WEDNESDAY

Katherine picked me up for the BCNN meeting at 8:55 and off we went to Oxnard. The program was on "preventing falls" delivered by a nice young OT:

Katherine didn't want to go to lunch and I was okay with that. She dropped me off and I joined LaVerne; Bee and Mary sat down with us, too. After, I called the Access Van to schedule a ride to Erica's gathering tomorrow evening; to my dismay, they had none available. I called Erica and she suggested I call Becky; I did and she was kind enough to say she'll pick me up.

After, I just played a bit on my favorite Big Fish games, then went down to dime Bingo at 2:00. We had a long session--I didn't win a single game--and I didn't get back until almost time for dinner. Of course, dinner here is very early for my taste: 5:00 O'Clock, but I'm getting used to it, I guess.

Also at Bingo: A Bengal cat on a leash suddenly walked in with his owner, my manacurist, Elika, and
we all made a big fuss over him. This is a good picture of kitty, but not of Elika. Here, she looks grumpy, but she actually has an appealing warm and fun-loving personality:

Ate with Kathie, LaVerne, and Pat; Keith sat elsewhere. The salmon was good and so were the sides. Slept well and am looking forward to the "women of Fractured Actors" gathering at Erica's tonight.

TUESDAY

Following my urge, at 10:00 am. I took the city bus to CVS and Von's. Got my medication at the former and a few items at the latter. As I was sitting at the bus stop to get one home, Elika, my manucurist, came up. She and her daughter, Diana, had just been at Diana's high school graduation. E. offered to take me home and I accepted with pleasure.

Got in just in time for lunch. Sat with Kathie and Keith--Pat didn't show--and had tasty shrimp tacos with sides. Upstairs after and put away my purchases, then did a bit on the laptop and prepared for dime Bingo at 2:00. Didn't win a single game, but enjoyed it, as ever. I stayed after for some of Trivia, but that's getting a little boring. Some of the questions are on topics so obscure to me that I don't enjoy it, so left about 4:00. Before I did, though, two of our servers came in; they had just come from their Buena High graduations. Some of the servers are in college or are college age; Samantha and Terry are two of the younger ones:

From left: Anita (who's 95), LaVon, Dyan, Samatha, Harry, Terry, Mary, and some frumpy old lady--AAGH!

Had dinner with Kathie, Pat, and Keith. The entree was "Asian pork," which didn't appeal to me, so I had a bagel and lox--very yummy.  After I showered and washed my hair, I settled down for the evening after an active and enjoyable day.

MONDAY

In lieu of breakfast, I took a load to the laundry room. I was able to play some games on the laptop while it was washing, then put it in the dryer and went down balance exercise class. It's annoying when a certain resident comes late, as she brings the chair next to mine and it was hard to spread my arms without hitting her. Hmm...maybe I should hit her...No, no, Mimi, now stop it.

Exercise over, I retrieved the wash from the dryer, folded, and put it away. Went downstairs at 11:00 to wait for Susan to pick me up for Soaring Spirits lunch. She did and off we went to the Stone Fire Grille. Gayle was there and later, Glena and Lyndall came and we had a good, free-wheeling talk covering suicide, Las Vegas, and my grandson's pickleball place in Hatboro, Pa.

Amusingly, I had told Susan about my older great-grandson because her daughter is looking for a boyfriend. However, the daughter's twenty years older than he is, he's in Jersey, and--more significsantly, he just moved in with his girlfriend. Anyway, we had a very enjoyable session. Susan ill be gone for a month visiting her parents in San Diego, so I'll have to get to the next several dinners and lunches on my own. I'll probably use The Orchard van and the Access Van.

I asked Susan as a favor, to stop at CVS on the way home so I could pick up my medication.  That was about 2:00 and to my great annoyance, the pharmacy department was closed for an hour, presumably for lunch. Dammit, about six people work in that department--why can't they stagger lunch? I might go back today on the bus or else I'll ask Katherine to stop there after the BCNN meeting tomorrow.

After I got home, I cleaned up a bit, then did ten minutes on the cardio bike. I want to increase it by five minutes each day until I hit a half hour and I'll do that daily.

Erica texted, asking if we could go to lunch today instead of Thursday, as she's having Fractured Actors women over; of course, I'm invited, too. I told her I was booked today, so we'll make a lunch date for another time. I'll attend her little gathering, too.

Dinner with Kathie, Pat, and Keith; didn't see LaVerne all day.

SUNDAY--THE END OF AN ERA

I skipped lunch in favor of taking the Access Van to the farewell bash for Luminal Church and Fractured Actors. It was nothing like I expected, as there were only a handful of F.A. alums there besides me: Jonathan, Meredith, Bryan, Kathy, Alphonse, Lindsay, Ken, Amy, and Matt. The rest of the attendees--a hundred or so people--were all church members. They are now going to be moving to a new location and F.A. is effectively finished. The fact that Jeff and Shannon are now divorced and the site will no longer be available combined to end it.

The party was held indoors and out and hamburgers and chips were provided, as well as water to drink (I was hoping for a cold beer), and a few games for the kids. I spoke to Jonathan, who has bleached his hair blond and looks like a model (he's in this twenties). He told me he and his husband are moving to Dallas and we had a good chat. Erica was a kind of M.C. and asked others to say a few words. I told of performing in Welcome Home when I first moved to California and discovered Fractured Actors; Erica was in it, too. Here are some pics of the bash:

The Access Van picked me up a bit after 2:00 and, just as I was leaving, Shannon was coming. We hugged and she'll call me for lunch.

As soon as I got back to The Orchard , I joined the Bingo crowd and actually won a game, although I was only there for two. After, I played Yahzee with volunteeer Cindy and Keith, Frances, and Beverly. Unfortunately, Beverly was obnoxious, directing everybody. Ha--I threw the dice and got Yahzee and won the game. Dined with Trudie, Carl, Carol, Stan, and Barbara. It was pork loin, but pretty tough, so I gave half of mine to Dyan for Della (her pup).

Son Mike Facetimed me at 7:00 and we had a good talk. Vivian is in London and Violet was asleep (it was early morning there). Mike will be moving in July, as after the divorce, he had taken his present apartment because it was close to Violet's school. In September, she'll be at Savannah College of Art and Design and Mike will get a place more to his liking.

Katherine texted me, asking if I wanted her to pick me up for the BCNN meeting on Wednesday. Sure, why not, and she will.

SATURDAY

Lunch with Keith and LaVerne--none of us knew where Kathie was. After, I enjoyed winning a game in dime Bingo, then going upstairs to the salon for my manicure. Elika did a great job, as usual, and I'll be having her give me a pedicure next.

I just don't understand the electronic world: As I recorded here, I had been unable to use neither my unattached keyboard or my mouse, so had to make do with the laptop keyboard. However, after a day of this, the mouse suddenly started working and now--so has the keyboard I favor! Hey, if it lasts, I'm okay with it.

I saw neither Kathie not Keith at dinner (Keith came later), so ate with Allan, Beverly, and Frances. The entree was rice curry and meatballs, which didn't appeal to me, so I had a bagel with salmon. After dinner, I called Kathie and found that she has a burst blood vessel in her left eye and also has been feeling sluggish; she had blood work done and will see the doctor today.'

