Sally Hansen Triple Shine: Blow Bubbles

I have another pearly polish from Sally Hansen's Triple Shine range to share with you, and quite appropriate for a Wednesday because it's pink!   For those Mean Girls fans who go by the motto "On Wednesday's we wear pink" this one's for you! Yes this week's making me go just a little bit silly...

Blow Bubbles is a medium pink pearl finish with blue undertones.  As with my Pool Party swatch this translucent formula took 3 coats to build up full opacity but the result was a streak free shimmery, subtly iridescent finish.  This one's a very unapologetically girly polish and suits the name Blow Bubbles because it has a very youthful, almost tween feel about it.

Fun fact:  these polishes actually contain natural crushed pearl.

Sally Hansen polishes are available from Woolworths, K Mart, Target, Coles, Chemist Warehouse and Priceline stores around Australia.

Sally Hansen Triple Shine: Pool Party

Now you know if I was going to buy some new nail polish I probably would have walked right past Pool Party and not given it a second thought.  Anyway thank goodness it was sent to me for review so I could see past my first impressions.  Never judge a nail polish by the bottle!

While Pool Party was not a typically 'me' choice looking at the bottle it translated to a beautifully flattering pastel aqua blue pearl on my nails.  The pearl finish did not streak at all and coverage was not quite as sheer as I thought either as I got this opaque enough for my taste in three coats.  I would love wearing this one in summer on fingers and toes.

The Face Shop: 17 Pearl Brown

It's been a few months since my rose gold makeup post and I finally got around to wearing another of my rose gold polishes.  As usual I'm wondering why I waited so long because I find rose gold to be a very flattering shade of gold for my skin tone.   Just another one of those really meaningful First World musings, huh?

This polish from Korean brand The Face Shop is simply labelled 17 Pearl Brown which is also a fairly accurate description.  Pearl Brown has a very strong satiny pearl finish which I think you either love or hate.  I used to really love pearly polishes when I was a teenager but then moved away from anything remotely pearly or frosty unless it was an edgy colour.  These days I guess I've softened towards pearl finishes again - well at least where it comes to rose gold as I found this a particularly pretty polish to wear.  If I must fault it, it's the tendency of a pearly polish like this to show up brush strokes, but it's only really obvious on one nail so more careful application would take care of that problem.  It's the usual two coats of colour on my nails here.

Vintage MAC polish: Ice Tease

The weather's turned icy down here in Melbourne and we had one month's rainfall just last night!  That very nicely leads me into today's MAC polish post:  Ice Tease.

This colour is quite unique in my collection as it's a matte iridescent (or duochrome? or multichrome?) pearl with a green/pink flash depending on what angle the light hits it.

Here are LOTS of pictures taken at different angles to give you the idea - please excuse the nubbins, I had a pretty bad tear on my index fingernail so they all had to go :(

Bottle shots first - So it's pink in the bottle....

No, wait, it's green...

Hmm...

And on the nails - with flash:

In full sun...

And finally, in the shade...

It took three coats of colour to achieve this coverage.  So pretty!

That's all for now.

Roughly Ruffian mani

It's been raining this afternoon so I've been playing around with my manicure.

I had an idea for a modified ruffian mani, using Ice Tease, an old white pearl shade from MAC as the base with Revlon's black creme polish Black Lingerie over the top.  This was then dressed up with two diamantes on each nail.  Now the theory was good but I'm afraid the execution was a little more ordinary.  A nail artist I'm not :(

Oh well, I might as well show you the result anyway.  I'm sure it would look great with a bit more care and a steady hand:

Until next time.

Some beautiful Xmas presents: Part 2

Hi again!

Now I thought I'd show a special little something I got from my husband .  Of course he knows my taste, so among other things, he bought me this beautiful little gold bag tag from YSL.  I'm not 100% sure on this but I believe it was a limited edition for Xmas 2010.

This lovely gold tag opens up to reveal a mirror and a lip palette consisting of two subtle lip colours.  One is a pink lipstick and the other a pearl lip gloss.  As you can see below I've already dipped into these and they are very quiet, understated colours:

Just ignore my middle-aged skin in this pic.  Next time I promise I'll swatch on the inside of my arm.  Beside that little distraction you can see that these colours are tres chic!  I LOVE YSL but that is a whole other story...

Until the next post

Vita :)
