Star style: Frank Sinatra's penthouse

In 1957, after divorcing Ava Gardener, Frank Sinatra bought this 3000 square foot apartment at 530 East 72nd Street in New York City, which takes up the 22nd and 23rd floors of the building. Sinatra helped design the penthouse himself, which was completed in 1961. He lived there until 1972.

The penthouse has four bedrooms, six bathrooms, a wraparound terrace and a glass party room, from which guests have a view of the East River and the NY skyline. Andy Warhol once called the penthouse "the glittering grotto in the sky," where party-goers such as Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin, Marilyn Monroe and JFK were seen.

Sinatra sold the property to Andy Warhol's doctor Denton Cox. After his death in 2008, it was purchased by insurance executive Penny Hart for $2.3 million. She renovated the bathrooms and the kitchen and added a glass staircase, just like the ones in Apple stores, and put the penthouse on the marked for over $7 million in 2012, but there were no takers at that price. She eventually sold it for approxiately $2 million less.

Part 2: Staging a penthouse

The party  last night was a great success, and we're very pleased to have been invited to showcase our furnishings in one of the penthouses. The staging will remain in place until early September and will be shown to prospective tenants.

Here are photos of the finished space and the art provided by CADD, as well as photos of the party.

Part 1: Staging a penthouse

1400 Hi Line, a luxury high-rise in the Design District overlooking downtown Dallas, is having a grand opening party tonight, and two of the penthouses will be staged for viewing...one by us and one by Roche Bobois. Art by Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas (CADD) will be on display.

When we left around midnight, there were still a few things left to do, so it's back today for some finishing touches, but here's how the space looks so far. (That's Dallas from the 23rd floor in the background.) Special thanks go out to Dustin Orlando of Circuit 12 Contemporary and to friends Robert, Peter and Josh for all their help. You guys are the best!

I'll show you all the finished rooms tomorrow and maybe even a few Instagrammed party shots, even though I'll be home relaxing with the boys while my daughter and SIL meet and greet.