I ordored some IPA from Whole Foods and they had it delivered at 9:45 pm. That's really late for me, but I I just went to bed a little later. Slept well and got up at 6:15.

Today is the Fractured Actors farewell party Access Van will pick me up at 11:45.

FRIDAY

Stripped the bed and took the sheets to the laundry. I fooled around with this and that until time for the balance class at 10:00. After that, I stuck around to sit and chat with Mindy and Elaine. Dried the sheets, remade the bed, then went to lunch with Keith and LaVerne. We wondered where Kathie was, as she wasn't in the dining room for dinner Thursday night, either. I called her and   left a message.

I called the Access Van to schedule a pick up and drop off for tomorrow when I go to the Fractured Actors' final gathering, That's a melonchony prospect, but at least Second Act Players is in the works.

Went down to the singalong at 3:00; our resident pianist, Carol, played a lot of the old favorites and we sang along, with various mixed drinks to make it merry.

Had dinner with Trudie, Carl, and Barbara, then went up to shower and get ready for bed. I've been sleeping well lately, I'm glad to say,  I'm debating with myself whether to go to Nails L'Elegance to get a pedicure. I have an appointment this afternoon with Elita for a manicure, so maybe I should just have her do it. Dunno...

THURSDAY

A quiet day.  I went to Bone Builders class at 10:30, then lunch directly after. Sat with Kathie, LaVerne and Bee and had a tasty bagel and lox. I then did nuthin' much aside from playing Jewel Match Royale and orderiing international stamps on-line.

I finally bestirred myself to go to the exercise room and ride the bike. I was pleased that I rode for a whole half-hour and felt good to do it.

Dinner with Keith and LaVerne--don't know where Kathie was--and had some pleasant conversation, as usual. I skipped the main entree of quiche Lorraine and had the Asian salad. Took home the dessert--no sugar ice cream--but will return the dish.

Damn, this laptop is acting up again. Now the unattached keyboard isn't working again and it'sso hard for me to use the attached one. Must consult Ellen.

Thursday, May 28, 2026

WEDNESDAY

I went to the balance class at 10:00 and when it was over just did this and that, including my favorite Jewel Match Royale. Had lunch with Allan, Beverly, and Frances.

Mary Ann had told me she'll be out of town tomorrow, so won't be able to pick me up for T.O.P.S.; Cheryl then volunteered to do so. However, she called yesterday to say she wasn't going, as she had just gotten out of the hospital with pneumonia. I was alarmed to hear that, as she said she had fainted the other day. She has fainted before and that's pretty worrisome. I told her I wasn't too enthusiastic about going myself and she said she'd call Sharon to tell her. She did so and Sharon called me to say Lennie had decided to cancel the meeting. Fine by me.

I went to the new resident greeting meeting at 3:00. There was a good singer for entertainment, as well as various drinks. There were two newbies, Judy and Al (no related or connected) whom Mindy asked to say a few words. Judy, to whom I've spoken before, went on and on, saying she's an artist and a singer. Hmm...to say she's peculiar doesn't cut it.  I sat next to her at the Sabbatt on Saturday and she told me she had asked Jesus to give her permission to have a glass of wine; he complied. Also, at the gathering, Dyan told me Judy had said she was married to Jesus. Okay... As for the other newbie, Al, he had played in trumpet in the Hollywood Bowl when he was a kid.

Back in my apartment at almost 5:00 and I wasn't the slightest bit hungry for dinner. However, I went down, sat with Keith, LaVerne, and Pat and enjoyed the crab salad.

Note: I received my Werther's no-sugar candy from Amazon and ordered a top on-line, which should be here in a few days.

Note Two: I've been sleeping well and my BP has mostly been normal lately.

SUNDAY, MONDAY, AND TUESDAY

FINALLY, my laptop is operational. I don't want to go into detail about what happened (which was my fault, no question) but my darling daughter, Ellen, fixed it. Anyway, here's a quick rundown  of the last three days:

SUNDAY: Lunch with Noreen and Gary at Danny's Deli, to which I took the city bus. Went to Target first and bought something, but I don't remember what. Also can't recall what I did the rest of the day.

MONDAY:  Susan picked me up and we went off to meet Vera and the rest of the former Soaring Spirits gang at The Greek, a restaurant overlooking the harbor. Had a great time both seeing Vera and celebrating her birthday, which had been the day before:

She's forty-eight years and a day old!

From left, Frances, Gayle, Glenda, yours truly, Dinna, Vera, and Susan.

It was great seeing Vera, someone who's very close to my heart. It doesn't matter that she's considerably younger than my youngest child; we're soulmates.

TUESDAY:  Dear Ellen came at 11:30 and fixed this machine. Can't remember exactly what I had done to it, but I was all set to take it to Axion. Luckily, there was no need. We then went to BOA for  me to get dimes for dime Bingo, and topped the day off with Jasmine Thai for lunch.

When I got home, I immediately went to the multi-purpose room for my Bingo fix. I actually won two games and now am swimming in dimes. El came after, bringing me the Miracle-Gro for tomatoes and graduation cards for Vivian and Violet. She fed the tomatoes and they're already bearing fruit--still small and green, but they'll be wonderful when ripe.

Dinner with Kathie, Keith, and Pat. It was meat loaf and not bad. Slept reasonably well, but it's now 3:45 am and what am I doing up?  I just got up for the usual and felt like playing my match game  on the laptop. Hey, I have no plans for today, so I can nap later, so what's the prob with that?

Tuesday, May 26, 2026

SATURDAY

An active day: I skipped breakfast, as is now my habit, but went downstairs at 11:00 to participate in "the brunch bunch." I had thought it meant a buffet of some kind, but actually, residents cooked or baked the food themselves  Activities director Mindy was supervising and she gave me the task of mixing, kneading, and rolling out the dough for "Dutch pancakes." They're a kind of crust in which strawberries and blueberries are placed, then are sprinkled with powered sugar and topped with whipped cream. While the dough rose, I went to lunch (with Kathie and LaVerne), then went back to sample the goody. It was delicious and Mindy insisted it was all to my credit because my handling of the dough was so good. Ha--I used to make pies and cakes without even thinking twice.

Right after we finished off the treat, we sat down for dime Bingo. I won one, but still ran out of dimes and Mindy staked me to a dollar's worth. She said she would insititute quarter Bingo in June and I'm looking forward to that.

Jusat as I was about to call Noreen, she called me. We chatted then make a date for lunch today at Danny's Deli.

Bingo was no sooner over than Trivia started and I stayed for that. There were the usual inane questions, but it was sort of fun. Went back to my place to get my lemon chunks for iced tea, then down to dinner with Kathie and Keith. As I told them, I'm going out for lunch the next three days: tomorrow, Sunday, at Danny's with Noreen; tomorrow, Monday, to The Greek to see dear Vera, back from Oregon; and Tuesday, lunch and other good things with Ellen.

I also completed some necessary chores: did a white wash, took trash to the place, and set up my medications for the week.

