This and That

Some weeks ago I showed you the Little Gems that I won at the Festival of Quilts. I decided that I would adapt one of them to use everyday when I'm sewing and turned it into a small pot to collect all my cut threads that usually end up on the floor.

The pot was quite simple to make. I took the Little Gem and put it right sides together and hand sewed with an overstitch (whip stitch?) and then flattened the sides out and squared the corners off so that the pot would stand up. I'm really pleased with the pot and it makes a very attractive addition to my sewing area instead of sitting in a drawer. Also it's collecting a wonderful array of threads which I'm going to use initially to decorate some paper beads I've been making.

I had a panic at the beginning of the week and set to to make this Ruby Doll for my niece's birthday which I thought was this week. Having made this little lady I realised this morning that her birthday is next week! Doh! Oh well, at least I'm ahead of the game. All I've got to do now is remember to post it! (It's ok, I don't think by brother and his family are into blogs. fingers crossed anyway. My niece is too young to read blogs but hopefully not too young to enjoy my Ruby Doll).

Today's Title is...

Posted by Picasa

I am part of a group that is reacting to a title provided by Helen over at Hebart. You can see other people's ideas over at 'Today's Title..' My Mum took this photograph on one of her days out and I really liked the shapes and colours of the old bottles. Some time ago I did a painting exercise with a selection of bottles in mixed media and I keep intending to translate the drawing into a textile piece.

~
Several drawings were made using the reflex/contour drawing technique and then the drawing above was made using different media, ink, oil pastel, chalk pastel and watercolour.
~

~
This image was made by preparing sheets of different textures using mixed media. The bottle shapes were then cut out and collaged in place and the background added with faux bottle shapes and added marks to pull it together (I think. Memory is a poor thing).

Maybe I could convert it into a Little Gem?

Happy Easter & Little Gems

Whatever you are doing this weekend and whatever your beliefs I wish you all a Happy Easter Holiday weekend and hope that you enjoy my spring collage.
~
If you have some time to spare maybe you would like to make a Little Gem for the Quilters Guild tombola which will be held at the Festival of Quilts this year. All the details can be found if you click on the Little Gems poster at the top of my sidebar, together with lots of examples of quilts that have already been made. Don't let the word "quilt" put you off, these are to have fun with and at only A4 size they are a chance to experiment and try something new. The more the merrier! Have I made any yet? Oops! You caught me! I've just started my first one so I'll post it up as soon as it's finished. Don't forget, you don't have to be in the Quilters Guild to join in. Little Gems are welcomed from anybody. Jump in and have some fun!
~
Have a great weekend and I'll see you soon.
