D E N Z D A D E N Z - VOLUME 1

Here's a mix cd put out by Eric Denz Da Denz who was a dj from Rotterdam. Eric van Doorn was a dj playing all over the city and all over Holland and I've seen him spin more times then I can remember, from when I started going out around 1980 till the late 90's... I was a dj in a restaurant/club, the Twijfelaer/B14 for two years and Eric would often come there to eat. Always funny because he would often run to the dj boot asking me what I was playing, specially hip hop, back then hip hop music was a type of music not much played in clubs, you had to go to concerts and a few special places to hear it... Around the end of '96 Eric asked me if I wanted to come work for him, spin for say two hours before he would do his set, in Nightown which, at the time, was one of the biggest and most succesful discotheques in Holland. Unfortunately I had to say no because I had a 4 month backpack trip planned, starting in Jakarta and ending in Bombay. Plan was to make my way, overland, from Jakarta to Bombay but I came to Bandung and I never left.... Sadly, Eric passed away in 2019 at the age of 61.... Rest In Peace Eric....

ADISON - D-DAY THE EP

Here's an ep from rapper Adison, born in my city of birth Rotterdam to Cape Verdean parents. Very nice guy, I would run into him and his buddy GMB every time I'd go to a hip hop concert in Rotterdam in the early 2000's and we always ended up in the smoking room smoking joints.... Went to the presentation of this ep and it was insane,. the place was packed, one of the best Dutch hip hop events I've witnessed really, I even managed to film some of it: GET IT HERE Enjoy!

FOOL MOON BAND

Back in the early 90's I would often go to the Fool Moon Parties in my old hometown, Rotterdam. Sometimes, in summer, they would have these parties in the small forest there, the Kralingse Bos, or they were in Nightown, a discotheque/concert hall, in the basement.... I would go there just to dance but people were invited to bring their own instruments (like 90% jembe's), later on they got a bit more organized and it would be just the Fool Moon Band playing.... In 1995 they put out this cassette.... Lot's of percussion, sitar, bells and didgeridoo.... GET IT HERE Enjoy!

NIEUW HIP STILEN MYSTERY TAPE!!

Now, Nieuw Hip Stilen was a band from Rotterdam, the members were Maarten van Gent – bass, drums, guitar, percussie and vocals, Jan Willem van Mook – bass, sax, keyboards, percussion and computer and Rutger van Otterloo – sax, drums and percussion....

In 1983 they played at one of the three legendary Pandora's Music Box festivals. Loads and loads of bands played there, basically the cream of the crop of underground bands from those days and this was one of my most favorite performances (as were Psychic TV, Einsturzende Neubauten, The Gun Club, Clock Dva, KIEM and a bunch of other bands.... I was standing in the front of this performance.... A while later, in 1983, I bought a cassette at the great Haddock Record Store in Rotterdam from Nieuw Hip Stilen and the concert at the Pandora's Music Box festival was on that cassette as were eight instrumentals, never released (without the vocals). And this is that cassette.... They only had that one cassette for sale and the mystery is that.... Well, I talked to their front man Maarten (who also played guitar in Rotterdam punk band the Rondos) about this cassette and they never released it, it's a mystery where this tape came from and who put it out....

So there you go, a nice little mystery at the end of 2025.... And great music to boot! GET IT HERE Enjoy!