Saturday, May 23, 2026

FRIDAY

I gained 1.2 both at home and at T.O.P.S.; to 138.6 and 139.8 respectively. Okay, I'll work on that. The meeting was meandering as usual, ranging from Mormonism to Sharon's backgroumd. Speaking of whom, here she is in the latest outfit, pretty in lavender:

Home a bit before 10.00 and I quickly changed and went down to balance class; I was pleased to see Kathie there. Ate lunch with her, LaVerne, and Bee. We saw Keith sitting elsewhere, after he returned  from the outing to Ventura Botanical Gardens.

I took a short nap before going to Australian Happy Hour at 3:30. A nice young duo sang sixties songs. Seems to me that the fifties would be even more enjoyable, but it was fun. Back up to my place to add to this entry, then at 5:30, I went down to attend the Sabbat dinner.

It was enjoyable, actually. There were fifteen people there, not all Jewish, and Art did the grace-- or sabbath prayer, whatever--before we enjoyed the brisket, salmon, veggies, and so on, as well as red or white wine. Peter did a Catholic soliloqy, which seermed to me very inappropriate; he's one of those very conservative types and I asked if he had been in the seminary. No, in corporate law, which seems to be on a par.  Good dinner and conversation before I left at 7:00. Before I did, Mindy asked me to send her Suzy's contact info, which I did once I got home. I hope that means she's ready to engage Suzy to appear here.

I'm wondering if I should venture to the mall on the city bus today and/or call Noreen to meet me for lunch at Danny's Deli. Hmm...

THURSDAY

Went to Bone Builders class at 10:30, then directly to lunch with Kathie and Keith. Did this and that afterwards, then went down to the multi-purpose room to check out the original, homemade soaps by Biancha's cousin. I bought two for gifts--one in a pretty crystal heart and the other in a ceramic container. They were only ten dollars each, which seemed reasonable. Also bought raffle tickets for a large basket of the fancy soaps. Later, I was pleased to learn I had won not the basket, but some smaller prizes. Great--they'll make good gifts.

After, I went outside to sit at the clubhouse and make a few phone calls. As I always do, I wished so much I could call Muckie, but of course, I never can again. Took a nap after, then went to participate in trivia...

...but "Sip and Paint" was still going on and the five participants were working on their shore scene. Oh, well, I just accepted a glass of white infandel and sat down with Leila to talk. Actually, she talked and I listened; she's one of the many, many "it's all about me and I want to tell you my life story" who live here. If they're not elaborating about their grandchildren, they're giving advice, unsolicited or not.  Oh, well, there are others with whom I enjoy being friends.

I ordered from Amazon coffee, paper towels, and several other things. They should get here today or tomorrow. Dinnner with Kathie, Bee, and Pat; Keith didn't show.

T.O.P.S. today and we'll see how that goes.

Wednesday, May 20, 2026

WEDNESDAY

Stripped the bed, took sheets to the laundry, and re-made with others. By the time I had them in the dryer, it was lunchtime, so I went down to eat with Kathie, Keith, and LaVerne. Went back and forth to the laundry room to retrieve the sheets, put in a load of clothes, and slice up some lemons.

At 2:00, I went down to dime Bingo/Happy Hour. I actually--finally--won two games, playing my usual four cards. Good, that means I have a new supply of dimes. Stayed for Trivia, then went up to get the second load of wash.

Dinner with Kathie, Keith, and Pat; the latter blessed himself and said grace before the meal. I skipped the ham and beans stew in favor of a hot dog; didn't feel like eating that much.

Signed up to attend the Sabbat dinner tomorrow. I may be the only non-Jewish person there, but I don't care. I'm interested in other cultures and some of the friends I've made here are Jewish.

Showered and washed my hair before watching my hour of T.V.

💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

Here's a picture of Vivian's graduation with both parents, which Paula put on Facebook. I was glad to see it because no matter what went before--divorce and bitter feelings, I'm afraid--they are still the father and mother of a lovely young woman:

💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

TUESDAY

Skipped breakfast and at 10:00, had Rick take me in The Orchard van to CVS to pick up my medication. The Eliquis cost me $126.00. All my other meds are covered by insurance; don't know why this one isn't, but it was for a three-month supply, so a little more then five hundred a year, which is doable,

I had intended to get a pedicure via Nails D'Elegance, but when I went in, they were short-handed and said I had to come back later. I decided to skip it and will look into having Elika do it here. Called to have Rick pick me back up, which he did.

My old pal, Doris, called and we had a good talk. I hadn't heard from her for some time, so it was fun.

Kathie callled to say she was going to Wal-Mart, then lunch with her daughter. I didn't see Keith in the dining room, so sat with Trudie, Carl, Carol, and Stan. Had the Asian salad, which was pretty good.

Dime Bingo at 2:00 and wonder of wonders, I finally won a game. Unfortunately, there were only twelve people there, so I didn't get a big payoff, but so what--it was enough to keep me in the game. Also, we're doing dime Bingo again this afternoon, combined with Happy Hour--YAY!

Activities Director Mindy mentioned she was planning a Columbia-themed day and I told her Ellen had been there a few months ago and did she want pictures? Yes, indeed, she did, and was delighted after I forwarded Ellen's to her.

Ate with Kathie, Keith, and LaVerne; this time, Pat (a man) joined us. I had met him and seen him around and he seems a nice guy.

Slept well and just changed the bed before sitting down to top off this entry.

Tuesday, May 19, 2026

MONDAY

Again skipped breakfast, which seems to be working for me--anyway, I get hungry for lunch and enjoy it more. Fooled around on the laptop, then went down to Jackie's balance class. She knew Bob and when I mentioned I had taken pictures of his 100th birthday party the other day, she asked me to send them to her, which I did.

While downstairs, I requested the van for today, Tuesday, at 10:00. I want to go to Von's, CVS, and Nails L'Elegance, all in the same shopping center, across from where I used to live. Maybe I'll see if Vickie or Noreen might want to meet me for lunch there.

I really just lazed around after the balance class until Susan picked me up at 5:15. We met Lendal and Glenna there and had an enjoyable time chatting. I had the cauliflower appetizer, as I was still full from lunch. Home at 7:45 and that was it for the day.

Monday, May 18, 2026

SUNDAY

Slept unti 8:00 and didn't go down for breakfast. Later, I went down and got a banana, which they usually have for the taking and had that.

Mike Messaged me and we talked about Vivian's graduation; he'll be in Hawaii another four days. He said he'll send pictures of ex Paula and him with Vivian--good.

Lunch with Kathie, Keith, LaVerne and a newcomer: Kathie's friend, Agatha, newly arrived from Australia:

She and Kathie reminisced:

And here she is with the three of us (Keith came later):

It was kind of a game day later: played Bingo (not dime) at 2:00, then ran into Keith and Elaine, who were off to play Yatzee together. I joined them and actually won the first game.

Dinner with Kathie and Keith, then Elaine sat down with us. She's a pretty interesting person: five children, grandchildren, and nineteen great-grands, but I'm pretty sure she's younger than I am. She's very out-going, is an "ambassador" for The Orchard (unpaid assistant, I calls it), and I'd like to get to know her better. Enjoyed my now-only-weekly IPA with dinner, later had a bit of cream sherry, and slept well. Just got up at 6:15.
🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂

Incredible: Yesterday was Jeanne Dollard Painter's ninetieth birthday. Even more incredible: My twin sister's ninetieth is in December, so that makes me on the cusp--AAGH!

