Tarzan in King Salomon's Mines (1973)

Original title: Tarzán en las minas del rey Salomón

Jungle adventure. Spain. Starring David Carpenter & Paul Naschy. Directed by José Luis Merino.

Videofilm AB (Sweden). English dubbed. Fullscreen.

As far as euro-Tarzan ripp offs are conserned, this is the absolute bottom-of-the-barrell! But it's not without a certain Grade Z-charm. Z-Tarzan David Carpenter acts and looks brain-damaged (not surprised he never acted again) and spanish horror legend Paul Naschy plays the villian. 2/5

Maciste Contre la Reine des Amazones (1973)

Jungle adventure/Amazons/Erotica. France. Starring Val Davis, Lina Romay, Robert Woods, Kali Hansa & Alice Arno. Directed by Jesus Franco.

VML (Holland). French language. Letterboxed.

Sexy amazon cheapie by the king of euro-sleaze, Jess Franco. Silly fun. Don't be fooled by the Maciste-title though, it has nothing at all to do with the peplum series - in fact it's more a sleaze film than even an adventure film. 3/5

La Esclava Blanca (1985)

Jungle adventure. Spain. Starring Lina Romay, Mabel Escaño, Conchita Montes & Agustín Gil. Directed by Jesus Franco.

Video Fantasia (Spain). Spanish language. Fullscreen.

A couple of young newlyweds on honeymoon-safari are kidnapped by their guides and encounter savages, a gold treasure, a kung fu-kicking Lina Romay and much more... Very releaxed and entertaining no budget Franco flick, my favorite of his 1980s jungle adventures. 3/5

Gungala, Virgin of the Jungle (1967)

Jungle Adventure. Italy. Starring Kitty Swan. Directed by Romano Ferrara.

Video Show (Venezuela). English dubbed. Fullscreen.

Great "female Tarzan" flick with the lovely Kitty Swan, the queen of the jungle gals! 4/5

Golden Temple Amazons (1986)

Original title: Les Amazones du Temple D'or

Amazons/Jungle adventure. France. Starring Analía Ivars, William Berger, Antonio Mayans, Olivier Mathot, Eva León, Lina Romay, Alicia Príncipe & Emilio Linder. Directed by Alain Payet & Jesus Franco.

DVD: Shriek Show (USA). English dubbed. Widescreen. Good quality. The DVD cover has the credits confused with Franco's (better) Maciste Contre la Reine des Amazones!
Really, really dumb Eurociné cheapie that I believe was started by Franco and finished by pornographer Alain Payet. Pretty funny little film. 2/5

The Gorilla Kid (1977)

Original title: El Rey de los Gorillas

Jungle adventure. Mexico. Starring Hugo Stiglitz. Directed by René Cardona Jr.

DistriMax Inc. (USA). Spanish with english subtitles. Fullscreen. Not the best quality but just the subtitles makes it a must!

An infant is raised by men in gorilla costumes and grows up to be Hugo Stiglitz, the mexican and slightly more romantic Tarzan! As you understand this is 100% classic. Films don't get much better than this! 5/5

Jungle adventure. Spain/France. Starring Katja Bienert, Antonio Mayans, Aline Mess, Olivier Mathot, Daniel White, Lina Romay & Daniel Katz. Directed by Jesus Franco.

DVD: Shriek Show (USA). Widescreen. English dubbed. Good quality.

I was heavily intoxicated when I saw this (perhaps that's the proper way to watch it) but I remember quite liking it. Franco at his silliest. 3/5

Three Supermen in the Jungle (1970)

Original title: Che Fanno i Nostri Supermen Tra le Vergini della Giungla?

Superhero/Jungle adventure/Comedy. Italy/Spain. Starring Brad Harris, George Martin, Salvatore Borghese & Frank Braña. Directed by Bitto Albertini.

Derann Video (UK). English dubbed. Letterboxed.

This time the three dandy supermen encounters amazons, cannibals and goofy communists in the jungle. A fun spoof comedy, but not in the same class as the best in the series. 3/5

Zambo (1972)

Jungle adventure. Italy. Starring Brad Harris, Gisela Hahn, Daniele Vargas & Daniele Vargas. Directed by Bitto Albertini.

Very nice jungle adventure! 4/5

Treasure of the Amazon (1985)

Jungle adventure. Mexico. Starring Stuart Whitman, Donald Pleasence, John Ireland, Pedro Armendáriz Jr., Hugo Stiglitz, Bradford Dillman & Sonia Infante. Directed by René Cardona Jr.

DVD: Italian Shock (Holland). English language. Fullscreen. Not the best quality but at least it's uncut.

