Very refreshing!

Meatless Monday Japanese PotLuck Party
Vegetarian pork chop - again, really close to the real deal. I was completely shocked.

To go with the pork chop cutlet, I made this.
Colorful. Japanese vegetable curry for #meatlessmonday #potluck at work :)
Vegetable Japanese curry.
It went really well with the vegetarian pork chop.
I generally have no access to mock meat, so I try to make do without.
The curry has carrot, potatoes, baby corn, broccoli, and mushrooms. Very colorful!
I used my favourite S&B Japanese curry cubes.
Oh, actually I can't take any credits for this. My wonderful helper did it, I simply gave her instructions ;)

Meatless Monday Potluck Party

Meatless Monday Potluck Party - 14 September 2015
How to combat Monday blues?
We do it by having #MeatlessMonday potluck party every week and it works!
We choose a theme and plan what we're going to bring (we can't have 6 noodle dishes, no? Nobody would be able to work after that).

We love our #meatlessmonday so far.
It's exciting, it makes us look forward to Mondays, it challenges us, and it makes us realise that meatless does not mean not good!

So here's our menu this week.
The theme is Asian.
Meatless Monday Potluck Party - 14 September 2015
Mushrooms and veggies lettuce wraps.

Meatless Monday Potluck Party - 14 September 2015
How adorable! Tasty too!

Meatless Monday Potluck Party - 14 September 2015
Nam yue (fermented tofu) "pork belly", dried shiitake mushrooms, glass noodles, napa cabbage and beancurd sheets stew.

Meatless Monday Potluck Party - 14 September 2015
Vegetarian "pork belly"!
It's amazing how they can mimick the appearance and texture of the fatty part of pork belly.

Meatless Monday Potluck Party - 14 September 2015
Beancurd wrapped sticky rice cake and glass noodles in tomato broth.

Meatless Monday Potluck Party - 14 September 2015
Too cute!

What did I make?
I made gado-gado, a very popular Indonesian salad.
gado gado 1
Blanched: long beans, mini napa cabbage (because I dislike cabbage), beansprouts.
Boiled potatoes and hard boiled eggs.
Fresh tomatoes & cucumber.
Fried: tempe chunks, tofu puffs, crispy sweet potato or crackers.
Dressing: gado-gado peanut dressing + lime.

gado gado 2
Yum!
I made a version without boiled egg and dressing without garlic and shallot for our vegetarian friend (dressing = crushed roasted peanuts + salt + palm sugar + lime).

And our dessert!
Our dessert was given a freedom not to follow the Asian theme, because.. cheesecake.
We want cheesecake. Cheesecake is Asian. Cheesecake is everything.
Meatless Monday Potluck Party - 14 September 2015
It's no-bake blueberry cheesecake, with reduced sugar and no egg too!

Meatless Monday Potluck Party - 14 September 2015
So light and yummy!

Next week's theme: Japanese.
Looking forward to it :)

Party Perfect: Crispy Chicken & Veggie Dumplings

Golden delicious, super cute looking & highly addictive. Perfect snack to serve your guests at a party. It's not hard to make (except the deep frying part - I know, I know) & the veggie in the filling gives it a crunch & sweetness as if there were chunks of prawns. Genius!

This is my helper's recipe. She is da bomb, she rules my kitchen! I know, I am soooo blessed.

Recipe
Filling:
- 2 chicken legs (or breast) filled, skin removed & minced
- 1/2 cup frozen veggie (cubed carrots, corn & peas)
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tsp corn starch
- 1/3 tsp salt
- a pinch of chicken stock powder (optional)
- a pinch of sugar
Skin:
- spring roll skin (square ones), cut into 4
- oil for frying

Mix filling ingredients in a bowl. Prepare spring roll skin. Add 1 heaping tsp of filling in the middle of wrapper & bring the 4 corners together to form a pocket. Deep fry just before serving. Serve with sweet chilli sauce or mayo.

The cute yummies shall be gone in no time.
Crunch crunch crunch.

PS. Drink lots of water or herbal tea after sinful treat ;)

Hello Kitty X Swarovski Launch Party at The Four Seasons, Hong Kong

Hello Kitty x Swarovski Launch
What would a food blogger do in a Hello Kitty x Swarovski party?

She'd stop every tray of canape.
Photograph the food.
And eat them.

Black Truffle Pate, Mixed Mushrooms & Prosciutto Pizza from Our Weekend Pizza Party

Truffle Paste, Mixed Mushrooms & Prosciutto Pizza
My two girlfriends and I tried to make our own pizza last weekend. Actually they made the pizza, I was just busy trying to calm super cranky baby M down.. ^_^'

We (i.e. actually it was mostly Ieie, she did all the kneading!) made the dough following this recipe. The recipe is pretty easy to follow (easy for me to say as I was not the one who kneaded the dough heheheh) and we're pretty pleased with the result.

We made two kinds of pizza...the one which impressed me the most was the one with this black truffle pate.
Black Truffle Pate

The dough was simply rolled thinly, placed on a well oiled baking tray.
Black Truffle Pate & Mixed Mushrooms Pizza before Baking
Spread quite a bit of the black truffle pate, add chunks of mixed mushrooms, season with salt and black pepper, topped generously with grated cheese (we used a mix of mozzarella, parmesan and cheddar), and bake for about 15-20 minutes in a 250C preheated oven.

Truffle Paste, Mixed Mushrooms & Prosciutto Pizza
Once it's out of the oven, we added more black truffle pate and placed a few pieces of prosciutto. Let them fold casually like cute little rosebuds.