SATURDAY

I did little yesterday except watch granddaughter Vivian's graduation ceremony at University of Hawaii. That was three hours long and, as all these affairs are, was tedious. But I heard her name announced and saw her receive her diploma, so that was good. Her Dad sent some pictures, too:

He also sent a video of her actually receiving the diploma, but I haven't been able to copy that. It's a huge school and the stadium was packed with thousands of people--graduates, faculty, guests, and so on. It's just as well I didn't go after all--my children were not in favor and they were right.

Since I was watching the ceremony, I didn't go down for lunch, but just microwaved a pizza I had in the freezer. I was able to go to dime Bingo, but again, didn't win a single game--my luck has been going sour! However, it was fun and I stayed after for Trivia.

Had dinner with Kathie, Keith, and LaVerne and I took the baby parade trophy down to show them; They were charmed.

I had put the picture below  on Facebook, noting that in a little more than seven months, I'll "join" Aunt Maggie in being ninety--AAGH! This was at the party we had for her at Betty's big house on Atlantic Avenue. My three younger children are on the right and Betty's Carolyn is the little blonde next to the birthday girl:

Saturday, May 16, 2026

FRIDAY

Weight report: I was down 2.2 at home to 137.4; at T..O.P.S., I was down 2.3 to 138.3. Those numbers are gratifying, but still not within my desired weight zone of 125 to 130.

Got home in time to join the balance class with Jackie, then lunched with Kathie, Keith, and LaVerne. After, I just fooled around on the laptop until it was time for  Bob's big hundreth birthday party at 3:00. It was in the multi-purpose room, which barely held the crowd. Besides residents, a number of Bob's relatives were there, including young children. There was a quartet who sang, a lemon meringue pie for Bob, and lasagne and cupcakes for the rest of us. And Bob danced with several women! Here are some pics from the party:

At the end of the table: Carl wore a party hat over his baseball cap.

Kathie called to say she wasn't coming to dinner, as the med she takes for her migraine leaves her with no appetite. She can stand to lose a good fifty pounds, so that's actually not a bad thing. Ate with Keith and LaVerne and just had a half portion of chicken and sides.

Showered before bed and turned in about 9:30. Was wakeful and got up to play Jewel Match Royale, but then slept until 8:00, so that's okay. Skipped breakfast, which suits me okay.

THURSDAY WITH BETTY AND CAROLYN

And a good day with my dear niece and twin sister:  I skipped breakfast, instead sleeping until 8:30.  Just cleaned up a bit, and worked on the laptop until Carolyn at 10:30. After visiting for a bit, we left for Santa Barbara. Carolyn had an appointment, fo w went first to house, where I stayed with Calvin, Tony, and Drizzle* until she returned. In the meantime, I managed take a nap on the couch, which was refreshing. Before we left to see Betty, Carolyn gave me this precious Mothers Day gift:

It's the trophy Betty and I won in the Ventnor Baby Parade of 1937.

For lunch, we went to Cody's Cafe, where I had a good salad. Then it was off to Villa Alamar to see Betty. She was, as I had seen before, confused and unable to clearly communicate, but she is not unhappy and that's what we must remember. Carolyn has had a mural painted on Betty's wall and it's so serene:

Here are the twinnies and their 88-year-old trophy;

We stayed about 45 minutes, then she drove me home.

Had dinner with Kathie and Keith and when I got home about 6:30, I was tired and actually fell on my bed and slept for two hours. Got up, watched T.V. for two hour, then slept through the night. I'm not sure why I felt so exhausted, but I suspect, emotional stress.

T.O.P.S. this morning and I don't feel like going, but I will.

Thursday, May 14, 2026

WEDNESDAY

I've decided to start anew, turn over a new leaf, and reform my life for the better--or something. As noted before, I skipped breakfast and went back to sleep after a wakeful night. Dressed and did some chores until Ellen picked me up at noon and off we went.

First we went to Lowe's where El got a number of items for her house--curtain rods and so on. She just bought a new T.V., too, and Greg will help her set that up. I looked for a kitchen towel rack, but didn't see anything I wanted, so will look again on-line.

After, we went to Wood Ranch for lunch. We both had big salads--El barbeque, I Asian--which were, as always excellent. I asked El to stop at the bank so I could get dimes for Bingo and she did. She dropped me off after a fun day and I went immediately to the multi-purpose room for dime Bingo. Didn't win a one.

Dinner with Keith, Kathy, and LaVerne. It was pizza and pretty good. I told them I may or may not be going down to breakfast and certainly won't be here for lunch today, as Carolyn is picking me up and we're going to go to Santa Barbara to see Betty, a melanchony prospect.

I had again been restless overnight, and just got up at eight something. Skipped breakfast, as Carolyn said we'll have lunch before Villa Alamar and Betty. I'll ask C. to stop at CVS first so I can pick up my medication.

TUESDAY

As soon as I dressed, I stripped the bed and took the sheets to the laundry. After I put them in the dryer, I did a load of regular clothes. Had the usual breakfast with Keith and a nap after. I can't even remember what I did until lunchtime, but when I went down, I didn't see Keith and Kathie had called to say she wouldn't be here for lunch. Sat with Trudie and Carol, Ruth and Stan.

At 2:00, I went down to play dime Bingo; had my usual four cards, but again, didn't win a single game. Back in the apartment, I finally looked at papers to be filed--AAGH! There was such a stack of them, from receipts for co-pays and so on, to T.O.P.S. lists, to miscellaneous scraps--it was a daunting task. However, I got it done, although there are still a few things I have to go through.

Kathie didn't show for dinner, either, so Keith and I were on our own. We had some interesting discussions about murder, capital punishment, and the Readers' Digest. Back upstairs just after 6:00.

Mike, now in Hawaii for Vivian's graduation ceremony, Messaged me this picture:

How I wish I could be there.

I had a terrible sleepimg again--was up periodically all night. My alarm rings at 6:30, but I'm almost never still asleep by that time. I was this morning and I promptly decided to skip breakfast and go back to sleep--which I did until 8:30. Now I feel good and may decide to make that my routine--dunno at this point.

MONDAY

After breakfast, I took my hour nap, then went downstairs to the Balance Class with Jackie. It was good to be there, except that I get annoyed with Jackie, She spends the first ten minutes or so (it seems like ten hours) talking about her daughter and others in her family. Geez, she's as bad as some of our residents.

After that, I went up to do various small chores in the apartment, then virtuously spent five minutes on the cardio bike. Lunch with Kathie, Keith, and La Verne, after which there was a fire drill and we assembled outside. Those who were unable to use the stairs, though, had been told to stay in place, which some did. Chef Michael was kind enough to carry my walker down and up the stairs; I can descend and ascend myself, so no prob.

I fooled around with this and that until 4:00, when our Second Players Zoom meeting was held. It lasted an hour and we discussed a lot about the tribute to Carol show we're doing on June 28. Went down to dinner after with Keith and LaVerne; Kathie was nowhere to be found, which surprised me. The dinner entree was a turkey wrap and potato salad, both of which were very good. Of course, I had my reglar iced tea with it.

