Protodome - Chipfunk

Super funky chippy jams coming straight outta Sonic the Hedgehog and all those 16 bit beaches filled with ferraris and bikini girls. I wanna go back to the arcade.

The Scene of the Shining Sun by JDSY

The scene of the Shining Sun is the newest release by Ghostly Intl. artist JDSY. The album's title track is reminiscent of early Beck while also maintaining its own unique flavor and ethereal elements throughout all the productions. Both eerie and soothing, this album is a good way to start off your week.

i, cactus - slipknot are really fucking hard

Photobucket

this album is all over the place. at times its digital hardcore-ish chiptune, other times its quite reminiscent of Stuntrock (track 3). Then it will switch up into ambient glitchy idm kinda stuff a la Mouse on Mars. Will you go on a trip with i, cactus? I did. Besides some inappropriate touching, it was a blast!

Dubious Disc - Illex Forest EP

 height=

A short EP of ambient chiptunes. Each song is named after a forest dwelling Pokemon. Every track is filled with delay and reverb soaked melancholy chip melodies backed by subdued drums. Very good for playing quietly while stressed out. Dubious Disc is an alias of Melting. You can download this release for free from Melting's bandcamp or purchase a cassette version of the album through the DIY label NOG Records run by SeagullsFuckingSeagulls.

V/A - Brokecore Forever

 photo a2471975754_2_zps27af8bcf.jpg

A fun romp through the extended Brokecore family. A Family that has been split up and gone through rough times, but has finally come back together in a tender embrace. The last Brokecore compilation was nigh on 7 years ago. The label has been pretty much on indefinite hiatus since. Now its back with a vengeance! 38 tracks of br00t41 nast'. Relative newcomer Mherdad kicks things off with a pretty straight forward breakcore banger, filled to the brim with breaks, edits, and gabber kicks. The following track by another newcomer, Freebase Frenzy, sounds as though Stuntrock himself (circa '00) took possession and kicked out the jams with his track "Mr Austin Tends To Get A Little Cranky If He Doesn't Get A Beer By Noon". The intensity never lets up. Whether its top notch noise blasts from the likes of Michigan's RedSK or evil chiptune anthems from Pittsburgh's very own Bit Mummy, you will not be disappointed. Evil Robot Ted, Brokecore's owner, known for his harsh digi noise pieces and broken breakbeat montages brings the finest, cleanest piece of Jungle/Drum n Bass I've ever heard from him. Ditching the standard noise pads for phasing melodies reminiscent of the raving early 90s and backing it up with varied, well edited amens provides a quite enjoyable listening experience. The track order is superb, songs often mixing very well into the following track. Evil Robot Ted's track runs perfectly into the mellow I DO NOT LOVE.'s "Come Back", subdued vocals harkening back to Joy Divisions haunting vocalist Ian Curtis coupled with a pretty electronic melody that slowly washes away in a sea of reverb and echo along with the rest of the song, a deep dark well of doomed synth pop. While there are many new names to the Brokecore roster introduced on this compilation, that doesn't mean there aren't a few old favorites in the mix either. Kindergarten Hazing Ritual, DJ Scratchin', and Helium Ointment all lend their talents. A joy to listen to, an honor to have had the opportunity to participate. Brokecore FOREVER!

Jankenpopp - Reve et Amour

 height=

"After several acclaimed appearances on compilations, a few autoproduced releases and hundreds of concerts, here is the long awaited first Jankenpopp album. Rêve & Amour (Dream and Love), is a rich and coherent album that synthesises Jankenpopp’s musical universe, a blend of synth pop, chiptune and breakcore. The album is released on BRK in limited edition cdr (200 copies) and free download. The music will speak better than words..." - from the BRK website

The albums starts off with a jaunt through 1940's popular music with a contemporary flair which soon morphs into aggressive fist pumpin electronica quickly followed by acoustic folk glitch punk. Track 4 "Spend the World" was previously a compilation appearance (which I believe showed up here on magicore). "Spend the World" is about as close to Magicore genre as you can get without some epic story line woven in. A very fun romp through contemporary electronic trends, while managing to claim their own style.

