Crochet Amigurumi

Image
I don't tend to crochet much, but I took a notion to make a toy so I'm mid-make now. I find I have to concentrate so much and I'm always counting! The hardest part with this toy is trying to crochet parts when some of it has already been stuffed. As you know, I tend to knit toys flat, then seam them up. It's a learning curve. Monday is back to school for my kids and with Oliver starting playschool it's going to free up a few hours for me in the mornings.  So hopefully this poor little blog will start getting a bit more love and attention :)

Turn your Super Suzy into a dude

or a girl with short hair - if that's what's needed! Use 3.5mm needles and double knitting yarn in the colour of your choice.  Abbreviations as per the Petite Purls pattern. Cast on 50sts. Rows 1-17: k Row 18: (k3, k2tog) to end - 40 sts Row 19: k Row 20: (k2, k2tog) to end - 30 sts. Row 21: k Row 22: (k1, k2tog) to end - 20 sts. Row 23: k Row 24: (k2tog) to end -10 sts. Break off a long length of yarn, thread through the remaining stitches, pull up tightly and fasten off.  Seam the row edges. Place the hair on the dolls head, pinning if desired to keep in place.  Sew in position. Viola!

I have a very happy little girl!

Free Pattern - Fat Owl

I promised this pattern a long time ago.  Fat Owl download now   Typed while I was tired, and the applique instructions are pretty slim so mail me if you have any questions!

Dying some fabric

Image
While making another little owlet this evening Emily asked if I would make her a toy.  I haven't made her a new one in a while, most things are being saved for markets or have been ear-marked for presents. So I asked her what she wanted.  And she requested ... A fairy.  With blonde hair.  Brown skin.  Different colour clothes.  A rainbow fairy! I don't have any suitable brown fabric for the skin so when she went to bed I concocted this mix of tea, water and fabric. Hope it works (fingers crossed!)

Owlet and Blankie

Image
Meet Mochuelo - so named as its the Spanish word for an owlet, and I stitched this little guy while watching the European Cup final, which Spain won. The pattern for the owlet is from Dolls and Daydreams .  Its a well written pattern, very easy to follow. For the little tag blanket I just crocheted a square with cotton, and then sewed on ribbons and fabric with the machine.

I love this doll!

DH has taken the kids out for an hour or two so time for some frantic sewing! I had the body of this doll made ages.  So I took her out.  Embroidered her face, did her hair and then started to dress her. I had no plan as to how I'd finish her, but I just love how she turned out.  She's a real little hippie chick!

Sukie
