Killer swift blast of black grindy crusty deathy goodness for that ass by way of Trepanation. Free and brutal, like we all should be.

Daggra - "Daggra"

Magicore homie Phil from A Beautiful Lotus does vocals for this new project entitled Daggra. Relentless and agressive grindy goodness from front to back, some powerful riffs and tightly played drums paint the picture for Phil's vocals and together it's a masterpiece of heaviness. Check it.

V/A - Brokecore Forever

 photo a2471975754_2_zps27af8bcf.jpg

A fun romp through the extended Brokecore family. A Family that has been split up and gone through rough times, but has finally come back together in a tender embrace. The last Brokecore compilation was nigh on 7 years ago. The label has been pretty much on indefinite hiatus since. Now its back with a vengeance! 38 tracks of br00t41 nast'. Relative newcomer Mherdad kicks things off with a pretty straight forward breakcore banger, filled to the brim with breaks, edits, and gabber kicks. The following track by another newcomer, Freebase Frenzy, sounds as though Stuntrock himself (circa '00) took possession and kicked out the jams with his track "Mr Austin Tends To Get A Little Cranky If He Doesn't Get A Beer By Noon". The intensity never lets up. Whether its top notch noise blasts from the likes of Michigan's RedSK or evil chiptune anthems from Pittsburgh's very own Bit Mummy, you will not be disappointed. Evil Robot Ted, Brokecore's owner, known for his harsh digi noise pieces and broken breakbeat montages brings the finest, cleanest piece of Jungle/Drum n Bass I've ever heard from him. Ditching the standard noise pads for phasing melodies reminiscent of the raving early 90s and backing it up with varied, well edited amens provides a quite enjoyable listening experience. The track order is superb, songs often mixing very well into the following track. Evil Robot Ted's track runs perfectly into the mellow I DO NOT LOVE.'s "Come Back", subdued vocals harkening back to Joy Divisions haunting vocalist Ian Curtis coupled with a pretty electronic melody that slowly washes away in a sea of reverb and echo along with the rest of the song, a deep dark well of doomed synth pop. While there are many new names to the Brokecore roster introduced on this compilation, that doesn't mean there aren't a few old favorites in the mix either. Kindergarten Hazing Ritual, DJ Scratchin', and Helium Ointment all lend their talents. A joy to listen to, an honor to have had the opportunity to participate. Brokecore FOREVER!

Heartless - "Certain Death"

I was fortunate enough to win a prize pack of this release on clear, black, and test press 7" and am thrilled to let you all know you can have at least a digital version for free for yourself. You should throw them some dollars if you can, but throw some horns up to for nothing at bare minimum. Heartless on Halo Of Flies with some gnarly grindy hardcore shit that is angry and relentless. Fucking pummeling and brutal. Incredible.

Urtek - "We Hate"

I can't keep up with the Torn Flesh Records netlabel, this has been established. I've missed out on posting more than a handful of albums in at least 100 releases since my last post, no bullshit. What can ya do, non-stop ruling from the TFR camp. This shit here is from the Washington based grind outfit known as Urtek. The TFR post on Facebook describes them as "doomgrind" and that's pretty god damned accurate. Download and rip your face off to this!

Skinned Christ - "Lucifer"

Aside from this band's logo, which fucking rules, the music is pretty gnarly too. Mostly black metal, I have to mention I almost find it hard to believe it's not a one man black metal band. But, it says it's not, so I have to believe that I guess. The drums, especially, are throwing me off here, as most of the time they sound like a pretty cheap drum sampler running at top speed. There are some moments when there's a bit of real ingenuity in their programming/performance, but even the fact that they sound like I described them is not a downfall. The vocals are usually a pretty well executed black metal screech, but layered in there now and again are some really fucking killer guttural death metal growls. The guitars are probably the weakest aspect to the release, generally just not tuned right and run through the kinds of effects & distortion I usually prefer in this type of musical outing - but together, the whole thing works. Especially if you're typically into one man digital grind/black metal bands. Check it out, it's free & you need to worship Satan tonight. Friday night black metal ritual, fuckers.

Haut & Court - "La Vie"

French hardcore from Haut & Court on their "La Vie" release, packed full of short and sweet numbers that are filled to the brim with brutality and ingenuity. The guitar workouts on "Colision" are absolutely bananas especially, but definitely killer across the whole release. The drums are tuned awesomely and the vocals are just incredibly intense and heavy. Monstrous stuff right here.

V/A - "Relapse Records Winter 2012 Sampler"

Despite not fully harnessing the digital era, a lot of established metal labels are dipping their toes in to test the waters. The ever awesome Relapse Records has been on the forefront of keeping it real, in terms of physical product and such, as well as putting some feelers out with new media in the form of free podcasts/mixtapes and free samplers.