Truffle Paste, Mixed Mushrooms & Prosciutto Pizza
Absolutely fragrant and delicious!

As for the other pizza...
Salami, Bacon, Cheeses, Asparagus & Cherry Tomato Pizza
We just slathered the dough with a bit of ketchup (oppps, but it's yummy, trust me), added some grated cheeses, salami and bacon, topped with more cheeses, added halved cherry tomatoes, and some baby asparagus. After baking, we added some fresh basil leaves from my tiny herb garden. Yummy!

Baby M was super cranky and clingy the whole time, I had to carry him around with me, even when I tried to  take some pictures. Thanks to Ieie for documenting this crazy-bad-mama moment ^_^

We ended the meal with Ieie's homemade tiramisu topped with fresh berries and some bad Sunday TV (it's TVB Jade's latest variety show where we had to guess the girl among drag queens).
Ieie's Tiramisu
Good food, good company, bad TV.
What could be better than that?

I'll post more pictures from the night on my Facebook page.

The Making & Behind the Scene - Hello Kitty Food Blogger Sausage Sculpture for the Cock Up

Hello Kitty Food Blogger - My Blog is Cuter Than Yours - Cocktail Sausage Food Sculpture
All the mess and madness before the cocktail sausage cook up.

I didn't plan to make a sausage sculpture before, I knew cutetifying food isn't my forte.
Hello Kitty Food Blogger - My Blog is Cuter Than Yours - Cocktail Sausage Food Sculpture

What did I plan to make?
Welcome to my Hall of FAILURES.
Cocktail Sausage Cheesecake
Cocktail Sausage Savoury Cheesecake.
The idea sounded good in my head, I used Maid brand's honey cocktail sausages, they're a bit sweet, so I thought they would work. I thought of making tarts instead of a huge cake, topped with glazed apples, peaches, or grapes, or a mix of fruits...maybe garnished with a piece of thinly sliced, deep fried crispy cocktail sausage.

Wow. Ambitious, wasn't I?

Well, obviously, I failed. Hard.
Cocktail Sausage Cheesecake
I food processed the cocktail sausages into the cheesecake batter. The cheesecake ended up fluffy, more Japan than New York, which was fine, but the tiny bits of sausage made the cake super weird, and not in a good way. I probably should've left them sliced to give the cake bits of bite. You can see that I've failed the cream cracker crust too. I was too impatient waiting for it to set. Oppps.
I'll do better next time...

Apple Cocktail Sausage Savoury Crumble
Apple, Pear & Cocktail Sausage Savoury Crumble
Again, the idea sounded good in my head, but the whole thing tasted so damn weird. I should've probably leave the fruits uncooked or pickled. Crisp the sausages and make the crumble separately and assemble them together in small shot glasses or something. This crumble topping was savoury, maybe I should've made the crumble topping sweet? I dunno, but I'll explore this idea and try again.

I realized I should stick to what I know instead of trying to be a smart ass, I'm a one trick pony after all. Heheheh. That's how I ended up with my dishes, sweet & sour sausages and the Indonesian sate sosis.

As for the Hello Kitty craziness...
I just wanted to have fun and create something mad for the event, instead of just bringing dishes.
I thought of making a whole table of food bloggers, most of them would resemble the bloggers who would attend the event, but OK, that's too damn ambitious, there's no way I could do that.

Then I thought of creating a mini me (a food blogger) out of cocktail sausages, but ok that's so damn narcissistic, I feel disgusted even as I am typing this up. Ugh.

So what's cute, somewhat relevant to Hong Kong, and relevant to the event?
Uh huh! Hello Kitty food blogger, my friend.
Hello Kitty Food Blogger - My Blog is Cuter Than Yours - Cocktail Sausage Food Sculpture
I used these light colored small sausages. A tanned Hello Kitty would be cute too, but I tried to be as close as its original colors.

I bought a variety of stuff to realize my Kitty ambition.
Hello Kitty Food Blogger - My Blog is Cuter Than Yours - Cocktail Sausage Food Sculpture
Seaweed and seaweed strands for the eyes and whiskers, cheese for the nose, maybe add some food coloring for the red bow. Crackers and cracker sticks in case I need to build a table...

Hello Kitty Food Blogger - My Blog is Cuter Than Yours - Cocktail Sausage Food Sculpture
I had to make a lot of plan Bs...it's hard to stick anything to the sausages as they're oily! Everything slides down and fall off when touched, especially after the oil's dried out. I ended up using rice for the nose, stuck it to the face using a toothpick. I used honey as glue, small sharp scissors and tweezers helped a lot!

Hello Kitty Food Blogger - My Blog is Cuter Than Yours - Cocktail Sausage Food Sculpture
What's a food blogger without food? This was pretty straight forward. Rice, seaweed strands, toothpicks and sliced cocktail sausages to resemble luncheon meat. Very Hong Kong la!

The camera's made of sausage wrapped with seaweed. This failed in the end, after a while, the seaweed peeled off..and I had a bit of a disaster with the bow too...the cheese melted. I was so upset. I tried to keep everything savoury, as if we're going to end up eating the whole thing (warning, food poisoning?), but in the end I gave up and made the bow and camera out of pink Sugus candies.
Hello Kitty Food Blogger - My Blog is Cuter Than Yours - Cocktail Sausage Food Sculpture
The slogan "my blog is cuter than yours" was made out of alphabet pasta and changed the banner to resemble a talk icon.

Whew! It's been so long since I've been so mad.
It felt so good, I look forward to more madness.

More pics are posted on my Facebook Page.
