City scene
Another sunny but "oh, so cold" day in Moscow. That is why I decided not to leave my place today. And I chose this photo, taken 3 weeks ago. It is another view from Victory Memorial Complex. Here you see the far outlines of Moscow University.

Michael Lomonosov
This is the monument to Michael Lomonosov, a famous Russian scientist who lived in XVIIIth century. A son of penniless fisherman, at the age of 19 he walked from Arkhangelsk to Moscow (over 1200km!) to get education. In Moscow he pretended to be a nobleman and thus joined Slavic Greek Latin Academy where very soon he proved a brilliancy of his mind. Later Lomonosov continued learning natural science, literature, chemistry, physics, history and so on. He made a number of important discoveries and inventions, and his contribution into science and education can not be undervalued.
In 1755 great influence of Lomonosov helped to found Moscow University which was named after him later. In honour of its founder there is a monument in front of the oldest university building (that hosts Journalism Faculty nowadays).
More information on Michael Lomonosov can be found here.

Photo on demand: Moscow University
I promissed to publish a better photograph of Moscow University, and here you go. University occupies a few dozens in various parts of Moscow, and this is but the main building. It was build in 1953, is nearly 300 meters high (36 stores + spire of 58m), contains everything required by students and teachers: classrooms, laboratories, hostel, apartments, eateries, shops, cultural center and so on.

Photo on demand: Moscow University
A few days back Lavenderlady asked for a photo of Moscow University buildings. Well, here it is. I need to apologize for the quality, though - I found this picture in my archive and believe it's rather sick angle of view, but I didn't yet have a chance to take another shot, although I definitely will.
As for now, let me introduce you to the Main Building of the University of Moscow, as it looks from south view. It was built on the high bank of Moscow River during Stalin era and represents a grand specimen of Soviet Empire style. The tower shown in this picture is but a small section of that huge and beautiful building.
P.S. If you would like to see any particular part of the city or scene of Moscow life, please let me know :)
