Gifts, Chairs and a Hutch, Oh My

I received my first mini gifts.

Thank you much  Drora  .   They are so cute and well made. I feel very special to have these minis all the way from Israel.

Jaynie really likes the bag,
she says it is just perfect and
 sends her thanks also.

Casey    has been making ¼” scale couches and chairs.  It reminded me of an idea that I drawn out a while ago.  The general idea came from a printie of  a chair that was part of Santa’s house. (I don’t remember from where)

I redrew the pattern in 1/2" scale on 1/4" graph paper.

Then I changed it to make it from a single piece

Then I shrunk it to 50%

I cut it from a green index card,  folded and  glued.
This is what I got, one with and one without the wings.

They are not very well done but just give an idea of how they come out.

I'm still woking on the hutch,  I found paper for the backing, it is not what I was looking for but once I saw it I liked it.    Now I’m thinking of trying a reddish brown like the one in the paper for the counter top shelf,

I welcome comments, please let me know what you think.

Never As Simple As It Seemed

First I finally finished Jaynie’s chair. First I stained the feet and didn’t like how they looked. Then I painted them, glued them on and they just were not right. So I searched through my wooden beads found some that got glued to the chair. Now Jaynie’s happy.

Second, I started working on a hutch. First I took it apart a bit, I took the draw front off. While I was doing that the top section came apart from the bottom so I figured that it would probably be easier to handle that way.

I sanded it a bit to round and soften some of the edges. I started painting with a light wash of a cream color (Apple Barrel -Vanilla). I wanted the wood grain to still show through a little. I put on a few layers, some parts took more than others to make them look even. Then I painted the top,  bottom and the draw front a sage green.

I like the colors so far, it still needs some touch ups. (Don’t look too close.) I still need to paint the counter shelf, I’m thinking a darker green, I may try marbling it (using Casey’s chest top as inspiration). I’m also going to try to build a working draw and I think that I may also add feet. What do you think so far?

Shh Jaynie

Jaynie has been complaining for some time that I have not finished her chair. Today she started following me around saying over and over that I really need to finish it now.  (Sorry for the blurry picture.)

It really is too short for her and I did plan it to have legs.  I finally took the legs that I wanted off a Michael’s hutch, now I can’t find the stain pen that I need before I glue them on.

Maybe I can distract Jaynie for a while.

It worked, Jaynie is distracted for now with the new cat.

Hopefully I’ll be able to find the stain tomorrow and finally finish it before she starts in again.

I think I will try to (some day) make a new seat cushion also, I think this one is too flat.
