Vaarini kuoli tänä syksynä 92-vuotiaana ja samalla tavallaan katkesi siteeni siihen kymenlaaksolaiseen paikkakuntaan, jossa Mummola oli. Isovanhempani joutuivat muuttamaan muistikuvieni Mummolasta jo 80-luvulla, kun tehdas, jonka tontilla talo oli, laajentui. Vaarini oli asunut talossa 4-vuotiaasta asti, joten muuttaminen oli haikeaa. Mummoni kuoli jo 1997, ja nyt kun vaarikin lähti, huomaan ajattelevani paljon lapsuuden Mummolaa ja isovanhempiani. Päätinkin, että haluan tehdä Mummolan tuvan sellaisena kuin sen muistan (eli ei haittaa vaikken muistaisi kaikkea "oikein").
Koska en ole saanut käsiini, enkä ehtinyt rakentaa sopivaa laatikkoa, niin päädyin aloittamaan ihan vain kapalevylle lautalattian kokoamista. Lattia on tehty Bilteman sytyketikuista (1,6x26 cm).
My grand father died this autumn at the age of 92 and with that the bond I had to a small town in southeastern Finland somehow broke. When I was 8 my grand parents had to move from their house as the factory that owned the land was expanding. My granddad had lived there ever since he was 4 years old so moving was kind of sad. My granny had died already in 1997 and now with granddad also gone I wanted to reminisce that place filled with memories. So I decided to do a Granny's house kitchen as I remember it from my childhood (and it does not matter if I don't remember everything "correctly").
Because I still haven't got my hands to a suitable box I started the plain floor on a base of cardboard. Floor is made of wooden stick they sell for the purpose of getting the fire started for example in sauna or a fireplace (they measure 1,6x26 cm).

Lattia maalataan tummanruskeaksi, ja siihen pitää nakutella koloja ja naarmuja autenttista tunnelmaa luomaan.
Tein pahvista väliaikaiset seinät, jotka tapetoin vaaleankeltaisella tapetilla. Oikeasti Mummolan seinät oli maalatut, mutta tuo vanhasta tapettikirjasta löytämäni tapetti näyttää maalatulta ja valmista tuli ah, niin nopeasti!
Nyt alkuun Mummolan raakile saanee toimia jouluhuoneena: haluan laittaa jonnekin näkyville mini-jouluhuoneen kuusineen ja jouluaterioineen. Eli nyt alkuun sisustus ei noudattele Mummolaa juurikaan, vaikka Mummolaan hankkimiani ja tekemiäni tavaroita onkin näytillä.
The floor will be painted brown and I must violate it somehow to get the authentic feeling of a worn and old flooring. I made the walls from cardboard also and furnished them with yellow wallpaper. In reality there were painted walls at Granny's but this wallpaper has a "painted" look and it was so nice and quick!
Granny's house will have an other purpose first: it will be a Christmas Room that I will place somewhere in our home as a decoration with it's christmas trees and festive meals. So, now in the beginning the room doesn't necessarily look like my granny's kitchen.
