Outre - "Tranquility"

Awesome and fairly technical thrashy black metal from Russia courtesy of Outre. Kick ass riffs and chords, vocals are a nice breed of thrashy blackened death, and the drums are full of double kickdrum assaults under really rad fills, rolls, and cymbal workouts. Get it.

Dominium - "The Incursion"

A perfect hybrid of black and thrash metal varieties. Everything that rules from both subgenres, turned up and melting into one another. Simple as that. Listen.

itSELF - "Make My Suffer Short"

Really not sure why they even bothered to include the "intro" "track" on this release, they should've just dived into the first track and ran that shit red for the duration of this otherwise incredible release. Deathy thrash, thrashy death - what do you care; death and thrash in the same sentence when referencing metal music on Magicore is a sure thing. So bend over, shut the fuck up, and take it like a wo/man gettin' it raw dog style.

V/A - "Relapse Records Winter 2012 Sampler"

Despite not fully harnessing the digital era, a lot of established metal labels are dipping their toes in to test the waters. The ever awesome Relapse Records has been on the forefront of keeping it real, in terms of physical product and such, as well as putting some feelers out with new media in the form of free podcasts/mixtapes and free samplers.

The winter 2012 sampler from the label comes packing heat with a ridiculous collection of material from artists on their roster this year, along with a sneak peak of what's yet to come. If you're familiar with the label, then you know what to expect. If you're not down with Relapse, I gotta question your dedication to metal music. Either way, cop this mammoth collection of free tunes including work from Pig Destroyer, Hooded Menace, Christian Mistress, Baroness, Weapon, Death, Dying Fetus, Murder Construct and more. Each and every band bringing it heavy and relentless.

In a word: essential.

Idol's Pague - "Angels To Some... Demons To Others"

I had the pleasure of randomly catching these guys here in Arizona the night before my birthday. I was looking for something to do, considering it was my birthday weekend, and couldn't find anything. I texted a few people here I know and it looked like I might not be doing anything cool for my birthday. Until one of them texted back (Hi, Christi!) and offered to take me to this dive bar she was a fan of. Sounded like as good an option as any, considering it was - as I mentioned - my birthday weekend and that I also love dive bars. Come to find out there were some bands playing, described as stoner/punk from one of the bartenders. I was down. A couple other bands played, and I enjoyed them - but I don't remember who they were, as I obviously didn't enjoy them all that much. But I remember Oakland's Idol's Plauge.

Idol's Plague play a pretty rad concoction of various types of metal. Especially cool is that they are as awesome as they are and there's only two members - a drummer and a guitarist/vocalist. With just the two of them, they hit the stage like a dual monolithic powerhouse not often experienced from even a more full and traditionally well rounded band. The drummer is super tight and on point, ridiculous shifts in time signature and tempo, then back again with cool fills and rolls executed perfectly. The guy responsible for vocal and guitar work is a nice one two punch in the gut, blood vessel bursting agonizing screams and riffs upon riffs all drenched in distortion and feedback.

The vocalist hung out with us for a bit after their set and talked shop. Cool motherfucker. I bought their CD and talked my own shop. He said it was cool if I ripped the CD and included it with a review, so that's fucking awesome.

Their bio or whatever from their Facebook page reads:

A creation inspired by the negligence and frustration of sitting still... By complacent, unchallenged ears and minds that provoke an excuse for us to explode frantically, spiritually, aggressively, without a second thought of tomorrow.

You get the picture. Super dope. If you get the chance, go check 'em out live. Until then, here.

Stripper Pussy-Pure Pussy

Raw, gritty, pulsing... like a filthy dick fucking a stripper's pussy. Well, the band is named Stripper Pussy, so kudos to them for being true to their name. DIrty synths conspire with mid ranged pitch screaming, distortion permeates the recordings, leaking from every component.Radio Therapy tagged them as Screamo, but there is little self absorbed whining here. Nasty, raw, and unforgiving. ch3k 1t!

ReDeMeR - SPRING INTO REDEMER!

Photobucket

Connie OH! and Thee Agitator rip shit up like no other. i saw them for the second time last night (the first time i had the honor of playing with them) and they seriously tore shit up. it was the only time the entire night when the crowd moved around, danced, thrashed, crashed, whatever. Thee Agitator has an insane drum kit, he uses a chain saw with it, and Connie has multiple synths, a computer, an awesomely painted guitar, and shredding vocal fx. this live recording gives you a shred of live experience, but even so, blows you away. PUnk Rawk synth fuck mAdnezZ.
