The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge #4

Image
Hi, guys! It's a lovely, sunny day in S-E Herts, so of course it's time for another Challenge at The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge! I have been having a massive tidy of my craft hovel and found a lot of very old Christmas papers, so I made 3 Starburst/Sunburst cards. The link is to Youtube. The Christmas tree is a Spellbinders die, I filled in the holes with red stickles. The sentiment is by Hero Arts. The holly die is by Whimsy Stamps and the sentiment is from the same Hero Arts set I layered it on gold card, and the sentiment is by Lil' Inkers. Fun cards, and brilliant for using up snippets! PS Here is a video on making a side starburst card, for some variety! Have a good week! love Mags B x

Starburst!

Good evening, my lovelies! I'm just popping by quickly with a card I made using the Starburst technique and some Lili of the Valley papers. (The link is to one of many Youtube videos, this is also known as the 'Sunburst' technique but 'Starburst' is the name of the faster-than-light travel in the tv series 'Farscape' and since I'm a big fan.....) I made several like this while watching the World Cup last week. Once the papers are cut it's easy to put them together. The sentiment is also LotV and is gold embossed, and the ribbon is from my stash. The only thing to watch out for in this technique is to make sure that directional patterned papers are cut and glued in the right direction so that eg hearts are all the right way round. My daughter came over from Ireland because she had her latest blood tests and report on whether she is still clear of her cancer and I'm delighted to say that she is still in remission! Then tomorrow the Old ...

Evening, all! How are you keeping? Did you all have a good weekend? We visited my son's family near Shrewsbury, which was so lovely! The sun smiled on us - in fact I am a wee bit bronzed, as we all went for a play on the swings at the local park! One of the best things about having a granddaughter is that it gives you a reason to play and giggle - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! My card is one I made a couple of weeks ago for a friend who was not so fortunate on her holidays, as she injured her wrist. She has received the card, so now I am blogging it. It's another Starburst card. The gold-embossed sun in the corner is a stamp I have had for many years, and there are no details as to where it's from, I'm afraid. The sentiment is by Whiff of Joy, and the banner is a Lawn Fawn 'Bannerific' stamp: I coloured it with Mustard Seed and Wild Honey Distress Inks then added some Crystal Stickles. Super simples! Well, it's time to climb the woo...

The Squirrel and the Fox Challenge #62 - Use Embellishments!

Image
Good morning! Ooops, actually, no, it's the afternoon! I meant to schedule this post, but we were watching 'The Mentalist' yesterday evening and I forgot! D'oh!! But I'm here now to tell you about our new challenge at The Squirrel and the Fox. It's one that will appeal to so many of you - Use Embellishments. Yes, we'd like to see at least TWO embellishments on your creation! Our sponsor is our very own DT teamie Vanessa! Check out her shop she has loads of sweet embellies, as well as a range of other goodies! She is offering a $10 gift card for her shop, and also 3 sets of enamel dots! The images the DT have used have also been designed by Vanessa - this is Caroline, isn't she elegant?! As you can see, I had another go at a Starburst pattern, I thought it would look like the flash from Caroline's camera! The papers are from a magazine last year, they are very bright! To calm down the busy-ness I embossed a strip of cream pearlescent card...

Starburst!

I have seen a lot of these Starburst (or Sunburst) cards on Facebook recently and thought I'd have a go! The check background is from a Papermania Capsule Collection stack and the starburst papers are from a 'Forever Friends' pack that was another magazine freebie. I stickled between the lines to give a bit of sparkle! The butterflies are made with a Woodware punch, glued in the centre so the wings lift up, and I stickled them and added a pearl to each body. The baker's twine is from stash and the sentiment was another magazine freebie. This is my second Starburst card - and my first Christmas card of 2014! All the papers are snippets! I used Broken China Distress Ink round the edges. The tiny snowflakes are cut with a Memory Box die, and stickled. The sentiment is by LotV and is embossed in silver. I'm really pleased with how they turned out! Challenges I'm entering: The first card is for Crafty Hazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge as I used mo...
