Syut 談風:vs:再說 January 2016 Menu

SYUT January 2016 Specials
A wonderful little place hidden in Ngau Tau Kok's industrial area. It's within 10 minutes walk from my office and we've been to this place so many times, it's not even funny. Whenever we have visitors from our other offices, we bring them here. Birthdays or special occasions, this place would always be one of the choices. Other than my colleagues and I, this place is mostly full of young, good looking and super chic people. Opppps. Sorry, colleagues.

We love the decor of the place, the open kitchen, and some of the chefs have long hair, man bun, and/or facial hair. I am very very partial to those things. Ahem.

OK, moving on to the food... they change the menu every month. It is best to visit this place at the beginning of the month, as at the end of the month they are often out of some ingredients from their monthly menu.

We've tried these from their January specials.
SYUT January 2016 Specials
One of us is vegetarian, and we're happy that they always have at least one vegetarian option. This is the rocket pesto pasta. It comes with 64 degree egg (my colleague doesn't eat egg, so we requested without), shimeji mushrooms, and roasted onion. The flavors are a tad too subtle for my colleague, but after a dash of Tabasco and a few sprinkles of grated Parmesan, it's all good.

SYUT January 2016 Specials
One of us picked the stout pasta from the January specials - it comes with pumpkin sauce, roast onion, and check out that strings of cheese...

SYUT January 2016 Specials
We also tried the chicken - with lemongrass coconut cream, lime gel and black garlic puree. The lime gel is the highlight that brightens up the dish, and of course... them crispy paper-thin fried chicken skin!

SYUT January 2016 Specials
DAT PLATE! Syut plates things so beautifully, it's crazy! This is the sauteed squid - with sea urchin white wine sauce, ink gnocchi and daikon slices. Very delicate flavors (a tad too delicate) with interesting combination of different textures. It looked and sounded much better than it tastes, unfortunately.

SYUT January 2016 Specials
My favorite from this month's menu, the mackerel - with black olive polenta cake, chorizo, basil oil, green olive and dried tomatoes. Bold and bright flavors. The polenta cakes are crispy outside and piping hot inside, the chorizo slices are so crispy, the fish perfectly cooked, and the tomatoes brought everything together. Absolutely delicious and so beautiful to look at. I licked my plate clean.

SYUT January 2016 Specials
The pine tree ice cream dessert is so good! Served with homemade dried fruits toast and peanut butter jelly. Those green strands are all edible. Very refreshing!

SYUT January 2016 Specials
The chocolate financiers with bergamot sorbet, chocolate jelly, chocolate "chips" and popping candy. That's no financier, it's more like a (very good) molten chocolate cake, with more chocolate served in different textures and balanced out with very tangy bergamot sorbet. We really really likey!

Price: about HKD150 per person.
Lunch sets include bread, coffee or tea, or 50% special drinks (their mixed berries soda or mint ginger soda are very nice).

Meat Lovers Dinner, Blue Butcher Hong Kong

Blue Butcher, Hong Kong
That's what generally happens when you have a bunch of bloggers eating together :)

The meaty journey started with this bone marrow dish.
Blue Butcher, Hong Kong
Delish, I wanted to use a straw to suck the marrow out. But I was in the company of new friends... so maybe next time. Sucking marrow via straw is more like a second date kinda thing, right?

Blue Butcher, Hong Kong
The spanish ham & egg with asparagus mushrooms and thyme. Yummy.

Blue Butcher, Hong Kong
Rare breed US Kurobuta pork belly & cheek with lentils and Granny Smith apple slaw. Tender 24 hr cooked meat, perfectly cooked lentils and I love the slaw - really refreshing.

Blue Butcher, Hong Kong
Love the fries plus plus.

Blue Butcher, Hong Kong
The ribs. I love how tender the meat is, but the sauce is a tad on a sweet side for me. A tiny bit more kick of savoriness would be perfect for me.

Blue Butcher, Hong Kong
I adore the cheesy cauliflower side dish.

Blue Butcher, Hong Kong
And love love LOVE the steak. LOVE!