Ellen called and we made plans for tomorrow when we'll have an outing. We'll probably go to Lowe's and get me a kitchen towel holder, then lunch out.

SUNDAY: MOTHERS DAY...

...and it was a fun one. I went to the special brunch at 10:00 and had eggs Benedict, which were excellent. Sat with Lisa and David, as neither Keith nor Kathie were there. Ellen and Greg came at 11:30, Ellen bringing me a beautiful bouquet of roses and Greg, Diane Keaton's autobiography:

After hanging out for a bit, we went to town for lunch at Lure Fish House. It was jammed, but we had only fifteen minutes to wait, then were seated. I was so full from brunch that I ordered only raw oysters and a cup of clam chowder. Of course, I had a frosty IPA with the meal.

After lunch, we strolled around town and stopped in a few shops before heading home. I had received phone calls and Mothers Day wishes from my other childen, along with a fun gift: a gift card for a wash, cut, and blow dry right here at the salon--tip included. My niece, Joan, called from Brooklyn with holiday wishes and it was fun to talk to her.

We got back to my place about 4:00 and Ellen and I proceeded to deal the cards for gin rummy while Greg napped on the sofa.  Ellen beat me miserably, but that's nothing new. While we were engaged in our battle, Mike called from Singapore and we enjoyed talking to him. Saw Violet for just a few minutes to say hello, as she was about to leave to take year-end exams.

El and Greg left about 5:00 and I went downstairs to join Keith, Kathie, and LaVerne for dinner. It was fried shrimp along with sides and, being stuffed from lunch, opted for the shrimp only, which was pretty good.

Another poor sleeping night. I'm going to have to concentrate on increasing my exercise from here on in.

SATURDAY

...and an adventurous day: After breakfast with Keith, I napped, then about 10:30, took my courage in my hands, geared up my walker, and boarded the 10 bus to the transit center!  I've been apprehensive about it, since I had never ridden the bus with the walker, I had always usedmy cart. This went completely smoothly, though: The driver lowered the ramp, I strolled on, and off we went.

I bought a jacket and a set of sheets, along with some small pans at the Bargain Box, then ate the other half of my wrap and drank my water at the center of the mall. Went back to the bus depot, got the 10 back, and was home in time for dime Bingo. I didn't win, but stayed for Trivia, then had dinner with Kathie, Keith, and Diane.

Home, I set up my meds for the week; I was dismayed to find I was out of the one for my BP; texted Express Scripts to be sent more. Showered and washed my hair, then played games on the laptop, watched t.v. for a bit, and turned in.

It's Mothers Day, Ellen and Greg are coming at 11:30 and we're going to Lure for late lunch or early dinner--YAY!

FRIDAY

Breakfast with Keith, but I had just a few bites of my scrambled eggs and toast before I excused myself and went up for my nap. I slept for two hours and felt a hundred percent better when I got up. Ellen called to say a crown she had had put in recently had slipped out, so she had to go to the dentist before she picked me up. She did, had it fixed, and still got here in time to be at Carillo Cardiology at noon.

The nurse did an EKG and it seemed okay. Other than that, there was good news and bad news. The good: I do have AFib and a murmer, but they seem stable. The bad: Alcohol, it seems, is not good news. I asked, "Well, nothing wrong with just one IPA a day, right?" "Wrong. drink no more than one a week." Darn. But I'm going to adhere to that. Ellen and Greg are taking me to Lure for breakfast and I'll have one there, then no more until Sunday next.

Besides a sweet Mothers Day card, Ellen brought me this tomato plant:

It's just what I wanted and I can't wait to sink my teeth into the lush red fruit.

El and I went to the Hill Street Cafe, where I had a turkey and veggie wrap and to drink, a diet coke. Back at my place, we chatted a bit, then El left and I went downstairs to have dinner with Keith, Kathie, and LaVerne.

Happily, although I was wakeful for a time, I slept okay last night and just got up at 6:10; I hope this lasts.Tomorrow is Mothers Day and I'm looking forward to lunch--dinner?--with El and Greg at Lure.

THURSDAY

After breakfast with Keith and Ray, I took a nap, then cleared up some things in the apartment.  Had lunch with Kathie and Keith, then resumed my chores.

I got a lovely Mothers Day gift from son Mike: a vining plant I can't wait to have climbing over my porch railing:

Lunch with Keith and Kathie, then I finally tackled a lot of the items I had put off. Collected a lot of things to discard and put them in the laundry room to be trashed. Wrapped my Japanese grandson's graduation present--long overdue--then went down to dinner.

Ate with Keith, Kathie, and LaVerne and dinner was pretty good--French dip and veggies. Unfortunately, I had a terrible time sleeping--I'll certainly take a nap after breakfast before Ellen picks me up at 11:30 for the cardiology visit. I'm not looking forward to it, that's a cinch.

WEDNESDAY

Breakfast with Keith, plus Allan and Beverly.. After, I took an hour's nap, then packed up my laptop, keyboard, and mouse, and went downstairs to have Rick take me in the van to Ubreakwefix. The guy there told me the "adjuster" inthe keyboard was missing and needed to be replaced. I thought I may have one, but didn't find it when I got home. Not sure, but I may want to buy a new keyboard.

Lunch with Keith and Kathie, then I went to dime Bingo and stayed after for trivia. By that time, it was almost the dinner hour, so I went up to get my IPA. Keith and Kathie's table was occupied by Dyan and sonebody else I don't remember, so I sat with Trudy and her group. I enjoy their conversation, info about their backgrounds and so on, so that was fine.

I got a sweet card from Ellen (I'll see on Mother's Day) and a beautiful vining plant from Mike. Took a shower, still happy with my shower mat, then watched t.v. and turned in.

Slept badly, I'm afraid, but will try to avoid a nap.

TUESDAY

Keith and I were surprised and pleased when Kathie, making good on her promise, joined us for breakfast. After, I took a quick nap, thten boarded the Access to Ojai. Got to Ellen's about 11:30 and we left shortly after to walk tfo the clubhouse. The Cinco de Mayo celebration was in full swing and there was a good spread catered by Famous, a local outfit. I was pleased to be introduced to a number of Ellen's new friends and had a good time chatting with them.

El and I had planned to go out to look for a pan or pot for me, so I could utilize my new burner, but I was so tired, I suggested we skip that and visit for a bit. El was fine with that, and poured us both a Margarita, and we talked away. After a bit, she got the Blokus game and cards out and we played Blokus and gin  rummy.

After a fun day, I got the Access Van back and stopped in the dining room. Dinner was just about over, but I stopped to say hello to Keith, then took my Asian salad up to my apartment. Ate it with my daily IPA after I took a load of whites to the laundry room.  Finished dealing with it by 8:00, watched the rest of a Grace Kelly documentary, then fell into bed, and--YAY!--slept the sleep of the just.

MONDAY

Finally, I seem to have gotten some control over the laptop. However, it's now 1:37 am on Tuesday morning: I woke up an hour ago and can't seem to get back.

As for yesterday, I had breakfast with Keith and Ray, then napped, and Susan picked me up at 11:15 for Soaring Spririts lunch at the Stone Fire Grille. Gayle, Renees, Glenda, and Grendall came and we had a good time. We were delighted to be told that Vera will be here on April 24, coming in from Oregon.    Susan is a dog lover; her license:

And here she is in her doggy sweat shirt:

It's hard to believe she's 66 years old.

