i've been a brass maniac for years, as evidenced by this picture of my living room, circa 2006-7 (?), when i called my home the "brass menagerie" (it was also my mission at teh time to personally bring back the brass animal statue. i succeeded, btw ;-). the trend sort of took a while to take off after us early adopters embraced it,  but that has all changed. my recent trip to #hpmkt cemented that bold n brassy is here to stay! virtually every showroom had shiny brass and gold pieces on view (two standouts were bernhardt and celerie kemble for henredon).

it's just one week until high point market, and y'all may already be sick of me talking about it (don't worry- it's over soon), but personally i am ridiculously excited to be attending this spring. after not going for a year, i am seriously psyched to see my southern-based friends, as well as the friends who travel from around the country to be at furniture's fashion week.  oh, yeah- there's product too... ;-)

i'm pleased as punch to be part of this awesome group of tastemakers! international market centers has invited us to take over their instagram feed for a day, so you can see market through our eyes. i did this with IMC for vegas and it was tons of fun, so please follow along: @designonhpmkt and #designonhpmkt on instagram! i takeover the IG feed non saturday- probably on the night shift as i'll be on west coast time!

i'm also excited to be working again with my friends at 220 elm again this market. as i've mentioned a bazillion times, 220 elm is the spot for sleek, european modern and contemporary design in high point, so not to be missed (check out my friend cassandra's recent post for a taste). heinz kattenfeld, the big cheese at 220 is one of my favorite high point peeps and this year he has really gone out of his way to have a stellar roster of food, drinks, entertainment and seminars, as well as design available to high point attendees!

last, i can't wait to hang with my old friends at 214 modern vintage. i've known these crazy kids for years (we were brought together by our obsession for vintage modern furniture) and they really are stepping up the game to make high point market a destination for vintage as well as new product. you know how we decorators like to mix it up, so it really makes #HPMKT one-stop shopping! this spring's merchandise will be different of course but you can get a taste of the flavor they will be bringing here), PLUS they've expanded and added dealers this market!

black crow studios rules at #HPMKT! (and my "memphis" wallpaper is available to order on their website!)

i was super sad to miss out of fall market at high point for many reasons- i missed all my WONDERFUL friends who i look forward to seeing twice a year. i also missed all the great new introductions- i love being amongst the first to know about what's new 'n pretty! and most importantly, i missed out on a good friend making her high point debut: tracy's hiner did a kick ass installation of her black crow studios wallpaper at the cr laine showroom (i always need to use the phrase "kick ass" in a sentence when talking of my girl tracy,  cuz she is one of my favorite peeps). holly mckay blalock, the mastermind behind cr laine ( and another favorite peep) designed an entire room around tracy's dreamy watercolor wallpaper, and boy was it pretty:
 also throughout the showroom were canvases for purchase using tracy's same amazing watercolor prints- a great idea for those who love the black crow studios look, but don't want to make the commitment of an entire room! and luckily for y'all, they are now offered on the black crow studios website as well! and you know what else is now available on the black crows studio website? my "memphis" collection wallpaper, in 5 delicious colorways! finally, y'all can purchase by the roll!  yay!

NEW at high point market: 214 MODERN VINTAGE! #hpmkt

y'all have no idea how upset i am to be missing out on all the fun of the fall high point market- so many of my favorite peeps gathered to celebrate what's new and what's next in our industry.  i'm especially upset because if you know me, you know i loves my vintage modern, so when 5 of my friends from around the country (and some of the best vintage dealers out there) got together to open a store smack dab in teh middle of high point dedicated the finest in vintage modern furniture, art, lighting and accessories, and i found i couldn't be there to celebrate teh opening, i just done about lost my sh*t. so promise me you'll go in my stead and do some shopping for me? cuz seriously, i want just about everything in these photos!

AMAZING RIGHT?

the 214 modern vintage showroom is located at 214 e. kivett dr. in the heart of the market between IHFC and the hamilton-wrenn district- just around the corner from oly, and halo, and a few doors down from the new julian chichester showroom. they will be open during market 9-6 daily, with extended hours on friday and saturday until 8, when they might just pour you a glass of wine to soothe your aching feet. i really am friends with these fine folk, so if you mention my name, they will be extra nice to you, promise!

and so you can keep in touch with these awesome dealers after market is over and the 214 modern vintage showroom will only be open by appointment, the dealers are: steph schofield vintage home, tandem antiques and design, dinner party antiques, gillian bryce fine art and lewis trimble decorative arts- the best of the best on this list folks!

#HPMKT- a visit with w. schillig usa

(yup, two months later, i'm finally getting a chance to do a market recap post!)

ok, did you gasp like i did when schillig's US head guy, david stewart, walked on that gorgeous sectional?   i could hear my mom yelling at me to "keep off the furniture- if you want to play on something, go outside!" and trust, no damage was done- here we are chillaxing on the same sectional, moments later:

sturdy, yet comfortable!  the curved end cushions hugged me and didn't want to let me go... (and thanks to material girl jill seidner for taking some the pictures for this post!)

one thing i learned while visiting schillig (my sponsor for this april's market) was that not only is their furniture comfortable and stylish, it is all built like a tank... a precision, german engineered tank! i mean seriously, would you walk on your sofa? and schilling takes their german enginrering seriously! look at look at these details would ya?

i am cracking up here because there is a hidden button in the seams of the sofa cushions that controls the foot and headrests- i told you, this is german engineering at it finest!

yes, electronic controls mean the sofa needs electricity to be used, but you can still float schilling's pieces in the middle of the room because they are offered with battery packs, which are charged via this sleek lil chrome outlet. hawt.

all the visible working parts are chrome-plated and beautiful  no ugly clunky black metal mechanisms that should be kept hidden at schillig!

what is kept hidden is the amazing engineering inside every cushion....

even the top stitching is precise

just because it's well engineered, doesn't mean it's not stylish either. love the chanel inspired stitching  on this sofa.

not everything in the showroom is robot motion furniture- loved this simple cantilevered (and springy) breuer inspired chaise. this one wanted to come home with me, bad.

also loved these rocking chaises- available in single, double and triple seaters.

another piece that caught my eye was this bed with movable headboards, because sometimes you just have to float a bed in a room, and this will allow it to be done stylishly (and with versatility).

and how about this sectional which converts into a bed- or is it a bed that converts to a sectional?

whichever it is, it coverts hands free ,as david kicked it into shape!

and yes, i heard my mom yelling again- "don't kick the furniture!" ;-)
