Photography | Dreaming

Every year around this time of the year, I start dreaming of vacation. Summer vacation. Lazy days in the sun, no thoughts about time only moments with the family and good food. These photos by Andreas Lind, takes me there, if not in reality then in the mind, which makes me hold out for a little bit longer...

APP LOVE | HEY HEY

I think my kids like many other kids out there do pick up an ipad or an iphone or a similar device every now and then and wants to play something. We try and keep a limit to how much playtime the kids get on these devices, but I have to admit there is so much great creative choices now in apps that it is hard to keep my fingers away from them myself. Hey Hey Apps is one of them.  We recently got a chance to try it out, and I have to admit I have been using it just as much as the kids.

You can snap a photo with your phone/ipad and then it is up to you how you want it to come to life. Featuring the art of renowned street artist Bue the Warrior (who I have written about before here.), you can make any object come to life by adding eyes, mouths, glasses, characters, etc to your photo. It is a great concept that keeps the imagination happy. My kids often took shots of themselves or each other and went to town with the transformations. There is nothing that can bring out giggles like putting a little poop character on your sisters/brother head! Or your parents for that matter ;) If you want to give your kids a break from all the mindless score focused games out there, then this is a good place start. To see the app in action see a little video here.

As a little bonus it is back to school day in Europe, so today 2nd Sep & 3rd of Sep you can download the app for FREE!

There are endless of inspiration at Le Vestiaire de Jeanne / VDJ blog. Everytime I look at this blog the creative cogs in my brain go crazy. The cuts, the shades of grey, the beautiful styling, the amazing model Jeanne who makes the clothes look so incredible comfortable and wonderful to wear, all these factors makes it my number one place to visit when I just want to get some pure clothes and fabric inspiration. The text is in French, but when the images are this good, I would say it speaks it's own international language!

BIG Kids Magazine

I am head over heels in love with this magazine... Big Kids Magazine. It is a contemporary arts publication for children. Driven by discovery, experimentation and response, they invite children to participate in topical conversations about art and the world. With a senior editor that is eight years old, BIG challenges hierarchies of who is listening and who is speaking to amplify small voices in BIG ways...

The first page of the BIG story was scribed in a note flown from Perth, Western Australia to Sydney, NSW. In it, Jo shared her dream of making a creative arts-based children’s magazine with Lilly which sparked a rapid-fire correspondence and the co-creation of BIG Kids Magazine. Jo’s world is dance. Lilly’s is visual art. They are artists, educators, mothers and now publishers. They have not seen each other for over 12 years and work side by side on BIG from opposite sides of the country.

Children's Gallery International

I am liking the idea of place where kids can share their art and get inspired by seeing what other kids create. Well recently I got an email from Michelle McInerney the creator of The International Children’s Gallery. A new online art gallery for displaying the artwork of children aged 0-13 years - a dedicated space for showcasing the imagination and creativity of our gorgeous little children, at home and at school.

From drawings to painting, craft and poetry this lovingly curated gallery helps children to develop a new sense of pride about their beautiful work and to feel like a famous artist!

Uploading artwork is quick and easy – parents and teachers can upload photographs of their children's artwork 'in a jiffy', in just three simple steps, and the kids will be so excited to see their pictures in a gallery! The simple act of creating is the founding principle of this gallery. If a child is inspired to create in even one home as a result of this project then this truly is a happy space.

The gallery is not here to judge or curate – all children’s artwork is valued and published. It’s real, it’s possible, it’s theirs. Check it out, and feel free to spread the word!

minä perhonen

A good friend of mine recommended me to have a look at Japanese fashion label minä perhonen. After just a quick look I was instantly inspired to create! There is no limit to this brand. You can find inspiration in all areas, illustration, furniture, accessories, fabric, fashion all while just looking at their creations. The name means I Butterfly in Finnish, clearly inspired by Scandinavian design. The clean lines and shapes walk softly hand in hand as does the light mellow colours and the soft shades.

The head designer and label founder Akira Minagawa's quirky prints is also available to buy in a book form, from Selvedge.