Dinner with Keith, Kathie, and LaVerne. Called the Access Van to take me to and from Ellen's today. I'm looking forward to it, but wish I had been able to get more sleep. Also requested The Ochard van for tomorrow and will have Rick drive met to Asuion to get this damn laptop checked.

SUNDAY

Breakfast, as ever, with Keith. Took my nap after, then cleaned up a bit until time for lunch. Had that with Kathie, Keith, and Leila; the main dish was jambalya and it was pretty good. Leila is a champion talker--there are so many here--and we heard all about her late husband, children, and grandchildren.

Futzed around after, then went down to Bingo; I won two, but this wasn't dime Bingo; I just got some funny money for my wins. I stayed around for Yahtzee. Volunteer Cindy is somehwhat of a bossy type, but okay; only Beverly, Mary, Keith, Carol, and I particiated.

Back upstairs, I got a call from my brother, Larry, asking about the medic alert device I wear. It seems he again fell, couldn't get up, and didn'thave his phone nearby. Luckily, he wasn't badly hurt, plus one of his children came over, but he was on the floor for about an hour. I told him the particulars---name of the company (Connect America), and so on--and his daughter will look into getting onne for him.

Dinner with Keith, Kathie, and LaVerne. I was meatloaf and pretty good and we had some enjoyable conversation. K dan something wrong eith the keyboard must check,

Neice Carolyn called and we had a good long talk. We made plans for her to pick me up on Thursday, April 14, then take me to see Betty. Ellen called and we confirmed out plans to meet tomorrow.

Sunday, May 03, 2026

SATURDAY

Before breakfast, I stripped the bed and took the sheets to the laundry room.  Transferred them to the dryer before eating with Keith and Ray, then retreived them and remade the bed; took a short nap. Assembled my medications in preparation for setting them up for the week.

Kathie called to say she was skipping lunch, so I sat with Trudie, Carl, Carol and Stan. Had the turkey burger, as the main dish with beef didn't appeal to me. I heard--once again--the saga of Trudie's and Carol's children. Interestingly, Carol's son married a Japanese woman, with whom had two sons; they lived in Tokyo, where he was an electrical engineer. Unfortunately, he died at forty of cancer.

Set up my medications for the week after lunch, then went down to dime Bingo. I had my usual four cards and won two games. I stayed after to hear Frederick, the pianist, play a variety of stage and movie tunes--very enjoyable until his "tribute to the armed forces," with the traditional war propagandistic songs. I simply sat there silently and didn't react at the end. Of course, the rest of the audience showed their support for killing with enthusiastic applause...okay, lecture over.  Here's Frederick:

Got an email from Suzy about our upcoming show (June 28), still very much in the planning stages. I hope she calls a meeting soon, so players can nail down the stucture and decide what to include.

Dinner with Kathie and Keith, before which I put in a wash of just regular clothes. Put them in dryer after and got them later. My former neighbor, Lorraine, called and we caught up with each other. She moved to Camarillo about the same time I moved here.

Mike Face-timed me and we had a good chat. Violet is studying for exams which should lead to her reception of an "International Baccalaureate." This is a a program that King Charles once had something to do with--not sure what.

I put down the new non-slip shower mat and it works wonderfully. It looks like a large square of steel wool, but is soft and actually feels good. Ellen has been worried about me falling in the shower, but this is a 100 percent improvement. I'm still very careful about holding on and so on, but am so glad I got this.

FRIDAY

Weight: 139.6 at home, so no change; 140.6 at T.O.P.S, so up .05. Not too bad, as I had expected worse. Meeting was rambling, as ever, but okay. Maryann left early, as planned, and Cheryl took me to CVS to pick up my meds. I was annoyed that the Ramipril was sent to the other CVS, but the pharmacist at this one made me up another. Home a little after 10:00 and I decided I'd wait until lunch to eat.

Did so and sat with Kathie, Keith, and LaVerne. After, there was a "celebrations meeting" where residents suggested new activities and themes. I suggested the servers be introduced by Chef Michael when he gives daily talk at dinner and Mindy liked the idea. We talked about a few other ideas and suggestions and it was a good meeting.

On-line, I ordered from BevMo some of the IPAs I enjoy; incredibly, they were delivered forty-five minutes later. There's a ten dollar fee, plus tip, but considering the hassle it is for me to get there and get the buy home, it's well worth it.

At 3:00, I went upstairs to the salon to get a manicure. Elika did a great job on my often-breaking nails, plus I have fun talking with her. She had her eleven-year-old son with her and showed me pictures of her two daughters--beautiful girls aged 18 and 15 and we had a long talk about the fun--and frustrations--of child raising. I was tickled when she show me the flyer circulating at The Orchard:

Those are my hands and that's the last manicure Elika gave me! I've greatly enjoyed showing it to my fellow--and sister--residents.

I didn't see either Kathie or Keith, so had dinner with Barbara, Trudie and Carl, Carol and Stan. As usual, we had some good conversation and laughs.

I slept well and just got up at 6:30. Stripped the bed and took the sheets to the laundry room where they're now sloshing around.

I do Wordle, Connections, and Blossom every single day and yesterday, for the first time in almost three years (December 11, 2023), I got Wordle on my first word. It was "plume"; the earlier one was "chain."

THURSDAY

Breakfast with Keith and Rambling On Ray sat down with us. After, I took my hour nap, then went down to wait for Rick to drive me to Von's and CVS. He did and I got--almost--everything I needed, including B12, Ny-Quill, cream sherry, and Mother's Day cards for my daughters and DILs. I called to be picked back up at noon, but somehow, the message didn't get through and I had to wait for about a half-hour. That meant I was late for lunch, but no prob, as I had plenty of good leftovers from The Lazy Dog and I ate that in my apartment. I then realized I had forgotten to pick up my meds at CVS--damn!

Filled out and mailed the cards for my daughter-in-law in Japan and ex-DIL in Singapore. I don't even recall what all I did after that except play Jewel Royale Match. I dd call Maryann to be sure she's pick me up for T.O.PS. this morning--sure, but she has to leave early, so I called Cheryl to ask if she'd take me home and stop on the way to get my meds. Yes, she will, and I'm lucky to have such friends.

Called manicurist Elika and she'll do my manicure at 3:00 today.

Dinner with Keith, Kathie, and Dyan and we had some interesting talk. Keith, of course, takes piano lessons and Dyan mentioned that Brian Wilson, of Beach Boy fame, had given her his white piano to hold for him--I don't remember the circumstances. She also said her mother had been the pianist at a silent film theatre. I asked when her mother was born and she said 1917. Later, I looked up infor on when the silent movies faded out in favor of talkies: 1930, so her mother would have been 13. Of course, there were still a few playing, I guess, until the last which I read was in 1936, so I suppose it's possible.

T.O.P.S this morning and I'm not looking forward to getting weighed, but I'll take my medicine.