The winter 2012 sampler from the label comes packing heat with a ridiculous collection of material from artists on their roster this year, along with a sneak peak of what's yet to come. If you're familiar with the label, then you know what to expect. If you're not down with Relapse, I gotta question your dedication to metal music. Either way, cop this mammoth collection of free tunes including work from Pig Destroyer, Hooded Menace, Christian Mistress, Baroness, Weapon, Death, Dying Fetus, Murder Construct and more. Each and every band bringing it heavy and relentless.

In a word: essential.

Ironhorse - "Dragged Down A Dead End Path"

Grindy hardcore punk from Salt Lake City's Ironhorse. Aggressive and relentless, as well as boasting ridiculous pointillistic hand draw cover art. Blare this one as loud as possible when you've had that shitty day we all run into now and again.

SYPHLUST - "Fuck You Bruce Willis"

As if the dude behind James Doesn't Exist et al isn't prolific enough already, he basically finishes off and rounds out the band called Syphlust, cited as a guest on each individual track and the album as a whole. Following the trend of all Nikolai Gawin related output, this shit is incredible. He, along with two other rude dudes, craft some really over the top brutally awesome noisy grindy chaotic mathy hardcore. Check the shit out. I mean, if you think you can handle it, anyhow. Torn Flesh Records strikes again.

Faith Addiction - "Order From Chaos"

I lamented about the end of Cellgraft back here, and then the guy behind No Reprieve Records just hit me up about this band Faith Addiction, which is 2/3 Cellgraft. So, you know, this shit is pretty awesome. Heavy grind, hardcore punk, sludgy noise, death thrash.

Galenus - "Ideology"

I've been finding a lot of incredible music from Chicago lately. Midwest, WHAT?! Here's another recent awesome discovery from the windy city. Galenus. A duo that crafts ripping and brutal technical death and grind varieties of heavy metal. Nice guttural growls complimented with slightly higher pitched shrieks over some truly relentless drum work and riffs. Nothing super innovative, but this is quite well produced and really tight technical heaviness - so if that's your thing, you're gonna love this.

Cellgraft - "Cellgraft LP"

The incredible and awesome band Cellgraft is calling it quits. Unfortunate as all hell, to be certain. Another Florida great bites the dust. Ah, well. At least they are giving away their final record for free on their Bandcamp page, eh? Chaotic grindcore at its finest. This is a no brainer, go get it.

Birth Of Depravity - "Promo Tracks 2011"

Cop a few tracks in .wav format by Birth Of Depravity from Greece. Debut LP is now out on cassette, this handful of tracks appears on that - so grab these promo tracks from last year in .wav format to get acquainted, courtesy of the band itself. Then go cop the tape for the rest of the story. Technical and heavy, pummeling death metal ripped right from the text book and executed incredibly well. Simple as that. Ridiculous cover art that couldn't better match the music it's for, to top it off.

Robocop / Detroit - "Dead Language, Foreign Bodies"

I like Robocop. Detroit was rad when I visited. I also like forward thinking grind. Sweet artwork also pleases me. And when things are free, I'm overjoyed. So, basically, this is the perfect fucking thing.

Chordotomy - "The Precious Ideal"

Free two track promo demo of absolutely rifftastic gutteral growl driven brutal death groove grind from Germany's Chordotomy. Heavy to no end, the pace is that of a beast shitting guitar riffs over super tight drums with one of the more enjoyable fullblown gurgle vocals I've heard in a while - usually that shit drives me nuts, but this cat pulls it off. Superior combo of relentless patient grind and almost groovy death thrash type shit. You're gonna love it.

Encryptor - "Sludgery"

Real. Fucking. Good.

Sydney grindy/fastcore/powerviolence band, originally called Ballistic Assault Unit. Members also played in Dot Dot Dot, Gracist and Hypnotoad and went on to form others like ROFL and the Ed Rodrigues Trio.
Recorded December 2001 with Fred Rodrigues, these tracks were originally intended for a split with Brisbane's Brain Resin on Deplorable Records, then Spin Control was going to do something with it up 'til fairly recently I think...all to no avail. Finally up and available here now, 10 years and untold dead braincells later.

Influenced by the likes of Discordance Axis, Spazz, Pig Destroyer, I-Spy and Swallowing Shit, ENCRYPTOR (not the Christian death metal band) were known for 20 minute sets of ruthless blastcore sans bass player.

Hexis - "XI"

Hexis appeared on a 3 way split I posted a while back and took the blue ribbon for best tunes on the split, despite subpar production value. With this one, however, they've upped the ante. Taking the foundation of their efforts on that split and turning it up a notch, both in terms of pure brutality and aggression as well as proper production value, this is a fucking monster.

Released less than a week after the split I mentioned above and previously posted, and at the same time as another release from them entitled "X", "XI" is a no holds barred monolith of blackened post grind. Huge riffs all over the place, blazing fast super technical drums that give way to half time backbeats, both a well executed growl and scream for vocals, heavy on the low ends - it's pretty much perfect. When the 7th track of this one is over, I thoroughly and completely want more. Good thing they released "X" as well and that I've never heard it, about to go download that and get some more of my Hexis fix right now.
