UNO Birthday Party

We celebrated Blake's first birthday a little early on Saturday with an "UNO theme." Get it? The weather outside was really windy and about five minutes into the party, we lost power. Luckily most of the food was already cooked and it was still light outside so it wasn't a major catastrophe. We had a great time celebrating with family and friends! Going along with the theme, we had a taco lunch, cupcakes, and even busted open a pinata at the end.

A little timid at first....
That's my boy...

Thanks to everyone who helped make it such a fun and memorable day!!

Punkin Patch

We had a rare beautiful Saturday in October today so we couldn't resist the chance to go to the pumpkin patch to take some pictures of our little punkin'. Earlier this morning we found a great deal on his sock monkey costume that he looks adorable in! At one point, Blake tried to get a taste of the pumpkins and as you can see from his face, he seemed a bit dissapointed.

BLAHg

Yes, I realize my blog lately has been blah. A whole lot a nuttin. And yes, I realize that people always say "sorry I haven't posted in so long I swear I'm better now." And res I realize, I myself have said this before and have fallen off the blogwagon a few times afterward. So I'm just going to avoid all of that altogether and just say I'm back. :)

Things around our house have been tons of fun lately. We've been travelling and have even had some friends come to visit. Blake is getting so big. At his six month appointment he was 16lbs 15ounces and was 28 inches long. He can get up into the hands and knees position but hasn't quite figured out how to move forward. We aren't in any hurry though since we still have some babyproofing to do. We have tons of pictures from our recent adventures that I'm working on uploading so I can have lots of fun posts in the near future. Until then, here's a little picture of Blake and I playing today.

4 months

Don't they say time flies when you're having fun? Well then it's no wonder two months have gone by in the blink of an eye! Blake is growing up right before our eyes and has become such a funny little guy already. We had his four month appt on Monday and here are his stats:

Height: 26.5 inches (>95th percentile)
Weight: 14 lbs 2 ounces (50th percentile)

He's really started laughing a lot. He loves playing peek a boo in the mirror and cracks up at himself every time he sees the baby in the mirror. He plays a lot in his exercauser sp? while I work next to him. He reaches for everything around him and has discovered how to make all of his car seat toys make noise and light up which has made car rides a lot more entertaining. When his toys fail, he has figured out how to screech at the top of his lungs and notices that gets peoples' attention more quickly than quietly gabbing.

Help

As I've mentioned before on this blog, my dad seems to be the trendestter when it somes to technology, music, and especially books. He recently reccommended to me a book I should LISTEN to. (He uses the website program audible.com to get books to listen to.) Anyway, I loaded it up thinking I would give it a try sometime. On the way down to vegas, I started the listen and was HOOKED in a matter of minutes. Part of it was the story, and a big part was the narration. You have to listen to this book! It's about the "help" in Jackson, Mississippi in the 60's. It's narrated by two black maids and one white woman who cummalteively give very interesting perspectives of what it was like to live in their situations back then. You will laugh, cry, think, laugh so more, and be glues to your iPod, iPhone, or whatever other listening device you may use. You can find the link here. Go ahead and listen to the preview, but as a warning....once you start, you won't be able to stop.
