Flow Blue Garden Quilt

I received this beautiful quilt as a gift yesterday~
Opened the box and almost fell over!
Sue Knapp (formerly O'Susannah's Quilt Shop)
O'Susannah's Upstairs Inn
Sent this to me!
Just have to share with you~
It is the first quilt that I own, made from fabrics that I designed!
Flow Blue Garden by Red Rooster Fabrics

Wrapped in love...

Dried up my joyful tears & saw the beautiful variegated
stitches in the shape of birds, butterflies, ladybugs...
I love every sweet detail~

I love quilts but do not machine sew~
I love to design fabrics & it is such an amazing feeling to
see all types of treasures made with those fabrics!

This one will always be treasured~

Patriotic Garden~

Having a little fun by adding red and blue ink~
This blue cotton has been a joy to sketch on!

Daisy patterns~

Each one with their own style!

Have seen butterflies early this year~
Do hope the Monarchs find their way back to our gardens!
I have let common milkweed grow up...
Going to add Asclepias tuberosa (Butterfly Mildweed) this year, too!

Everyone is planting their gardens, beds and flower boxes...
I always enjoy window boxes~ interesting combinations!

Special spots on special days~

So many people work so hard, give so much for our great country~
Will never forget all you have given,
So grateful for all you have done~

Hope your day is off to a great start, Sweet Friends!

Quilt label art~

I have been spring cleaning~
The biggest trouble with cleaning...
I always become distracted with lost treasures!!!

I "unearthed" oodles of vintage linens that I had washed & pressed!
(Put away where I KNEW they would be!)
Ha!

Once I had these all sketched and ready to add to my Etsy store~
I lost them AGAIN!
Further proof of how easily I become distracted around my studio...

My studio is small and cozy...
It should not become cluttered overnight~
Pretty sure my little friends play while I sleep!

Don't these two friends look a little guilty of mischief?

Here's to another day of sorting!
Wishing you joy~

Quilt Labels...

Our feathered friends have winter hats for these
chilly, chilly nights...

They dug out their winter woolens to prepare
for the fall snow storm...

We dug ours out, too!
Wondering what kind of winter we will have...
The lake is ready to serve up a few extra inches!

I have not started my Christmas shopping...
Summer road trips are typically good for a few treasures...
This year we found more scenic trips to take.

I added these quilt labels to my Etsy store~
I have mounds of original gift ideas/treasures to share...
Hope to add a few new pieces to my shop each day!

Hope your day is wonderful~

Quilt Labels...

When I saw this piece of fabric I fell in love!
I didn't know they were quilt labels...
They are the most beautiful vintage frames...
Just waiting for empty spaces to be filled!

The fabric frames so beautifully...

I'm thankful for the piece I found...
I have been searching for more~

The local quilt shops had a few labels...
They are Christmas theme!
They had never seen this fabric pattern.

This music frame was perfect for a songbird friend...

I'm still working on a few special orders...

We're enjoying the last few weeks of summer~
School will begin in two weeks...
That is when I will begin working on my watercolor calendars!
Deadlines this fall for the year 2014!
I will share pictures of my 2012 calendars in my next post.
The samples arrived last week and warmed my heart.

Hope your August days are sunny and peaceful~
Wishing you every joy!

Quilting... Vintage Patterns...

700 Olde Time Needlecraft
Designs & Patterns

Copyright House of White Birches, Inc. 1970

Many of my watercolor designs have been
made into the sweetest fabrics...
I have bins of samples!

Both of my sisters quilt and sew...

I love fabric...

I don't sew.

But when I find an AMAZING book like this
it becomes one of the best references I have.

I incorporate quilt patterns into many of my paintings.
(I'll show you some of my Birds & Stitches program next)

This book is from 1970
52 pages filled with similar, detailed images

I just wanted to share a peek in case you
ever see one listed on Ebay, etc.
I think it is worth it to try a little searching.

There are pages with complete directions
on how to make tatted trims, crocheted trims...
doily directions... crocheted edgings and
serviceable patterns...
embroidery...
applique...

Below are several vintage fabric/quilt pieces
that I just received as a gift from my cousins in Arizona!
Pretty sure she said they were from old flour sacks?
I'll double check on that...

...pretty little pieces
oh the owl & bird projects running through my mind!
They will require some hand stitching...
It will be worth it!

I just love the acorn pattern...

Happy stitching!
