Kamikaze Deadboy - Thanatophobia

This 5-track valentine's day record release by UK auteur Kamikaze Deadboy is lush with vibe. Straightforward and fun, this melded-genre record really connected with me from second one. It feels instantly classic, like it's been in your library for years- and brings you a delightful mix of film-score instrumental sounds, battle record tier samples, glitchy melody bits and a smattering of head-nodding hip-hop/triphop esque beats. The percussion is just perfectly understated, complementing the melodic aspects- and the vibes are just non-stop; holy shit- just so wonderfully bouncy and groovy. I dare you to listen to it just once- and then tell me about it so I can ridicule you to anyone who will listen.

It's a really pleasant ill-scape journey through the mind of Kamikaze Db, skipping out on the pretentious wankery a lot of artists like to put into their work- the record doesn't need to tell you it's deep- it just delivers you a quick, full listen that begs you to download it and play it on loop. I can't get enough.

Black Pus - Pus Mortem

Photobucket

Lightning Bolt drummer Brian Chippendale spews forth 8 gooey, murkified jam-a-lams perfect for those craving a noise enema and/or fresh breakbeats to groove and grind to. Spastic breaks, crunchy bass waves, and vocals that sound like they came from the bottom of a noise mans pedal box all characterize Black Pus' sound. A few of the tracks devolve into stoney psychedelic fuzz and loop fests. Perfect jams to help you space out and endure the last gasps of summers heat offensive.

Twin Cities Drum'N'Bass Volume Five

Big love goin' out to my home town and its sister city, Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN! All the heads that are pushing a jungle/drum'n'bass sound for the dancefloor and wall systems get together every now and again for a compilation of original tunes mixed up by one of the DJs and the result is increasingly awesome with each volume.

A big variety of dancefloor aimed numbers from some deeper and soulful rollers to hardcore dub laced skankers to some sort of newschool jump up flavors with some dubwise drops through to some upfront in your face freakouts and beyond. Personal highlights are both of Virgo's offerings; "Hardest Drummer" featuring I-shack with some future reggae jungle'n'skank jazz and the shady private intvestigator vibes on "Better Killers", Fact's "Rhinoceros" with its nod to the sparse yet intelligent chop suey drum'n'bass from the latter 90s, and Idol's alien language cyber rain forest colony d'n'b on "The Void".

MBC assembles these monster tracks, wide range of styles and vibes they each bring, incredibly well and manages to lay down some seriously deep and creative mixing between them. Brace sounds at home among the tracks and mixing, never too loud and only complimenting the music and blends. Nice mastering and sick cover art to top it all off.

The fresh flavors from several of the area's heads who were around and managed to help shape my mind musically in my formative jungleraver years, as well as a helping of younger heads I know to varying degree carrying on their idea of that framework, plus even more cats I'm not too familiar with.

Free download, CD for $5.00, and Tshirt for $15 - get it!

Digital Gnosis - "7"

A sort of esoteric blend of forward thinking production and songwriting with more ritual-esque and world - almost tribal at times - vibes that sounds as though it was pulled equally from one of the greatest movies you've never seen and one of the most elaborate, almost lifelike, video games you've never played. At moments you feel like you've been taken to see some sort of metaphysical shaman of sound in a smoky post apocalyptic futurejazz bar and others you are walking through a dimly lit forest collecting coins and gems while slaying beasts unlike you've ever encountered in any fairy tale or science fiction book, movie, or game. Undeniably cinematic, wavering between hopeful and desperate, "7" from Digital Gnosis is truly a magnificent collection of music.

Triple Six Sound Club - "Peyote Party Mixtape

This is some 18 year old dude from my hometown of Minneapolis, MN. It is absolutely heartwarming and awe-inspiring to hear this coming from the place I grew up, I'll start with that. What is it? That's hard to nail down, truthfully. To be so great and difficult to lock down is a rare gift. Hats off to this kid, on the real.

I usually fuck with you here on Magicore with metal and noise varieties, but this time I'm hitting you off some truly epic EDM / dance flavors. Triple Six Sound Club is on some other shit, truthfully. Tribal cyborg hybrid dub techno freejazz industrial electro warehouse rave anthem? Damn straight.

Check this dude out on Soundcloud, for real though (Wiz Khalifa remix and Woofer Wrecker come highly recommended). He's on some other shit everyone is clamoring to obtain. Boom!

Here's the truly rad "Peyote Party Mixtape". You're dumb if you don't love it.

splashes of detroit electro, idm, and hints of breakcore from his days as av3rs1on, john stone brings a pretty mix of bells and whistles, breaks and bass. you can really see yourself traipsing about the outer reaches of Edo.