Thursday, April 30, 2026

WEDNESDAY

Breakfast with Keith and Dyan, then Ray joined us. After, I straightened up the apartment a bit, as we had been notified the annual inspection would be conducted that day. I lay down for a nap, but before I fell asleep, my friend, Lora, called from Arizona. We had a good talk and caught up with each other. I hope to see her when she comes here in August.

Vickie picked me up at 10:30 and off we went to Oxnard. We asked the aide to bring Jim and and he did. Jim was washed, clean-shaven, and well dressed, and I was pleased to see a Happy Birthday balloon:

...plus a birthday cake had been provided:
Jim had already eaten and I passed on a piece, but Vickie indulged. I gave Jim his present (the book on opera), which he seemed to appreciate:
We stayed until noon, then said goodbye. We assured Jim we'd be back and next time, I'll bring lunch for the three of us.

Vickie and I then went to The Lazy Dog for our lunch, and sat outside. I had a yummy Loco Moco Hawaiian dish, which, coincidently, had been on the menu at The Orchard for lunch. V. dropped me off about 2:30, after a very enjoyable outing.

Went down to the new residentt rceception at 3:00 and "met" LaVerne and Michael, plus ondulged in a strawberry Margarita. Back upstairs at 4:00 and fooled around on the laptop. Dinner with David and Lisa, and just hung out after. Slept fairly well and just got up at 5:30.

Wednesday, April 29, 2026

TUESDAY

I was surprised to see Cheryl sitting with Keith for breakfast, but sat down with them. However, the table was the one that got direct sunlight, which bothered my eyes, so I moved and sat with Trudie and Carl. Carol was also there, back from her trip, and she regaled us with travel notes.

Took my after-breakfast nap, futz around, then had lunch with Kathy, LaVerne, and Dyan. After, six of us boadered The Orchard van went off to Bart's Books in Ojai. We were there for about two hours and--I must be nuts--I bought fifty-two dollars work of books--six of them, ranging from murder to philosophy. For Jim's birthday, which is today, I included for him a book called Opera, The Impossible Art, which I hope he'll like.

Vickie called to confirm our visit to Jim today; she'll pick me up at 10:30, we'll visit for a bit, then go out to lunch. I'm going to try to make it a fairly short visit.

Dinner with Kathie and Keith, which was pleasant, as ever. Upstairs, I found a notice at my door that inspection would be conducted today between 10:00 and 4:00; I won't be here during some of that time and that's fine by me.

Had a difficult time sleeping, so will nap after breakfast and before Vickie picks me up.

Tuesday, April 28, 2026

MONDAY

Breakfast, as usual, with Keith, then my (now also usual) hour nap. At 10:00, I went down to Balance Exercise with Jackie. Ellen called after and we had a long talk, mostly about her conviction that I should hire an aide to drive me places, be here when I take a shower, and otherwise help out. I said I'd consider it and I will, but I'm not sure how I would utilize the person or, more worrisome, how I'd adjust. I also told her about Ani's complaints about INSS and sent her a copy. El will call them and tell them to disregard my application, which she had submitted.

Lunch with Kathie and Dyan, plus Ron, whom I hadn't met before. Dyan  is my  next-door neighbor and Ron lives just after her, so we're in a row on the second floor. He seemed okay, although pretty reticent.

After lunch, I called Community Memorial; I had just gotten a bill for $600, which I had paid several weeks ago on April 16.. The person acknowledged that and said it had been sent on the fifteenth. Well, I got it two days ago, which illustrates the sorry state of our postal system--or lack thereof. Anyway, she said to disregard, which I surely will. Priinted out Ani's lament about INSS and will give it to Kathie today to give her daughter.

Had dinner with Trudie, Carl, and Barbara. We had a good long discussion about how we met our husbands and significant others, then Trudie mentoned Yasso Greek yogurt popsicles and offered to give me one. I accompanied them to their apartment and received it. Also was treated to an array of Trudie's framed needlepoint on the walls--very attractive.

Showered and washed my hair before settling down to my hour of T.V.

Monday, April 27, 2026

SUNDAY

After breakfast, I took a nap for about an hour and a half, hoping that won't affect my sleep time at night. Didn't do much after except compluter games, until it was time to go down to lunch. Sat with Kathie, Catherine, and Dyan and enjoyed it. Back upstairs, I sent birthday wishes via Facebook, to Jen, my great-grandsons' mother.

I then took a big load of wash to the laundry room. Once I put it in the dryer, I went down to join an inpromptu Bingo game. I played my usual four cards and won two games. This wasn't dime Bingo--winners simply got "funny money" to use at the little Saturday store.

Retrieved my wash, dried, folded and put, then assembled my meds for the week and got them in the daily containers.

Dinner with Kathie, Keith, and Dyan, which was pleasant. Upstairs before 6:00 and I watched the end of Lake Erie Murders, then turn in and slept well.

Sunday, April 26, 2026

SATURDAY

Ray joined Keith and me for breakfast again and we heard the never-ending story of his slojourn in the Mercent Marines--counldn't wait to escape. Just hung out with this and that until lunch, which I had with Kathie and Keith. I showed Activities Director Mindy the pictures I had taken at the India gathering on Thursday and she asked me to text them to her, which I did.

Went to dime Bingo at 2:00 and actually won a game (I made about a buck twenty) and enjoyed it. Stayed for Trivia--which attracted just the other Kathie, Trudie, and me, then Just hung out after until it was time for dinner. I joined Trudie and Carl for that; Trudie does tend to go on and on about her daughters, but I like her and have no problem with it.

Called Vickie and we decided to go see Jim on Wednesday. First, though, I'll have to call the place where he lives and make sure it's convenient. Both Vickie and I have commitments later that day, so we'll go in the morning and not stay for lunch.

I received another interesting communication from Community Memorial Hospital: They want another six hundred bucks for my stop there in January. Wait a minute, I already paid them, so what gives? I'll call them tomorrow and find out.

Saturday, April 25, 2026

FRIDAY

Tiny lossers at home (.04 down to 139.6) and T.O.P.S. (.08 to 130.1), but that's better than up. Meeting was okay and I was home by 10:00. Tried to nap, but got up without doing so.

Lunch with Kathie and Allan and Beverly sat down with us. Keith came in late, so sat elsewhere. Lunch was good: Baja fish with rice and vegetables. After, I went outside to sit at the clubhouse patio. This is where I used to call Muckie and I had a terrific desire to talk to her. That's no longer possible, I know, and I feel so sad about it. However, I pulled myself together and called Pat Kennedy Hayes and we had a lovely chat. She's doing okay and it helped me so much to hear that.

Back in my apartment by 3:30 and called Bobbi, to whom I haven't spoken for months. I enjoyed so much talking to her and want to visit next week. Both she and her husband are suffering from cancer and she has lost an enormous amount of weight, so I know she won't be around long and want to visit with her while she still is. Told her I'd call her next week and we'll set a time I can visit.