And the drinks!
Blue Butcher, Hong Kong
I always adore the idea of turning something savory into something sweet or vice versa. So I really wanted to try this fig and cheese cocktail. I like the flavors, the only thing is... the foam left me with blue cheese foam mustache. Something for my date to wipe off my face adoringly? :)

Blue Butcher, Hong Kong
I like how the drink is encased in a block of ice.

Blue Butcher, Hong Kong
This is "The Flapper" - Chambord, sherry brandy and orange bitters. I like it.

Sweets.
Blue Butcher, Hong Kong
Chocolate, banana, caramel.

Blue Butcher, Hong Kong
Lemon Cappuccino. Cool idea.

To conclude, I love the meat dishes, would totally go back. The place is cool too, a great place to hang out on special occasions. If you're into food photography, bring your best low light lens or external flash or use your phone as additional lighting ;)

Thank you for having me, Blue Butcher!

James' Kitchen - Private Kitchen, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong

James Kitchen, Tsim Shat Tsui, Hong Kong
Good deal decent dinner! We had the privilege to order the VIP members only set dinner because my colleague is the chef's secondary classmate! Yay! We love good deals!

James' Special Platter.
James Kitchen, Tsim Shat Tsui, Hong Kong
Salad with Serrano ham. Nothing earth shattering...

James Kitchen, Tsim Shat Tsui, Hong Kong
Poached egg salad with black truffle paste. The egg's poached beautifully, but I am maxed out on black truffle paste. I wish there's more dressing with more acid and seasoning.

James Kitchen, Tsim Shat Tsui, Hong Kong
Yummy yummy oysters. Many of my colleagues don't eat oysters, which means - more for me!

James Kitchen, Tsim Shat Tsui, Hong Kong
Love the foie T_T really really love it. Pear's poached perfectly. Yum max!

James Kitchen, Tsim Shat Tsui, Hong Kong
Duck soup. Very well seasoned, very tasty. I finished every single drop of it. And I'm not even a soup person :)

James Kitchen, Tsim Shat Tsui, Hong Kong
Spinach & cheese homemade ravioli with king prawn. Perfectly cooked prawns, decent ravioli. The creamy sauce is a tad to sweet for me though. I wanted more salt and acid.

James Kitchen, Tsim Shat Tsui, Hong Kong
Perfectly cooked and well seasoned Australian grain-fed rib eye steak. It's served with black pepper sauce, which is yum. But I am not a big fan of the lotus root chunks, sweet potato mash, and taro crisp part. I was happy to just demolish the steak.

Now... some serious desserts. They are mostly yummy and the servings are generous. Value for money!
James Kitchen, Tsim Shat Tsui, Hong Kong
Epic baked Alaska. There are black sesame mochi ice cream balls hidden underneath. We LOVE!

James Kitchen, Tsim Shat Tsui, Hong Kong
Creme brulee. Yummy.

James Kitchen, Tsim Shat Tsui, Hong Kong
75% dark chocolate cake. It's yummy too.... until I had the next one...

James Kitchen, Tsim Shat Tsui, Hong Kong
My photo didn't do this molten chocolate cake justice. It's absolutely delicious! Love it!
My colleagues signed up for VIP membership as soon as they finished dinner :)
And because of my colleague, we got a platter of free dessert too - yay! Thanks, Chef!

My Birthday Lunch at Gaddi's - The Peninsula Hong Kong

My sparkly birthday lunch date with SC at Gaddi's.
Birthday Lunch 2012 at Gaddi's The Peninsula Hong Kong
I love the croissant. I ate three of them :D

Birthday Lunch 2012 at Gaddi's The Peninsula Hong Kong
I ordered the Ladies' Leisure Lunch, it comes with a non-alcoholic Bellini, which is great for me (I hate champagne based cocktails T_T). I love it!

Birthday Lunch 2012 at Gaddi's The Peninsula Hong Kong
SC's set lunch comes with a glass of wine, and it's very very delicious (this means a lot coming from someone who dislikes wine). And he insisted that I took this shot ^_^'
I'm glad I did. I love my 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens! Affordable, super light, super cute, sharp, with killer bokeh! (No, Canon didn't pay me to suddenly plug this ad in the middle of my blog post. I just love it THAT much).

