Tsar Bomb - "Tsar Bomb EP"

Spanish blackened death metal of the highest, if slightly over-produced, caliber. I actually really love everything about this EP other than the fact that the production is a little too clean. Blow a speaker listening to ti the first, then give it another listen with a blown speaker. Yeah.

Marnost - "Die Hamletmaschine"

Killer long form black metal from Marnost, a band hailing from the Czech Republic who use poetry written by authors now dead and dating back many years as their lyrics. This particular release is inspired by a play/dance, apparently. It's fucking remarkable music, no matter. Deep and enveloping, diverse and evolving.

Haapoja - "Haapoja"

Some pretty well executed Finnish hardcore with an air of progressive and black metal to it. Great riffs and chords, awesome shifts in time signatures, drums are on point, vocals are just the right amount of screaming and growling and sit well in the mix of everything else. Check it.

Outre - "Tranquility"

Awesome and fairly technical thrashy black metal from Russia courtesy of Outre. Kick ass riffs and chords, vocals are a nice breed of thrashy blackened death, and the drums are full of double kickdrum assaults under really rad fills, rolls, and cymbal workouts. Get it.

Tenebrositas - "Toward The Solemn Realm Of Prophet's Twilight"

No scene. No politics. Darkness alone.

Well said. Trve cvlt black metal from Croatia's Tenebrositas. Get it.

Deuil - "Acceptance/Rebuild"

Belgian post black metal and forward thinking doom by way of Deuil. "Acceptance" spends half of its 20 minutes in borderline ambient/drone doom realms before ultimately unleashing a blackened beast from the post-apocalyptic bowels of post-whatever-as-a-genre while the fittingly titled "Rebuild" continues on the basic trajectory of "Acceptance" as it attempts to rebuild your psyche after the pummeling it received from "Acceptance". Loud, deep, angry, inviting.

Kryzgx - "Kryzgx I"

Genuinely creepy and ritualistic atmospheric black metal from Kryzgx, and artists name you'll never remember how to spell correctly. It is mixed and recorded by Munkie Poo, featured here in the past, so I'm curious as to whether or not this is an alias project from him. Either way, the fuzzed out melodies and leftfield vocal flexings are a nice take on a timeless classic, in terms of the black metal genre. Check it.

Lapageria Rosea & Macáes - "Pureza Y Chaos"

A split release of black metal varieties from Argentina and Chile thanks to Macáes and Lapageria Rosea, respectively. A very post-rock and shoegaze vibe is employed throughout the entire release, more so on the Macáes offerings, and the hybrid works pretty well despite the Macáes efforts being the least well produced of the two.

The real stand out moments on this split are from Lapageria Rosea, who deliver the most expertly executed post black metal offerings I've heard in a month or two. The melody and guitar work are absolutely beautiful, the vocals are deep and gurgly, layered at times, and rest within the mix so comfortably that they almost become another instrument themselves - as should be the case for this type of outing. Nice electronic elements employed at just the right moments, the whole is super emotive for both but especially so for Lapageria Rosea.

Highly recommended for the last 3 tracks alone, but the 6 together are a nice experience to be certain.

UNRU - "Demo MMXIII"

Absolutely unholy and blasphemous blackened crust from Germany's UNRU. Filthy and disgusting in every way, essential listening for all fans of truly depraved blackened metal varieties.

Mysteria Inframundi - Neptunian Rift

Black metal from Deep South Texas, Laredo, Texas to be exact.  You may know Laredo for cartel violence, murders, drug running, and all that crazy shit those drug lords have been doing for years.  Don't let any of that bother you because music is the savior in this case.  The new album by Mysteria Inframundi is by far the best thing I've heard the past few months.  Give this album a listen and see exactly what I mean.

Autumn, Leaves, Scars - "The Story Of A Life"

Depressive post-ish black metal and sort of blackened shoegaze influenced gothic rock. Or something. Some nice melodies and everything is played & put together well. If any of those buzz words get ya hot under the collar, you'll enjoy this.

Dödsfärd - "Förfall"

Their band name translates from Swedish into English as "journey of death", which is a pretty fitting band name that belongs to a Swedish black metal outfit. Lo-fi and true to the black metal roots, the guitars are pretty choice, utilizing some cool progression and amplification  The drums are run of the mill, nothing spectacular but not horrible. Vocals ride a little high in the mix, but are expertly executed. True school black metal fans will dig this.
