Summer, sun and sand! And lots of it was the recipe for a good Christmas holiday in NSW. We visited the lovely beach by Nobby's in Newcastle and it was the best place for the kids to go exploring in the natural little rock pools (that were big enough to swim in).

It also seemed like nice spot to do some surfing in, since the waves were big and lots of surfers were having fun on them. We found a good little spot in the Ocean Bath facility with calm waters to swim in for the kids and plenty of places to check out the ocean life like exploring star fishes close up. D got a chance to try out his VIVOBAREFOOT which were the perfect summer shoes, they had a good grip on the wet rocks and it didn't matter if he walked in the water with them either. Big thumbs up from us.

This week promises 41c for a couple of days in a row so we are planning for more beach days, sipping ice blocks in the shade and any other way we can stay cool. The sizzling summer is here!

We had a great holiday, with a lot of sun and smiles and we made sure to bring home lots of sweet memories in our suitcases. We visited a lot of great beaches, met up with relatives we hadn't met before and visited places full of fun. Above is a few photos of a warm afternoon on the banks of Lake Maquarie, NSW. We even spotted a boat that caught M's attention! I think we were meant to see that one :)

This particular place was called Pelican and for a good reason. We saw them everywhere and it was amazing seeing them coming in for landing and catching fish right in front of us. I hope you all have had a relaxing break and a lovely holiday and a good start to the new year! 2014 has started, and we got lots of fun things in store here on the blog... Moments | Slowing Down

Some moments from this afternoon. Sun is out and about and we spent an hour or so on a playground the kids like to go to. Only a stone throw away from the beach, but since both myself and the little guy are down with a cold there was no need to think about going to the beach today. Instead we built little rock towers and had a little competition on who could hit it first. The winner would get ice-cream, I guess it was a tie because we all got one in the end. 

Holidays are coming up, and boy do we need it! Another grade done and dusted in school for M and D moves up to big boy 4 yr Kinder next year. Things are going fast and a holiday is just what we need to slow things down. Have a lovely weekend!

I can't say it has been many opportunities so far this summer but last weekend the kiddos had a chance to enjoy the water for an evening dip. Hoping with the upcoming summer holiday there will be more of these opportunities. Finally jumping on a plane to visit NSW and a chance to see Sydney up close. After being in the middle of cold rain storms lately it was a welcome break from the bad weather this weekend. On Saturday we finally got a good day with sun and warm weather so we went to our favourite beach hang out for a play and lunch. It was if everybody felt the same way and it was so good to feel the sun warm your skin up. We munched on fresh fish and chips from the beach restaurant and got a few hours in the sand. Some brave beach goes went in the water but it is still a bit too cold to really enjoy the waves.

The kids were happy dipping their legs and building sandcastles instead. It has been such an odd Spring with cold one day and warm the next. You truly don't have a clue where the day will go. Think we are all wishing for more stability in the weather soon and more days like this were it feels like you have recharged properly for a new week. I hope you all enjoyed your weekend too and are ready for a new week.
