Unmotivated

I have been feeling so unmotivated since Thanksgiving! Right after we celebrated Thanksgiving we got our first snow storm, and then another and another! Between the 3 storms we have piled up a considerable amount of snow, may 50". It is hard to measure because of the wind! And then there is the cold, windchill was -40* this morning!! I love snow, but even I have had enough now that Christmas is over! The kids are not able to get out and play very often, and even if they could there is not much to do outside! The snow does not pack well so snowmen are few and far between. The swing set is buried, only the top couple of inches of the slide is visible and the swings are hidden in the snow.
Hubby is hoping to hit the ice and do a little fishing this weekend. We will see how that goes, if the weather will let him.
I haven't accomplished much of anything lately. I was hoping once the kids went back to school after the new year I would be able to check a bunch of stuff off of my ever-growing to do list. I am starting to think I packed my motivation in one of the Christmas decoration boxes. LOL I would much rather be working in my garden but instead I have this.......

Our A/C unit. This was taken a couple of weeks ago, it is now completely snow covered!

This pile of snow is where my husband cleared out our driveway, again this was a couple of weeks ago and is much larger now. And yes, it is almost as tall as our garage!

This is a beautiful sundog. It looks like a rainbow around the sun caused by ice crystals in the atmosphere. They really are pretty cool!!
Oh well, spring will be here before I know it, right? And just maybe it will bring my motivation with it!!

Summer in North Dakota is just getting started

Summers on the prairie in North Dakota a simply gorgeous! I snapped this canola field while out and about with the hubby last weekend. We had a block of time to spend with each other, a rarity these days! We spent a good part of the day road tripping and out running  scattered popup storms in the area. A small  storm was rolling in and the contrast between the dark sky and the brilliant yellow blooms of the canola took my breath away. I really wish I had grabbed my camera before heading out the door!! It has been too long since my last trip out with my camera, way too long!! Hopefully soon I can get reacquainted with my camera... and with this area that I have grown to love!! The next month or so the crops will be blooming and I want to capture as many as I can!

Peaceful Sunday 2/26/12

This is how the Prairie looked yesterday..... now imagine how it looks today.... with over 5 inches of snow covering it. LOL

Oil and gas are not the only forms of energy that are abundant in ND. We also have lots of wind! We also have lots of wind turbines.

If you look closely, you will see the steps and door at the base of the front turbine. That gives you an idea of how huge these things are. They can be seen from miles away.

North Dakota also is home to abandoned buildings, lots of abandoned buildings!

Ice fishing! yep, they do that here too.

This gives you an idea of how far out on the ice they drive their trucks. A couple of weeks ago this lake had many trucks and shacks, we were expecting a storm so there were not as many on the ice yesterday.

This area is where Lewis and Clark spent a good deal of time, so there are many things that honor them.

I think the Indian Head road signs are pretty cool.
The kids have been in and out all day. I swear it takes more time to bundle  and unbundle than play time out side. :-) Hunter has said several times today that this is the best winter ever!! (And yes, they had Snow cream for the first time and loved it!)
Thanks for stopping by!!

Peaceful Sunday 2/19/12

It has been awhile since the last Peaceful Sunday post. It was beautiful yesterday and I took the camera along for the day.
Hard to believe it is February in ND.

Cattle in the White Earth Valley.

ND is perfect for someone like me.. someone who loves old buildings. (I think the wood holds up because the air is so dry.) This looks like an old house.

I can't help trying to imagine what once was at this old farmstead. It must have been beautiful with the slough in front of the house.

Love the old truck in this photo, along with the old barn! :-)
White Earth Lake, it is hard to tell from this picture, but the lake is frozen. That is ice you see.
An old building full of character- and I bet at one time it was filled with characters!! LOL

The sign over the door of the building above- it is a jail!! LOL
I wonder why the horseshoe is hanging upside down.......

 And old building.
LOL, This cat was watching some children play in the yard next door.
A couple of derailed cars at hubby's work. He said more would have derailed but they fell against the building.
(Hubby does drive the train from time to time, but not at this facility. So, no hubby did not wreck the train. LOL)

Liked this shot. LOL

Peaceful Monday

We had a beautiful weekend, it was in the 30's and 40's. I know, hard to believe, right? Because the temps were up the snow melted some which caused the air to not be so dry. When that moisture in the air froze last night, look what happened....
That is our Apple tree in the center of this photo.

Our Lilac hedge. (Lilacs are used a lot in North Dakota as wind breaks. I was tickled to still see some Lilacs still in bloom in the area in September!! I LOVE Lilacs!!)

Our beautiful little pine. Wouldn't that make the perfect Christmas tree? (To bad we can not bring it in and decorate it then return it to the yard to grow a little more.)

More pines in our yard. These are near the apple tree.

Across the street. I am hoping that maybe some deer will come to this stand of trees. (I really hope a moose comes along!! And yes, that is a possibility!! There are moose in the area!!)
