Wolfshead: The Legend of Robin Hood (1973)

Robin Hood adventure. UK. Starring David Warbeck, Kenneth Gilbert, Ciaran Madden & Sheraton Blount. Directed by John Hough.

S.T.V.P Video (Denmark). English language. Fullscreen.

This is the obscure pilot episode of a Hammer produced Robin Hood TV-series that never happened. It unsuccesfully tried to add a bit more realism to the formula. Pretty dire stuff, mostly of interest because a young David Warbeck played Robin (it's not hom on the cover though). 2/5

The Triumph of Robin Hood (1962)

Original title: Il Trionfo di Robin Hood

Robin Hood adventure. Italy. Starring Don Burnett, Samson Burke, Arturo Dominici & Germano Longo. Directed by Umberto Lenzi.

VML (Holland). French language with dutch subtitles. Fullscreen.

You could usually count on Umberto Lenzi to deliver a smashing good time in front of the TV (not counting his awful cannibal films) but this is a terrible Robin Hood film, ridden by inept performances, bland direction and brainmelting attempts at slapstick humour. Only of interest for sad euro-adventure collectors like me. Beware ye who enter here! 1/5

Robin Hood. Italy/Spain/France. Starring Giuliano Gemma, Mark Damon, Silvia Dionisio, Helga Liné, Mario Adorf, Daniele Dublino, Lars Bloch & Pierre Cressoy. Directed by Giorgio Ferroni.

Entertaining comic (non-slapstick, thankfully!) Robin Hood flick with a good cast and a likeable Gemma as Robin. 3/5

Robin Hood, Arrows, Beans and Karate (1976)

Original title: Storia di Arcieri, Pugni e Occhi Neri

Robin Hood/Comedy. Italy/Spain. Starring Alan Steel, Cris Huerta, Victoria Abril & Charly Bravo. Directed by Tonino Ricci.

VTC (Sweden). English dubbed. Widescreen.

Alan Steel is the overaged Robin Hood in this incredibly daft slapstick adventure, yet another opportunistic cheapie by hack director Ricci. I was expecting the worst but ended up liking this film quite a bit, albeit purely as entertaining trash: just turn off your brain and enjoy the zany humour, kung fu (!) and Steel's wretched performance! Just call me an idiot. 3/5

Robin Hood Never Dies (1975)

Original title: Robin Hood Nunca Muere

Robin Hood adventure. Spain. Starring Charly Bravo & Emma Cohen. Directed by Francesc Bellmunt.

Mariann Video (Sweden). English dubbed. Fullscreen.

Strange and dark (for a boys' adventure) spanish Robin Hood film in which Robin stays dead for the first half of the movie (!) but is reanimated (!!) in the second part. Lot's of crazyness courtesy of Charly Bravo: he laughs more like a madman than a cheerful adventure hero! For some reason it has lots of "Wickerman-ish" song numbers. I also suspect some hidden critisism of the Franco regime might have been intended by the makers. Not what many would call a good movie, but I liked it, it has its charm. 3/5
