banda de indie pop rock de Champaign, IL, USA, formada por Tristan Wraight, Erin Fein, Brett Sanderson, Nick Sanborn e John Owen, está lançando seu segundo álbum, Some Racing, Some Stopping, via Polyvinyl Records. A primeira canção liberada é “Cherry Tulips”.

Some Racing, Some Stopping
Released: February 19, 2008

To fully understand what went into Some Racing, Some Stopping, one must first understand what led up to it. Since Headlights' formation in 2004, the band has toured virtually nonstop, playing over 300 shows in the past two and a half years in support of its debut The Enemies EP and its stunning 2006 full-length Kill Them With Kindness.

Based around Tristan Wraight's acoustic guitar and Erin Fein's keyboards, the songs on Some Racing, Some Stopping purposefully lack much of the spacey atmospherics that define the band's earlier work. Instead the album is steeped in a classic pop sensibility, reminiscent of the '60s, Brill Building song craft, and Phil Spector production.

Songs like the chiming, harmonic "Catch Them All," the light and airy "Cherry Tulips," the solemn "January," and the driving, string-touched "Market Girl" are evidence of an album that is more focused than any of the band's past work.

3. Market Girl
4. On April 2
5. School Boys

Kill Them With Kindness
Released: August 22, 2006

Headlights deliver a pop masterpiece with its debut album.

Kill Them with Kindness is alive with a pulse that beats with shoegaze spirit. There is a synthesis of keyboards and guitars, of vocals, of ethereal programming and huge drums; a solidification of lyrics centered on the paradoxes and ups and downs we all experience in life. Through its veins runs the lifeblood of an indie-pop band not afraid of anything at all.

In this world of stun or be stunned, by the time Kill Them with Kindness shimmers to its close, you realize not only how remarkable the album is, but how rare it is for a debut LP to yield such dramatic results.

After recording basic tracks with Kristian Riley (Decibully, Maritime) at Bionic Studios in Milwaukee, members of Headlights applied the finishing touches at the band's farmhouse just north of their hometown of Champaign, Illinois.

Kill Them With Kindness follows two EPs, a tour-only live recording, and a split 7" with Arts & Crafts band The Most Serene Republic.
