Punch needle~ Chicks in the Tulip Patch

"Chicks in the Tulip Patch" copyright 2018 Michelle L. Palmer

Around the farm~
It is known when Momma Hen is spring cleaning!
Hen carefully tucks her baby chicks in tulip blossoms for safe keeping.
They enjoy the sway of the breeze and visit with passing bees!
Momma Hen will have new feathers tacked to the coop walls
when they return from their time in the garden~
Feathered friends stop by the coop throughout the winter to warm up.
They often lose feathers as they wriggle through the coop mesh...
It is always fun for them to identify bird friends & remember their visits.

A snippet from one of my stories inspired a sketch~
Sketch inspired a watercolor~ (Chicks in the Tulips have been painted several times)
I painted this watercolor in January & it inspired my punch needle piece.

Hope you're all staying strong and healthy & I hope some of your
winter days are sunny with blue skies~

Wishing you a creative weekend, Friends!

Needle felted Spring chicks!

Cities are preparing for their St. Patrick's Day parades...
So are my fuzzy little friends!

They want to add a little Springtime into our March!

They are cheery and bright yellow!

Some have fancy hairstyles!

Added these little loves to my Etsy shop...

Fields of daisies soon...
White 'stuff' from the blizzard will melt away and
nourish the wild flowers~

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Paper clay beaks tutorial...

It won't be quiet for long!
Little wool chicks are patient... but they have a lot to say!

Paper clay is easy, clean & light~
Once dry, it can be sanded & painted.

I have used Scotch Quick-dry Adhesive (acid free) for years.
It has a small tip. Doesn't make craft papers soggy... quick tack.
Little bit goes a long way & it holds great!

Made a little tinfoil tray for my beaks.
Muffins came out of the oven... I turned it off & put my beaks on the oven rack.
Closed the oven door.
By the time the oven cooled down my beaks were dry!

I only needed 6 beaks.
Fifteen minute job...
Once I started playing with the clay~ I couldn't stop!
So easily distracted!
Bunny heads are air-drying.
They are tinfoil balls covered with paper clay.

Hope your day has been wonderful~

New little friends in my 1st Etsy Shop!
Our feathered friends keep close to me when I'm fussing in the gardens~

She has to wear a hat like me!
Looks much sweeter on her~ (giggle!)

Off to the garden to plant!

With a little tip of the head~ "Hello, Dear Friend!"

All dressed up & teddy love is close by...

Sailing~ sailing~

Our daughter had a little strawberry outfit!
Didn't have leaves around the collar... but the bottom ballooned out~
It was bright red with little white tear drop polka dots!

Be sure to comment on my previous post for a chance to win
one of my "Earth Day Garden" prints~

Thank you for stopping by & sharing your day with me!

Bunting babies...

Little bunting sketches on my desk today...

I love to draw little hats on my sweet friends!
It has taken me a few years to feel comfortable in a hat...
Keeping the sun off my rosy cheeks has become a priority.
In another few years I'll be marching about fashioning an
enormous hat as if I had been born in one!
(giggle... let's hope)

Hope your week is off to a wonderful start!

Something for baby...

Sailing along in an enamelware cup...
Protected from the sun by a large daisy blossom~
Both friends so fuzzy and cuddly!

Early bird wide awake with the Morning Glories!
I found this garden pot years ago...
I use it as a reference to plop one of my babies in.

Ladybugs make the best of friends~
Mouse and Lady love the garden as much as I do!

Another garden pot that sits on my shelf...

Little bear is wide awake while the moon sleeps...
Our children didn't want to sleep when the moon was bright!

A bunny...
Forget Me Nots...
And one more bucket from my eclectic collection~

Sweet little miss nestled in~ one of my favorite tiny crocks!

I keep white seashells in this aqua crock...
There is a pale blue companion crock that I
have filled with smooth river stones~

I don't see the dust when I look at all of the misc.
goodies I have collected through the years...
They're nesting spots for my friends!

The next time you see a lone, little container sitting
on a shelf... picture your favorite friend inside!

Little Feathered Friends in Dresses...

These sweet little girls are in my Etsy store...
All dressed in little spring dresses!
I remember getting a new dress each Easter~
This little tomboy would clean up for one day each year!
Mom would dress my sister and I like twins.
(She is four years older than me)
Tall, thin... olive skin... hazel eyes...
My chubby cheeks are covered with freckles~
We're as opposite as they come!
The pictures look sweet... my oldest sister
made most of our Easter outfits.
I was always tickled to have a new stuffed bunny!
(Even more tickled when the dress was put away...)
These feathered friends seem to like
their little dresses~
Hope you like them, too!
Wishing you a wonderful week~
