Incredible kuda lumping show today, right in front of my house, and just back from the evening show, also right in front of my house, a 4 hour non-stop jaipong show that was incredibly wild and fantastic, so.... not any time to record or post today :) Enjoy!

TODAY'S KUDA LUMPING TRANCE DANCE SHOW

Great kuda lumping trance dancing show today, right in front of my house. It was WILD, I've been to quite a few of these kind of shows but never one as wild as this one, the power on my phone ran out so I couldn't film when it got really crazy, some of the dancers really went deep in their trance, storming blindly into the crowd with enormous force, "kasurupan pamonyet" is what we call that, every dancer that went too crazy, they needed 8 to 10 men to keep them down, it got so crazy that some village officials put a stop to the show, afraid that people would get seriously hurt, never seen anything like it, and I loved it :) Watch the third video at 3.06 and see what happens, no describing the force of that.... KUDHO PRANESO - OJO SEMBRONO

Fantastic jathilan cassette from the Kudho Praneso group from Middle Java... Jathilan, Kuda Lumping, Reog, all trance dancing where dancers go into a deep, deep trance, get possesed by spirits and change into a variarity of animals, tigers, monkey's, buffalo, and it can get WILD... Here, in the village where I live they call it Kuda Lumping and they do it around 4 to 6 times a year, right in the front of my house where there's a volley ball field and I love it, the music is amazing, the atmosphere can get incredibly heavy, dancers go into their trance, they vomit, they eat glass, they tear coconuts apart with their teeth, they roll in the dust, they've got half a meter of snot hanging from their noses, it's wild, and you gotta be a bit careful, they will blindly run into you at full speed or they can bite... Here's one I filmed when they were rebuilding the volley ball field so it was a bit messy and dusty: And here's a later one, last year when they volley ball field was ready, right in front of my house :) And here's a few pictures I took from an earlier Kuda Lumping dance....

KUDA LUMPING TRANCE DANCING

This is Kuda Lumping trance dancing, right in front of my house in Cihideung, Bandung about two years ago.... Dancers go into a deep trance, get possessed by spirits, change into animals, sometimes eat glass, rip apart coconuts with their teeth etc. In the second video you can see a guy carrying a bull puppet which is only done in Cihideung.....

JATHILAN / JARANAN OJO SEMBRONO VOL. 1

I was talking with Arrington de Dionyso a few days ago, and how this was his favorite Indonesian cassette. Posted this ages ago, link was dead, so I recorded it again and yes, he's right, this is great stuff.... Trance music from Middle Java, we call it Kuda Lumping here in West Java, over there they call it Kudho Praseno, dancers dance to this music with a small wooden/bamboo horse in front of them and they'll go into a deep trance. I've seen it once at the Dieng Plateau, close to YogYakarta and there the dancers would strangle themselves with a whip till they would pass out, foaming at the mouth.... Here in West Java I've seen it a bunch of times, different kind of music, also deep trance music and here the dancers will change into different kind of animals, vomiting, eating glass, tearing coconuts apart with their teeth, you name it. I love these kind of shows :)