Auxcide - Dimensions

A sonic "post-chiptune" experiment by an unsung chiptune master (Auxcide), this album rules, kicks ass, slays, destroys, annihilates, regenerates and recreates the universe in 4 short tracks. And then it does it again, in LSDJ.

Love Through Cannibalism/Whitely - Wonderful Island

 photo 2824198826-1_zps5184cfaa.jpg

Love Through Cannibalism is a lad ive been following over the past 4 years or so. LTC has come along way. Production quality has skyrocketed. This new split is listed as seapunk/chipbreak. What i hear is classic late 90s IDM. Pretty, lush melodies are woven with toned down amens and other breakbeats. All doused in a tropical vibe. Both Whitely and LxTxCx do a great job creating the Island feel for this album, which is quite obviously the intended product. Music for Desert Island Dancing. Can't shake a stick at that... well you can, but you'll regret it.....

IAYD - LIVE @ STUDIO B (06.09.2012)

IAYD Live 6/9/12 @ Studio B in Corpus Christi TX

So, here it is; the absolutely raw recordings of one of the last IAYD sets at Studio B in Corpus Christi, TX, the summer of 2k12. Hands down, this set is one of the most emotional sets I've ever played (I'm going to miss Studio B a whole lot), as well as one of the most chaotic and absolutely insane crowds I've ever had the pleasure of playing for; and the amount of times I become unplugged reflects that in the recordings.
Personal highlights from the show include: 8 bottles of champagne popped during the set endless high hives/hugs/sentimental people endless cart corruption three buttons off of my shirt getting ripped off my table collapsing from bassweight/crowdweight

the rest you'll have to discover for yourself.
I just really hope you enjoy it.
(those who choose to donate will receive the raw video footage of the set, as well as the raw GB recordings of the full tracks, [City of Mediocrity, Get Death, and etc.])

Magicks - Musicks

Here ya go, some chillchips.

"The beauty of Magicks sound is that it is as accessible as it is indecipherable. Although the Chicago native cites hip hop, rhythm and blues and shoegaze as initial influences, the end product is much more. Magicks is a high minister in the "Church of What's Happening Now", managing to blend a virtual primer of today's most influential sounds into one cohesive package that actually sounds good (to even the most jaded critic). This is dreamy pop music crafted by a psychick warrior. Equal parts pleasure and challenge to the modern ear."

kessenchu – my kinda scene is crime scene

Photobucket

Magicore and Robo! Robotica's long time musical friend Kessenchu finally drops another full length album! It is very difficult to work out the genre classification intricacies that make up "My Kinda Scene is a Crime Scene", besides the fact that it is definitely some sort of chip music. The songs contained within are reminiscent of the classical punk sound, the driving bass, simple melodies, and aggressive vocals. All of the songs are radio pop size tidbits, although the content is far from pop. While most of the albums sounds are limited to a chip "base" there are some welcome and surprising splashes of variety. A number of songs feature the classic amen breakbeat. These creep in towards the end of a couple songs, slowly fading in to, presumably, create a sense of urgency and/or add to the pump up the energy of the track as it reaches its end. Kessenchu's sound has evolved since he first dropped on Robo! Robotica. "My Kinda Scene is a Crime Scene" sees Kessenchu's sound grow up by leaps and bounds. No longer just another chip grind carbon copy. Kessenchu has begun to define his own personal sound. Its not bad either. "My Kinda Scene is a Crime Scene" is sure to be very popular in chip musics many cliques. Welcome to the new and improved, more mature, Kessenchu.

Chibi-tech - Moe Moe Kyunstep

Photobucket

An awesome lil piece of chip goodness from our friend Chibi-tech, an asian-american living in Japan. She used Famicom to create a dubstep track in response to people believing that you could not create hard sounds with Famicom. For all the details on how the album was made, be sure to check the info on the bandcamp page. Moe Moe Kyunstep is comprised of two tracks. One a more traditional chiptune outing, the other a filthy chipstep banger. Don't pass this up!
