D O E M A A R - D O R I S D A Y E N A N D E R E S T U K K E N

So, the year was 1982, I've lived in squat houses in Rotterdam for about a year by that time and most of the folks I was living with were either overdosing on heroin or going crazy over other stuff and I saw the whole punk scene turn to shit and I thought, you know what, fuck this, and I started living with my parents again, end of 1981, I got a job, spending all my money on weed, books, comics by Moebius, Tardi and Corben and records, discovering great bands like This Heat and Metabolist, Fela Kuti etc., going to great concerts, watching acts like The Birthday Party, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Einsturzende Neubauten, Han Bennink and so much more, life really was pretty incredible back then, not a care in the world really, magic mushrooms every now and then and later on sharing all the fun with my bloodbrothers Johnny, Willem and Dick, really, if I had a time machine I would be going back to that time all the time :) 1982 Is also the year that these guys came out, Dutch reggae band Doe Maar and for quiet a while they were the biggest this, you couldn't go anywhere or you would hear their hit Doris Day and I don't care who you are, if you're Dutch and in your 50's like I am, if you were a punk, a hard-rocker, a disco freak or even a skinhead, you know this song, word for word, and if you say you don't you're lying :) From what I hear (from my brothers and sisters who are all huge fans) they still give concerts every now and then and when they do they can fill up huge venues for a couple of days in a row, which, in Holland, is quiet a feat.... DELIDEL TOUCH - YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW

Here's a cd single from Rotterdam reggae group Delidel Touch.... The guys I was working for from the beginning of '92 till the end of '96 helped putting this cd out, they were real reggae freaks, every year we would go and see concerts by Burning Spear and Israel Vibration, seen both acts a bunch of times.... The plants you see on the back cover in the green house, well, I put those into the ground with my then and still best friend S., we would live in a small camper in the forest somewhere in the North East of Holland for months on end, guarding the green house at night, check the plants for fungus and other pests at sun up and sleep most of the day. Often back-breaking work but we loved it. The hardest job was when, in the middle of winter we had to go there, the boss pointed to a mountain of pipes and hoses and said "this is a ground heating system, that's the ground, see you in three weeks", they wanted to do an experiment, see if we would get a bigger crop if you planted months early (you don't), so for weeks we dug trenches, burried pipes and hoses, in frozen ground. Turn on the tap, see water rising and start digging again, in frozen ground.... Loads of adventures that now, almost 30 years later I still can't talk about on a blog, but God, those were the days.... I did the green house for about two years or so, in between working in a cafe and doing dj jobs and then I did loads of stuff for them back home, in Rotterdam for a few years, till the end of '96 when I went on a back pack trip to Indonesia and never left.... Here's the same plants but a little while later :)
Anyway, here's the cd: GET IT HERE Enjoy!