Went to the Taj Mahal video and Indian happy hour, which was fun. We saw a documentary on India and the Taj Mahal and Mindy's friend, Delsei, who is Indian, was at the gathering. She dressed Mndy in a very attractive sari and Elaine was also dressed in Indian-ish clothing:

Elaine, Mindy, and Delsie
Lisa was there, too, and had had her hands decorated with whatever it is that Indian women wear on their hands:

I was asked if I wanted the same, but opted out. I did, though, get a round decorative symbol on my forehead, which was fun to have:

Dinner with Kathie, Keith, and Dyan, which was enjoyable. I was glad I hadn't napped because that meant I would probably sleep well at night...and I did. Just got up at 6:15, which is a good time for me.
No plans for today, but I'm going to walk, at least around the complex. Also, we have dime Bingo at 3:00--YAY

Friday, April 24, 2026

THURSDAY

A nothin' much day: Breakfast with Keith and Ray, the talker, joined us. We again heard all about this Mercent Marine days of fifty or so years ago, and blah, blah, blah. I lay down for my morning nap after and, unfortunately, forgot to set the alarm. When I woke up, I was stunned to see it was almost lunch time--I had slept for two hours.

However, lunch was good. I didn't see Kathie and sat with Trudy, Carl, and Barbara. It was India day and we had chicken wings tantoori for appetizers, butter chicken and Indian sides for the entree, and a dessert made with rice and pistachios for dessert (I didn't indulge). To accompany, wine and beer was served and I had a Blue Moon.

After, I finally settled down to type up the T.O.P.S. roster, which I promised Lennie I'd do two weeks ago. Unfortuately, though she has asked me to make 8 copies, I did only three, as my lousy printer has been giving me problems. The paper jammed and it took me time to fix it; it's also been dimming out some lines, so the hell with it--others can copy if they want to.

Before dinner, I took a little walk, first outside around the campus. It was beautifully sunny, but a little too cool and breezy for my taste, so I went inside. and walked the circuit of two floors. It probably totalled no more than a half-mile, but I guess that's better than nothing.

Called Kathie to see if she was coming to dinner, but no, she was exhausted after a day with her daughter, so said she'd come to breakfast. I had forgotten I won't be there, as I have T.O.P.S. Oh, well, presumably, I'll see her at lunch.

Had dinner with Beverlee and Greg, as well as Dottie, whose name, I'm afraid, seems to describe her. She's really a bit goofy, but nice enough. We had some enjoyable conversation, even so. Back in my apartment, I just played my games until T.V. time at 8:00.

I am not optimistic about my weight loss progress--or lack thereof--but will endure the meeting. And darn, I slept poorly, just as I had feared. Okay, I'll nap after T.O.P.S. and before lunch.

Thursday, April 23, 2026

WEDNESDAY

Breakfast with Keith, after which I took my usual nap until it was time to wait at the entrnce for the arrival of the Access Van. It came about 10:40 to take me to Ellen's in Ojai. We chatted and caught up with each other until time to leave for town. First, we went to the post office to send off my graduation presents for Vivian and Violet, then to the Hip Vegan, where we met Greg for lunch.

I was somewhat surprise to see Ellen and Greg embrace (after he and I hugged), as the romance and engagement ended some time ago. Something tells me a little spark might be happening and I couldn't be more pleased. However, Ellen refused to confirm or deny, but I have my suspicions...

Anyway, I enjoyed lunch with the two of them, after which Greg went to his job at the Rainbow Bridge. El and I went to Rains Department Store and I used the gift card Greg had given me for Christmas to get some little items for possible gifts. We went back to meet Greg at his work and the three of us sat outside during his break to chat.

After, El and I went thrifting, although there are only two in Ojai. She bought some small items for the new neighbors and I got a skirt and four birds on spikes, which I'll put in the flower pots on my patio. We topped off our shopping with a stop at Von's, where I got lemons, IPA, and TUMS.

We then went back to Ellen's to play gin rummy--she beat me by a wide margin, but only because she  cheats (kidding!).  The Access Van came at 6:15 and off I went home after a very enjoyable day.

TUESDAY

LaVerne joined Keith and me for breakfast. She's new, has been here only three weeks. I'm afraid she tends to be a bit of a bore; lectures and so on, but I guess better than some.

Back at my place, I napped, then Blanca and her cousin, Bianca, knocked on my door, Bianca there to cut my hair. She did, in the next hour, and I like it a lot:

I don't think you can get the full effect here, but I think it really looks good.

LaVerne joined us for lunch, also; Keith was at his men's club, but Kathie and Dyan made up the quartet. Lunch was very good, ground turkey and veggies in a large taco shell. After, Uber took me to Second Wave Physical Therapy and I had a vigarous and good session.

Home after 3:00, which meant I missed dime Bingo, darn it, but it'll run again on Thursday. Called Kathie to see if she was coming to dinner, but she wasn't, so I ate with Trudie, Carl, Barbara, as well as Carol and her husband. Looking forward to being with Ellen today.

MONDAY

Ray joined Keith and me for breakfast, which meant we had to listen--again!--to his interminable account of his adventures in the Merchant Marines. I had put a white wash in earlier, so--after quickly eating my poached egg--was able to excuse myself to put them in the dryer, Napped after, then retreived them, folded, put away, then played Jewel Match Royale and did a few household chores until lunchtime.

I knew Keith had doctor appointments back to back, so sat with Lisa and David, then Kathie joined us. After, I sat outside at the clubhouse enjoying another pleasant sunny day. Called Mary Hoffman when I got home and we had a good talk. She and her sister still live at Shalom House in Margate, although in separate apartments.

I finished wrapping Vivian's and Violet's secondary graduation gifts and will ask Ellen to take me to the P.O. to send them when I see her tomorrow.

Susan texted me asking if she could pick me up fof S.S. dinner at the Stone Fire Grille and yes, she can and she did. We left at 5:15 and had a great time. Grendal and Renee joined us and we carried on a fun and funny conversation that included former husbands, sex (but not graphic references), and our teenage peccadillos. Home at 8:30--I'm getting to be a dirty stay-out--bed an hour or so later and I slept well.

SUNDAY

Early on, I stripped the bed and took the sheets to the laundry to put them in the wash. Before breakfast, I put them in the dryer so they were finished once I came upstairs again, at which point, I remade the bed.

Dyan joined Keith and me for breakfast, then At 3:went out to walk Della. I went back to my apartment, took a nap, and before I knew it, it was time for lunch. Sat with Keith and Kathie, but skipped the main entree--meat loaf and sides--in favor of a turkey sandwich. It was so big I took half home to eat later.

After, I took my hat, sunglasses, and book, and sat outside for forty-five or so. Came in and assembled my medications, RX and OTC, which takes a fair amount of time. One of these days, I'll count the total, but it's too depressing to think about right now.

At 3:00, I went down to play Yahzee. Besides Cindy, the volunteer leader, only Beverly and Keith were there. Didn't win, but it was a fun diversion.

Dinner with Trudie, Carl, Barbara, and Carol, and we had some fun discussions. Carol's from Brooklyn, as is her husband, whose name I can never remember; as a rule, he doesn't join in the conversation.

Went upstairs to my apartment and Ellen called to invite me to come over on Wednesday and we'd go out for lunch, then we'd visit a few shows and she'd make dinner. Great and I'll call the Access Van today.

Mike facetimed me and we discussed the two graduations and other famly info. Watched some T.V. after, then turned in and slept okay.

WEDNESDAY

Katherine picked me up for the BCNN meeting at 8:55 and off we went to Oxnard. The program was on "preventing falls" delivered by...
