Smashing new release by LA based Forget Me Nauts. Sludgy distortion, gentle synths, and robotic vocals tell a tale of ... something? If you are looking for a band betwixt stoner metal and Weezer with a twist of synthpop flavor, then you will dig this. New, new, new wave..

The New Noise - "Volume 1 / Volume 2"

The New Noise is an Italian web zine focusing on experimental and noisy music, usually of the metal and extreme/experimental electronic variety. They have two volumes of a compilation available which they compiled, one is more psychedelic and electronic focused and one is more metal/punk/etc focused. Both are really great and serve as a sonic connect the dots of leftfield underground music, mostly rooted in Italy or via the Italian entity that is The New Noise. If you have a few hours to kill, get both compilations and cue them em up back to back and beginning to end. It's a great fucking experience.

Kosmograd - "Self Titled"

Sludgy post hardcore with some psychedelic and black metal tendencies here and there. Sick ass cover art, to boot. It's a couple years old now, but age ain't nothing but a number when speaking of good music and the first time hearing it. Check it out.

Cut The End - "Dawn's Death To Dusk"

Post death metal? Is that a thing now? The dudes in the awesomely named band Cut The End would like you to believe there is, I guess. I dunno, though. To me, it just sounds like expertly crafted heavy offerings of the post metal / post rock sub genres with a more aggro vocal delivery than either usually employ or allow, let alone champion and herald, with sludge and death metal flavors. I hate throwing around the word "epic", but this shit really is a sort of sludge tinged death derived version of post heavy metal that is, absolutely, epic. Check it out.

Wolveserpent - "Perigaea"

Wolveserpent have made a new demo available for free download at their website. Super ritualistic psychedelic blackened doom shit right here. They have a ton of other releases available for free download on their site, too, so get up to speed with what they've been doing the last several years if you're not already caught up.  But, yeah, this "Perigaea" demo is fucking killer. Dark, psychedelic, trance inducing, sludgy black doom metal. Great stuff!

Faith Addiction - "Order From Chaos"

I lamented about the end of Cellgraft back here, and then the guy behind No Reprieve Records just hit me up about this band Faith Addiction, which is 2/3 Cellgraft. So, you know, this shit is pretty awesome. Heavy grind, hardcore punk, sludgy noise, death thrash.

Karcavul - "Rawctaver"

Necro doom extreme. That's pretty accurate. Pummeling and suffocating, France's Karcavul deliver four tracks of ritualistic brutality with their EP "Rawctaver". Grimy sludge covered doom from the darkest recesses of heavy metal music, hinting at black metal sometimes and death metal others. Just disgusting and invasive in every way, you'll be trying to scrub this one out of you in the shower for the next month. Pick up a lmited edition tape or CD for just 5€, or grab the download for free.

Hvíldarlauss Dauðr - "Through The Corpse Door"

Easily the most deceptive album cover in a hot minute. No, no this is not some chin stroking minimal tech house post bass disenfranchised future club retro pop. This is some black metal. If anything, it's a sort of epic/doom variety of post black metal. But, I mean, for real, fuck hyprefractioning, this is just some good fucking black metal. Any variety or type of black metal listener will easily enjoy this. Only just far reaching enough, just a hair away from being textbook.

Law Of The Tongue - "Law Of The Tongue"

Hittin' you again with some more Torn Flesh Records material! Seriously, they've got so much great stuff, making it hard to keep up and decide what to share - also keepin' me from checkin' out metal material that's not on their label, ha!

This time around it's the self titled mammoth that is Law Of The Tongue with some six ton unapologetic stoner & doom varieties of truly rockin' heavy fuckin' metal. Toss in some southern/sludge tendencies and you're good to go with this one. Riffage layered upon riffage covered in bluesy jazzy metal drums topped off with a perfect growl and alternating scream vocal delivery. Sick cover art and brutal name, once more from the Torn Flesh camp. Heavy.

Idol's Pague - "Angels To Some... Demons To Others"

I had the pleasure of randomly catching these guys here in Arizona the night before my birthday. I was looking for something to do, considering it was my birthday weekend, and couldn't find anything. I texted a few people here I know and it looked like I might not be doing anything cool for my birthday. Until one of them texted back (Hi, Christi!) and offered to take me to this dive bar she was a fan of. Sounded like as good an option as any, considering it was - as I mentioned - my birthday weekend and that I also love dive bars. Come to find out there were some bands playing, described as stoner/punk from one of the bartenders. I was down. A couple other bands played, and I enjoyed them - but I don't remember who they were, as I obviously didn't enjoy them all that much. But I remember Oakland's Idol's Plauge.

Idol's Plague play a pretty rad concoction of various types of metal. Especially cool is that they are as awesome as they are and there's only two members - a drummer and a guitarist/vocalist. With just the two of them, they hit the stage like a dual monolithic powerhouse not often experienced from even a more full and traditionally well rounded band. The drummer is super tight and on point, ridiculous shifts in time signature and tempo, then back again with cool fills and rolls executed perfectly. The guy responsible for vocal and guitar work is a nice one two punch in the gut, blood vessel bursting agonizing screams and riffs upon riffs all drenched in distortion and feedback.

The vocalist hung out with us for a bit after their set and talked shop. Cool motherfucker. I bought their CD and talked my own shop. He said it was cool if I ripped the CD and included it with a review, so that's fucking awesome.

Their bio or whatever from their Facebook page reads:

A creation inspired by the negligence and frustration of sitting still... By complacent, unchallenged ears and minds that provoke an excuse for us to explode frantically, spiritually, aggressively, without a second thought of tomorrow.

You get the picture. Super dope. If you get the chance, go check 'em out live. Until then, here.

Hexis / As We Draw / Euglena - split

This is an interesting release. It's like, from the moment you push play it is a steady march toward awesome. As We Draw start off this split on some screamo type shit I'm not particularly fond of that, despite that, manages to not fail terribly. Holding true, their second effort on this one is better than their first. Euglena are sandwiched in the middle operating on some post-metal and sludge wavelengths and bring 3 tracks of, again, increasing radness perfect for that stoned evening in front of your speakers - each track better than the previous. The treat here, ironically or not, is the last two tracks from Hexis, which are the least well produced in terms of the physics of production but which still manage to come correct with the icing on the cake role - awesome closing tunes to this split release available on vinyl for 10 Euros or name your price (with no minimum) digital download.

Jucifer - "Nadir"

Holy shit! Holy shit! Holy shit! This is like gettin' pregnant when you ain't ever had sex, right up in here. Aural immaculate conception up in this bitch. Motherfucking Jucifer on the ever awesome, ridiculous, incredible, and previously featured Grindcore Karaoke netlabel. I never!

The gypsy like husband and wife duo that is the sonic beast known as Jucifer deliver a free release of their trademark stripped down epic distorted sludge rock which should be heard live and loud on all 76 speakers + 6,500 watts of sound that they herald as their benchmark and which I've experienced live myself. But, in the meantime. Grab this, connect all the audio output devices you own and turn it up real fucking loud. Only after you've smoked about 666 bowls of Kush and drank at least as many skunk beers.

Lycus - "Demo 2011"

West Coast funeral doom metal of the highest caliber. 3 seven to nine minute numbers here on their 2011 pay whatever (with no minimum) demo download. If you were feelin' that Amarok joint I posted for my first contribution here on Magicore, then this is easily right up your alley. Heavy, foreboding, painful dirges of epic doom metal.