Birthday Lunch 2012 at Gaddi's The Peninsula Hong Kong
My appetizer, smoked eggplant caviar with sliced marinated duck liver. It looks pretty, but I didn't really enjoy the mushy eggplant.

Birthday Lunch 2012 at Gaddi's The Peninsula Hong Kong
SC's appetizer's so pretty! It's sea bream tartar with whipped lemon cream and herring roe. Very light and refreshing. Love it.

Birthday Lunch 2012 at Gaddi's The Peninsula Hong Kong
My soup, shellfish consomme with lobster dumpling. Light, fragrant, tasty. It's nice.

Birthday Lunch 2012 at Gaddi's The Peninsula Hong Kong
My main, pan fried Australian beef filet with colorful carrots. Love it. Perfectly cooked meat. I adore.

Birthday Lunch 2012 at Gaddi's The Peninsula Hong Kong
SC had the beef cheek bourguignon with winter vegetables. It's lovely but it felt way to heavy for lunch. We should've picked something lighter.

Birthday Lunch 2012 at Gaddi's The Peninsula Hong Kong
SC's dessert, winter fruit compote with milk chocolate sphere and mandarin sherbet. Love the tart fruits & chocolate combo.

Birthday Lunch 2012 at Gaddi's The Peninsula Hong Kong
My dessert's a surprise. The Gaddi's sweet taste surprise (the name's a bit weird eh?). I am not a big fan of this dessert platter...not decadent enough to celebrate the depressing event of getting older. My bad. I shouldn't have ordered something I don't know, like... a surprise. Argh, I knew I wasn't a "ladies lunch" material.

Here's the obligatory couple photo.

Outfit posts here: SC's or mine.

And he had to do this while waiting for our food... he's so proud of it, he made me record a video T_T

Sunday Roast at St Betty, IFC, Central, Hong Kong

St Betty Sunday Roast, Central, Hong Kong
Look at that scrumptious spread! Went to try St Betty's famous Sunday Roast with a couple of friends including blogger Gastronomous Anonymous. Since we're crazy big eater, we were wondering if the Sunday Roast set's gonna be enough for us. We were assured that it'd be enough (look at the above scrumptious spread!), but since we're greedy bastards, we ordered more anyway.
Portion control has always been our problem.

We also ordered the ox heart tomato with pesto, dried black olives with 8 year old balsamic vinegar.
St Betty Sunday Roast, Central, Hong Kong
It's hilarious how we've overlooked the word "tomato" since we had our eyes fixed on the words "ox heart". We were totally shocked and couldn't believe what we saw when the tomato salad arrived. Our bad! Fortunately, it looked amazing and tasted fantastic. Phew!

We ordered this sweetcorn fritters with ricotta, corn salsa and morteau sausage  for baby Marcus, who is now no longer a baby, he's now a cute two year old with a healthy appetite.
St Betty Sunday Roast, Central, Hong Kong
We thought we could feed him a bit of this and share the rest, but unexpectedly, Marcus could pretty much finish the whole plate and we only got to try one tiny bite each. It's absolutely delicious!

The Sunday Roast's SUPER YUMMY! I especially LOVE the roast beef, yorkshire pudding, and the Chinese cabbage confit with Japanese bacon. Perfectly cooked beef, fluffy yorkshire pudding, and tasty veggie with bacon! I adore! Plus horseradish cream? I pretty much slathered everything with that.
St Betty Sunday Roast, Central, Hong Kong
The set also came with roast potatoes and crushed root veggies. I don't mind them, but I'd rather concentrate of my favorites :D

We almost ordered extra desserts, but luckily our server reminded us that the Sunday Roast includes this yummy rhubarb crumble.
St Betty Sunday Roast, Central, Hong Kong
SC helped me with that money shot :D

Buttery deliciousness! Not too sweet, but sufficiently rich & satisfying. I like!
St Betty Sunday Roast, Central, Hong Kong

SC & Marcus had fun enjoying the crumble too!
St Betty Sunday Roast, Central, Hong Kong
Everybody were stuffed to the brim, but we (I) managed to finish most of the beef. Heheheh.

The meal's a tad pricey (HK$440 per person but that's because we were so greedy & ordered lots) but I do love their beef. Hmmm beef. I crave some right now.
