Noistruct - Sacrilege [NTR096]

 height=

some dirty 'n dark atmoshperic drone breakcore goodness from Australia's Night Terror Recordings
and Noistruct. 3 tracks clocking in at almost 1/2 hour plus stems for the title track. Industrial wasteland soundscapes digitally rendered. Ceremonial Remix has got some haunting vocals bumping about... busy ER waiting room. Splitting headache breaks. That feeling before your appendix was removed. Dissonant background layers swallow the break. Cacophony. "RMX" is a far different and less lengthy take on title track. MuCH c0r3 FuNk.

Kryzgx - "Kryzgx I"

Genuinely creepy and ritualistic atmospheric black metal from Kryzgx, and artists name you'll never remember how to spell correctly. It is mixed and recorded by Munkie Poo, featured here in the past, so I'm curious as to whether or not this is an alias project from him. Either way, the fuzzed out melodies and leftfield vocal flexings are a nice take on a timeless classic, in terms of the black metal genre. Check it.

Alone Architect

Dark grooves featuring various vocalists, created by the bassist of the now-defunct progressive rock group Pulse Ultra.  I was a huge fan of Pulse Ultra (+ Chronicles of Israfel) so discovering this project has me really stoked.

Liveride - "Кокон"

Atmospheric and ambient black metal from Russia by Liveride. Short intro bit with lots of wind and nature atmosphere over sparse melody, title track is fuzzy and sort of shoegaze ambient black metal. It's pretty and haunting, all at once. Enjoy.

Hand Of Taurus - "Hand Of Taurus"

Djent has really kind of gone the way of super/over produced music in a lot of cases, a general trend that I'm not terribly into for the most part. I still dig the purveyors and full bands that push the envelope with the sound, bands like Meshuggah or even After The Burial. Aside from the A.I.(d) stuff, the one man hyper produced djent band hasn't really done it for me. Hand Of Taurus kind of does it for me, though. At least enough so to bother posting it. Needless to say, if you're into super clean electronics infused metal music, you'll probably enjoy this.

From truly rockin' full on djent workouts to electronic back beat breakdowns, Hand Of Taurus does a pretty good job of crafting a story out of sound all on his own. The production is, super tight - bordering on overly so. However, there's a lot of great musicality to this album, the melody and atmosphere work is remarkable sound design and the electronic percussion work is a nice compliment. The metalic elements are pulled off nice and slick, though you can hear the electronic element throughout the entire release. It's kind of like if Dream Theatre were quite heavier and slightly groovier, while also being one individual with a computer instead of a full traditional band.

It's at least worth checking out if any of those things pique your interest, and absolutely worth doing so if that whole scene is your thing even in the slightest.

Cyclopian - "Cyclopian"

Post doom metal in a thick coat of flat black. Cyclopian deliver a roller coaster ride with their self titled release that is rooted in doom metal but extends its tentacles outside of that cage in countless directions at once. Elements of black and death metal highlight the sound when it's really heavy, orchestral post metal movements fill in the gaps. Quality fuckin' shit.

Ikipir - birds painted in sky

Photobucket

Ikipir came to my attention way back in 2004, when a friend of mine was starting a new label here in chicago. one of the artists he got tracks from was Ikipir. His talent was immediately evident. Ikipirs release for the Mahorka label showcases Ikipir's development over the years, fusing classic turn of the century IDM break attacks with more traditional ambient washes and atmospheres. Think Horse and Goat. The end result is very tasty. Nostalgic like mama's own meatloaf. You'll wish it was 99 again. I mean, who doesnt?

Basis - "Ether"

Spectacular self released space ambient business right here courtesy of Basis. Very lush and rolling, like a nebula exploding in slow motion forever. Hints of some of dubstep's more atmospheric workers (think Burial) here and there, with layers and layers of synth washes and natural atmospherics, sprinkled with sparse electronics percussion.
