Glencroft Dollhouse Build Siding Strips for floors

(The Original date of this blog entry was July 1, 2005)

I wanted to do wood floors for sure in at least 2 rooms. The problem was, I did not have any wood flooring Posted Image  and it's late at night. I did not know what to do until I found my last two packs of Corona Birch Wood siding. I cut each strip to size and then glued each strip one at a time. After I completed the room, I sanded it and added wood filler to fill any gaps.

After that I noticed I was completely out of wood stain (yeap, 11:30pm in Wisconsin, EVERYTHING is closed including some gas stations Posted Image I miss the big city ). I looked in my paint cabinet and pulled out dark burnt umber paint and added some "delta" glossy varnish and mixed my own stain and out popped walnut colored floors Posted Image .

Just when I thought I did not have any imagination Posted Image

Walls O & P

Well, I thought I was finished with the paper clay in this room and discovered walls O & P which needed to be installed. I decided to paper clay all inside walls. The two downstairs ones are stucco (the fireplace has a stone wall). The large room upstairs has stones on all walls in this room. I have not picked the fabric for the window seats yet but I know it will be blue.I have picked out my lights but I am still waiting on one of the ceiling lights. I have the light bulb in my fireplaces but I have not added any other electric yet.

Glencroft Dollhouse Build Installing Beams

(The Original Date of this Blog was June 22, 2005)

Well, I was stuck on this part and I was trying to figure which beams go where and thought that this would help others (Since I think I got them figured out now). This is the instructions showing which beams go where and I hope this helps you. I will post pictures of my progress soon. I am using paper clay inside and out on this house and I have to let it dry a bit more before I glue anything in place.

I installed all beams and I am waiting for the glue to dry (refer to section G on your instructions). This is the way they should look when you have assembled the entire set of them. Hope this helps all of you Glencroft builders out there! please note the pictures below is of the ceiling with the house turned upside down

Glencroft Dollhouse Build Staircases & Fireplaces

(The Original Title & Date of this blog was Staircases & Fireplaces June 16 2005)

Well, it took forever and a Day to figure this one out. I was having problems trying to figure out WHERE the heck the stupid stairs & Beam went starting in section B4 and Section B5 and Section B6 After pulling my hair out, cleaning up the kitchen, coming back for another 30 minutes and still not getting it. Hubby took me for a walk to clear my head. Got back 1 hour later and STILL ;) could not figure it out. I found out Nutti was having a problem here too. I looked at the old forum and found that THIS was the part EVERYONE was having issues with too :p . Guess who fixed it and figured it out? ;) Linda's Hubby Jimmie did & Linda sent me pictures of theirs and it all clicked mentally :p ;) (I gotta love my friends )

I still had to cut the wood so that the parts would "fit" correctly but Hey, it's in!! :p I then moved on to adding the stairs and risers. I also had to decorate the hallway because once this house is assembled, there is NO way you'll be able to wallpaper it after this section is assembled. I also decorated the bookcase and the fireplace was paperclayed as I assembled this because of lack of access later.

Thank You for stopping by to build this house with me!! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for reading my blog!

The Glencroft Dollhouse Starting The Build

Day One (Original Blog Post was on June 15, 2005)

I was so excited when I received this kit in the mail. I totally LOVE Cottages and Tudor styled cottages are even better!!

I thought this house was going to be a piece of cake. Shucks, I had put together so many Greenleaf kits (some even bigger than this one). I was in for a BIG surprise!! On a level of 1 - 10 based on difficulty, I must say this kit is at an 7. There are SO many parts to it!

When I first started on direction part A1 - A3 it went together similar to the others:

By the time we got to A4 that is when the headache began. It was not hard, it was just so many parts to locate, label then figure out where it went. It took me 2 hours to do step A1 - A18

I thought I would be further along and I went to my OLD directions (from the 1983 Glencroft kit) several times to see an actual picture of the steps. I must say, the newer ones (the drawings) are easier to follow because the parts are marked "A, B, C etc...

This is going to be a Wonderful house when completed. Just be sure to KNOW, you will spend some time on it. Just looking at the shell, I have decided wallpaper for a couple of the rooms. This house has plenty of character and Charm. This is going to be a WONDERFUL ride!! :p I did not know I was going to be challenged with this house and I am pretty glad because it can get dull building quick build houses all of the time.
