Kamikaze Deadboy - Thanatophobia

This 5-track valentine's day record release by UK auteur Kamikaze Deadboy is lush with vibe. Straightforward and fun, this melded-genre record really connected with me from second one. It feels instantly classic, like it's been in your library for years- and brings you a delightful mix of film-score instrumental sounds, battle record tier samples, glitchy melody bits and a smattering of head-nodding hip-hop/triphop esque beats. The percussion is just perfectly understated, complementing the melodic aspects- and the vibes are just non-stop; holy shit- just so wonderfully bouncy and groovy. I dare you to listen to it just once- and then tell me about it so I can ridicule you to anyone who will listen.

It's a really pleasant ill-scape journey through the mind of Kamikaze Db, skipping out on the pretentious wankery a lot of artists like to put into their work- the record doesn't need to tell you it's deep- it just delivers you a quick, full listen that begs you to download it and play it on loop. I can't get enough.

Dubious Disc - Illex Forest EP

 height=

A short EP of ambient chiptunes. Each song is named after a forest dwelling Pokemon. Every track is filled with delay and reverb soaked melancholy chip melodies backed by subdued drums. Very good for playing quietly while stressed out. Dubious Disc is an alias of Melting. You can download this release for free from Melting's bandcamp or purchase a cassette version of the album through the DIY label NOG Records run by SeagullsFuckingSeagulls.

Light Bearer - "Silver Tongue"

If you're a fan of post-metal and post-hardcore, even if not a fan of those genre terms, then Light Bearer's new one entitled "Silver Tongue" should absolutely not be slept upon. Plain and simple. Huge walls of guitar and coarse vocals with a nice and varied backbone of drums, bass, and atmosphere. All executed superbly. From front to back, beginning to end, "Silver Tongue" tells a story successfully and expertly, as you would expect from this description of the band:

all encompassing DIY art, music and narrative project, based around a story written by their vocalist Alex, who drew influence from the writings of Philip Pullman’s "His Dark Materials" trilogy, John Milton’s "Paradise Lost", and the Book of Genesis.

With defined intros, segue ways, and outros, "Silver Tongue" is a heavy soundtrack to some more refined
creative outlets among the metal masses. Truly something to be experience from front to back in one sitting.

Besvikelsens Dystra Monotoni / Free Tibet - "Black Vale"

I've been a Besvikelsens Dystra Monotoni fan since I first stumbled upon their work via the now defunct Space Black Metal blog. Moving from obvious metal tendencies to full blown electronic affairs in the realms of ambient and drone, Besvikelsens Dystra Monotoni is but one of many remarkable Russian artists crafting truly incredible ambient music. With "Black Vale" we see Besvikelsens Dystra Monotoni teaming up with Free Tibet, an artist I'm otherwise unfamiliar with, for a huge cosmic cavern of deep and dark ambient of the highest most lush caliber  Beguiling and subtly menacing, "Black Vale" is an exercise in the most far reaches of dark ambient music. A veritable black hole represented in, ultimately, 2 movements expressed from 2 different entities. Essential for all ambient, drone, and noise fans.

Chigurh - "The Instrument"

Harsh without being harsh noise from Chigurh on the Mulehorse label as a name your price download. I don't even really care to call it noise, harsh or otherwise, despite most people considering it that. This is heavy ambient music. Enjoy.

The New Noise - "Volume 1 / Volume 2"

The New Noise is an Italian web zine focusing on experimental and noisy music, usually of the metal and extreme/experimental electronic variety. They have two volumes of a compilation available which they compiled, one is more psychedelic and electronic focused and one is more metal/punk/etc focused. Both are really great and serve as a sonic connect the dots of leftfield underground music, mostly rooted in Italy or via the Italian entity that is The New Noise. If you have a few hours to kill, get both compilations and cue them em up back to back and beginning to end. It's a great fucking experience.

Vulgar Disease - "Gangland"

So, you guys are all listening to the Torn Flesh Records netlabel by now, right? I mean, you definitely should be, for how much we talk about it here on Magicore. If not, let's add another specific and tasty little morsel to the platter.

Vulgar Disease are an unparalleled noise act whom happen to get some love from one of the coolest netlabels around, so I mean, it's a win/win circle jerk in the pits of hell or some shit, ya know? This one, entitled "Gangland", is some oppressive and dense ambient noise laced with blackened occult tendencies. Just punishing and uncompromising, even at its most subdued and seemingly mellow moments. A lot of people want to throw around the term "harsh noise" in reference to Vulgar Disease, but when I think harsh noise I think of high pitched squelches and squeals and - usually - haphazard noise creation. What Vulgar Disease does is something vastly superior to turning everything on and up and then seeing where the sonic crumbs fall. This is a ritualistic experience of sound, not to be taken lightly.

When Woods Make Graves - "This Forest That Will Eclipse The Sky"

One man black metal from Liverpool which goes by the name of When Woods Make Graves. A lot of heavy ambient overtones and passages that bring more atmospheric and ambient bands to mind, but fierce and repulsive when the hell is unleashed. Self described as taking influence from Burzum, Wolves In The Throne Room, and Darkspace - that's a great starting point to describe the sound, but there is definitely some originality on this material. When Woods Make Graves isn't entirely unlike any other black metal band you can name but is thoroughly enjoyable and very much its own all the same.

Liveride - "Кокон"

Atmospheric and ambient black metal from Russia by Liveride. Short intro bit with lots of wind and nature atmosphere over sparse melody, title track is fuzzy and sort of shoegaze ambient black metal. It's pretty and haunting, all at once. Enjoy.

iampervert - in love with an undine

Photobucket

The man known as The Captain Kirk on LSD Experience, project jammed full of in your face aggressiveness and political correctness destroying themes, goes a new route with Iampervert. Instead of pop sized chip-grind crazy-ness you receive six to eight minute odysseys spelunking through murky emotion mines inhabited by stirring melodies and endearing progressions. It is hard to pigeonhole Iampervert with a genre tag. Sirona-Records describes it as "Witch Wave" and "Dark Psychedelic". Another suiting description would be "Power Ballads for Time Traveling Goth Ravers (who are into neo-classical synth punk)". Listen and find your own wacky description!
