AMAZING Georgian House Tour

This home that I'm sharing today is a completely amazing example of what we were talking about last time. I first saved this beautiful Georgian home maybe seven years ago and I've just stumbled across it again today.

Amazing Georgian House Tour on Modern Country Style

It still looks every bit as gorgeous as when I first excitedly discovered it all those years ago.

And that's a sign worth listening to.

With so many passing fads in an increasingly fast-changing world, how can you know which are the looks that will endure?

Amazing Georgian House Tour on Modern Country Style

Again, my answer is this: by looking back through your archive of hastily torn out pictures from magazines from years back, or your older Pinterest favourites, or wherever it is that you store away precious inspiration images, you'll find your sense of timeless style coming to the fore.

Amazing Georgian House Tour on Modern Country Style

You'll find that some aspect won't excite you any more (there have been some pretty crazy crazes!) but there will be plenty that will. And it's exactly those elements that you should always try to incorporate into any new project because its those same elements that will continue to excite you in ten, twenty years to come.

So, let's take this beautiful Georgian home as our example. What is it that still sings out to me today? I love the colour scheme.

Muted naturals have always, always, ALWAYS made me heart stop in its tracks. I can first remember noticing a muted natural in our family tablecloth when I was a very, very little girl. And it's those same colours that I reach for now because I know that, for me, they stand the test of time.

And please do note that  essential "for me" in itallics in the previous paragraph. Taste, lasting taste, is as deeply personal as current fads are ephemeral. You're looking for the loves of your life, not a dull one-night-stand. We want true and lasting romance, don't we!?

And, it'll come as no surprise when I say that I completely adore the carefully curated mix here of Modern and Country styles.

For me, I'll never tire of Modern Country Style because the Modern aspect keeps shifting as time passes, and the Country aspect just pleases me through and through!

Yes. Modern Country Style runs deeply in my veins!

Cream And Grey Home Tour

Do you remember I shared this gorgeous Modern Country kitchen?
Is it dreamy?!

Limpley Stoke chateau / country house rental - Kitchen

Would you like to see the rest of the (equally gorgeous and equally Modern Country style) house? We need to go through the kitchen to get to,,,

Back inside, I love the proportions of the living room, and its walls of palest creamy-grey...

Upstairs, the same colour palette prevails. Lots of cream and lots of grey....

I love it! It works so well to create a beautifully cohesive scheme...

Try Farrow and Ball Cornforth White or Little Greene French Grey for a similar feel.

And will you look at that stunning view?

Even the outside of the house has a cream and grey theme! Now I'm thinking where I can use this look in our house!

Stunning English Cottage Tour!!!

For aaaages I've separately obsessed over two of the rooms in this post: the kitchen and the bathroom....then, today, I realised that they were part of one very gorgeous English cottage renovation project! It's the house that won Period Living's Readers' Choice Award back in 2011. But, as with all great decorating, it's really stood the test of time. Time for a house tour? You betcha!!

This sweet cottage has undergone a complete renovation but you wouldn't know it....

...all the fixtures and fittings have been given such consideration that they look utterly in keeping with the fabric of the house.

Limed oak flooring and woodwork in Neptune's Honed Slate work together to create a striking kitchen.

white and wood kitchen with retro cooker

The owner had surviving original parts of the skirting boards and picture rails copied to keep the look authentic. I've found that choosing good quality replacements always pays off.

I love how they've chosen apparently disjointed furnishings; nothing seems to match, yet they all work together beautifully.

Stripping back old plasterwork to reveal stone or brick always creates a wow factor - and for very little money (just a lot of dust!!).

 Bare brick fireplace!

The whole house apparently only took £45k, which is an incredible achievement.

It was the kitchen and this bathroom (below) that originally captured my Modern Country Style heart!

The bath is painted in Farrow and Ball's French Gray.

We have a bathroom up on our top floor that has a sloping ceiling like this gorgeous specimen.

And, in the interest of looking ahead to that renovation, I'm putting together a post featuring 50 of the very best attic bathrooms. Coming soon!

Inside The World's Only Modern Country Georgian Newbuild!!

Could you not resist coming back to see the inside of the wowsers Georgian home I showed you last time, which had been moved stone by laborious stone thirty miles away to the new owners- dream location.

Gorgeous Georgian newbuild!

Let's begin our tour in this magnificent hallway. The floors are an opilent mix of Cotswold and Portland stone. Isn't the design lovely? Fired Earth Bone White is a similar paint colour to this softest, palest grey.

Modern Country hallway

Grey is a key shade in this home, which brings a real sense of the contemporary, contrasting beautifully with the rural setting.

As well as the five bedrooms, it also boasts four reception rooms, four bathrooms and is situated in five acres of land

Modern Country Style in its element, you might say! Is it any wonder that I love it so much!

Modern Country French style dining room

The kitchen diner is significantly more rustic than the other rooms, and has an interesting mix of French chic in the dining area and then ultra sleek in he kitchen.

I love all the open fires here! They're certainly not original and are the wrong era entirely but they somehow add to the period feel of the house.

Modern Country living room

The last of the reception rooms; shall we call this one the snug?... This room combines the greys used so effectively in the rest of the house. Little Greene's Lead would look beautiful in this setting.

Modern Country snug

And then on to the gardens! This Georgian house is set in five acres of stunning countryside so the garden has the most perfect backdrop. Can you imagine lounging in those chairs with a glass of something sparkly!?

Modern Country garden

Even the garden has its own Modern Country style, with its parterres and topiary, softened wth gently romantic planting.

Modern Country garden

Yes, I'd say all my Modern Country Style boxes have been ticked!

Take care until next time,

Can You Believe This Georgian Home Was Moved From 30 Miles Away!?

Well, this is the one of the most bizarre home stories I've shared... At first glance, this gorgeous Georgian gem looks as though it's centuries old. Does it have you fooled?!

Modern Country Georgian Home set in the Cotwolds

Would you believe me if I said that it had been moved, stone by stone, from 30 miles away? This is how it was originally....see how the roof and porch are much simpler, the windows are less grand and there are no columns in sight:

www.moderncountrystyle.com

Yup, You read that right! The owners dismantled this 18th century house from Wiltshire and their builder painstakingly rebuilt it in Gloucestershire to create the look you see here...so it is, in a rather special way, a new build!

www.moderncountrystyle.com

And the most bizarre thing of all, after all that hassle and planning permission quandaries, is that the home was put on the market for sale a couple of years after the mammoth project finished for a whopping £3.75 million, giving the owners very little time to enjoy the fruit of their labours.

It all started when he owners couldn't find a home to their liking in their chosen location in the Cotswolds. And what a jaw-dropping location it is! The new house is set in five acres in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The good news is that the original house was due to be taken down anyway. It was completely derelict and riddled with damp issues. So this was not architectural vandalism but, rather, a case of rescuing an old treasure.

The 'new' house has five bedrooms. four bathrooms and four stunning reception rooms, all with a firm nod to its proud Georgian history but fully embracing the 21st century.

Shall we take a look around inside?

It's, no real surprise, completely gorgeous!...but you'll have to come back next time to see!
{What a tease, I know!}

Although this is a holiday rental, one of the ways in which the owners have stopped it seeming too clinical, is by including lots of little reading nooks in tucked away spaces...

It was the dining area that first caught my eye. I am obsessed with the mix of rustic and luxury in this Cotswold home. They've walked that line brilliantly, don't you think?