Very, very entertaining mexican adventure film! Stuart Whitman is the tough, aged adventurer who encounters nazis, cannibals, pirahnas and vicious crabs (!) on a treasure hunt in the amazon jungle. This surprisingly gory and exploative film is a personal favorite and probably my favorite adventure film of the 1980s (fuck Raiders of the Lost Ark!). You can always trust the Cardona's. 5/5

Africa Express (1976)

Jungle adventure/Comedy. Italy/West Germany. Starring Giuliano Gemma, Ursula Andress & Jack Palance. Directed by Michele Lupo.

Hemvideo Film (Sweden). English dubbed. Letterboxed.

Lighthearted jungle slapstick fun with Gemma, Andress, Palance and Biba the chimp! (who steals the show) 3/5

Tarzan and the Jungle Mystery (1973)

Original title: Tarzán y el Misterio de la Selva

Jungle adventure. Spain. Starring Richard Yesteran, Marina Ferri & Didi Sherman. Directed by Miguel Iglesias.

VTC (Sweden). English dubbed. Fullscreen.

Very obscure spanish Tarzan ripp off. No matter how much I try not to I always compare these films to the great Caño/Hawkes/Swan collaborations, but it's not the same thing. While those films added something fresh to the Tarzan formula, the others are very much your standard, cheap B-film ripp offs. However, viewed as mindless cheezy entertainment this is one of the funnier. You have to love Richard Yesteran as the Grade Z Tarzan, his yell always cracks me up (if you think he was bad, watch David Carpenter in Tarzan in King Salomon's Cave... or rather, don't)! 3/5 (entertainment value)

Tarzan and the Brown Prince (1972)

Original title: Tarzán y el Arco Iris

Jungle adventure. Spain/Italy/Philippines. Starring Steve Hawkes, Kitty Swan & Peter Lee Lawrence. Directed by Manuel Caño.

VTC (Sweden). English dubbed. Letterboxed.

The follow-up to Zan, King of the Jungle, again starring the great screen-couple Steve Hawkes and Kitty Swan. It's a very special jungle film with some great scenes, but it's not on pair with the first film. There's a sad reason for this. Steve and Kitty were badly burned in an accident during the shooting and the producers (desperate for something to release?) decided to add a new story about a little black kid trying to prove himself to his tribe. Those sequences are not bad but takes up too much of the film's running time, needless to say there's too little Tarzan/jungle girl action. Despite its for natural reasons uneveness i'd say this is the next best spanish Tarzan ripp off (which is hardly saying much to most people). 3/5

Zan, King of the Jungle (1969)

Original title: Tarzán en la Gruta del Oro

Jungle adventure. Spain/Italy/Puerto Rico. Starring Steve Hawkes, Kitty Swan, Krista Nell, Jesús Puente, Fernando Sancho, Raf Baldassarre & Ugo Sasso. Directed by Manuel Caño.

VTC (Sweden). English dubbed. Letterboxed.

The first, and best of the string of cheap, unauthorized Tarzan films that was produced in Spain during the late 60s/early 70s (here Tarzan was called Zan in most countries due to legal matters). Great fun all the way - Steve Hawkes is the coolest Tarzan, Kitty Swan the best jungle girl, the music is great and everything moves a long at fast pace (Umberto Lenzi's script throws in everything from amazons too men in gorilla suits). Recommended. 4/5

King of Kong Island (1968)

Original title: Eva, la Venere Selvaggia

Sci-Fi/Jungle adventure. Italy. Starring Brad Harris, Esmeralda Barros & Marc Lawrence. Directed by Roberto Mauri.

Mariann Video (Sweden). English dubbed. Letterboxed.

Not quite as good as the cover promises, but how could it be? A veeery cheezy film that won't be for everybody. It throws in a little bit of everything: a mad scientist, mindcontrolled gorillas, Brad Harris flexing his muscles and of course a semi-naked jungle girl. I had fun with it. 3/5

Gungala, the Naked Panther (1968)

Original title: Gungala la Pantera Nuda

Jungle adventure. Italy. Starring Kitty Swan. Directed by Ruggero Deodato.

Video Art (Greece). English dubbed. Fullscreen.

Compared to the first Gungala this is a pretty weak and charmfree film. But it's got jungle gal numero uno, Kitty Swan, semi-naked in the jungle and of course that makes up for a lot of its shortcomings. 3/5

Tarzan and the Valley of Gold (1966)

Jungle adventure (sort of). USA/Switzerland/Mexico. Starring Mike Henry, David Opatoshu, Nancy Kovack & Manuel Padilla Jr. Directed by Robert Day.

Silver Video Productions (Greece). English language. Letterboxed. Very battered print with lots of jumps and scratches.

The kind of movie that would make Tarzan nostalgics go crazy, this trashy flick has Tarzan entering civlization as a James Bond-type hero, he even uses firearms! You can say a lot of things about this film but it's not boring... 3/5
