Starlights Bauble

Hello Crafters, do you have that Friday feeling?  It's party time :o)  I hope you're all looking forward to it.
I've had a bit of a busy week so today's card is quite simple.  I've used lots of familiar things so lets get started.

This was a 6" x 6" card matted with black, silver and then white card.

Ingredients as follows:

Spellbinders Ornament
Hobby Art Winter Wishes Stamps (Reduced on the website)

I cut out one of the Baubles from one of my Spellbinders ornament dies and painted it with Starlights Silver, mixing it on a tile with a very small amount of water.  Left that one side to dry.

I then cut out a Poinsettia Die and some Holly Sprays and again painted them in the same way.  I painted the little berries on the holly spray with a little of the red Starlights but decided they needed a little extra sparkle so topped them off with some Xmas Red Stickles.

Here are the components:

After matting all the card stock, I glued the holly spray in place leaving the end so I could tie a small piece of cotton through the bauble to look like it was hanging from the branch, then glued the bauble in place.

The second Holly Spray was cut in half and glued either side of the bauble, then mounted the assembled Poinsettia in place and finished it off with an Iridescent gem.

I then stamped a Merry Christmas Sentiment and the card was done.............

As I said very quick and simple, but a little festive cheer.

See you soon, love Jan -x -

Happy Christmas From Norman

Hello blog visitors, Kirsten here with two cards featuring this happy chap from Hobby Art’s
Norman & Friends collection of rubber stamps.

001

I stamped twice with Tuxedo Black Memento ink onto smooth white card stock & coloured with Promarker alcohol ink pens.

003

For the first card I dry embossed a square of white card with an embossing folder. Then I used a stencil brush to very lightly apply Festive Berries distress ink. This is an instance where less is most definitely more, so don’t push your brush onto either the ink pad or the card, just sweep it over the top & repeat until you get the look you want.

I used a Spellbinders die to cut a shape around Norman, attached him with foam pads & then added the embellishments.

006

This time I used shades of blue & green after finding the patterned paper in my stash. I  heat embossed the white card with WOW Clear Sparkle EP on the snowflake images, but for some reason it didn’t work on the left hand side, so I die cut some snowflakes & attached them with white, glittered brads. I used a blue grey Promarker to create the effect of snow drifts & applied glitter glue on top. This stops Norman looking as if he was floating in mid-air. I used Glossy Accents to highlight a few areas on both cards, such as the star on the tree & some of the diamond shapes on the patterned paper below.

Until next time, happy crafting.

New Blog Challenge & A Winner

Happy June 1st blog visitors!  Thank you to everyone who took part in the May challenge, we had the highest number of entries yet.  With out further ado, I asked random.org to pick the winner & it chose……

Which corresponds with DEBBIE S!

Congratulations Debbie!!  Please contact Lisa at lisabaker1@btinternet.com & she will give you your voucher code. Lisa is away for a week so there may be a delay in her getting back to you but rest assured she will contact you when she is back. And if you would like to add the blog winner button to your blog, just copy & paste it from the sidebar.

This month, with Father’s Day occurring on June 16,  the challenge is all about projects for the men in our lives & most, if not all, of my projects throughout the month will be made with the challenge theme in mind.

Here’s my first card.  There are links to all the items I used at the end of this post.

This is an 8x8 card blank & the first layer is a square of Core’dinations, which I slightly distressed around the edges.

The second layer is also Core’dinations.  I dry embossed it with the lattice embossing folder & sanded over the top.

The next layer is a piece of kraft card.  I drew a grid on it with a waterproof pen – I used a PITT pen, there are others available, including Sharpies – used Fired Brick distress ink through the stencil & went over the top with Vintage Photo.

Next step, the label.  Again, it’s a piece of kraft card.  I embossed it first with clear embossing powder.  Then covered it again with Versamark & used a spoon to add different embossing powders; dark brown, tan, deep red.  I repeated that step, with the addition of a tiny amount of WOW Clear Sparkle EP.

The coloured EPs I used are not the best quality, when heated they go white in places.  But for a distressed/vintage appearance that’s fine.

When the label was completely cold, I bent it until cracks appeared.

The letters are Sizzix alphabet dies from my stash.  Rather than use foam pads to give height, I cut three of each letter & glued them together with Cosmic Shimmer glue.  I attached the label with metal brads & added some tissue tape to the corners.  It was a little too white, so I blended Vintage Photo DI over it.

The clock face is a Kanban stamp & I cut the circles with a Spellbinders die & layered them together.  I stamped another Kanban stamp on the top layer with Coffee Archival ink & heat set with clear EP, then covered with a gold ink – I did that a few times, drying in between each layer.  I attached the metal embellishment to the clock with Glossy Accents, then covered the clock face with it.  The addition of a few card candi from Craftwork Cards & the card was finished.

Lisa's CHA Adventure, part 1

Morning all, Kirsten here, 'tis snowing rather a lot here in Kent.  And in much of the rest of the country too, judging by the weather forecast.  Hope you're warm & cozy, wherever you are.

Since returning from California, Lisa has been madly busy sending out orders & working on other things, which are top secret & VERY hush-hush, so she has sent me some of her CHA photos to share with you.  If you visit her Facebook page, you can see some of her Disneyland pics.

These first two are of the Convention Center in Anaheim, where CHA Winter takes place every year.  Don't let the sunshine fool you, it was COLD in California.  I have a friend who lives in the desert, about 80 miles from Anaheim & it started snowing two days before CHA opened.

This is a beautiful vintage card from cheerylynndesigns.com.

See this entire piece in the second blog post of Lisa's CHA photos.

If I've got it right, these are Spellbinders' samples.  They launched a new machine at CHA, called The Artisan X-plorer, which is intended for cutting metal, fabric, plastic, etc.  Lisa wants to get more information on this machine, before she decides if she will stock it.  I use the Big Shot, which already cuts all of these, so I can't comment.  This is from the Spellbinders' blog:

Introducing the new Spellbinders™ Artisan X-plorer™ Machine, a multi-purpose, high pressure machine! This elegantly designed, compact roller press is perfect for cutting, embossing and pressing with a multitude of materials, including paper, metals, fabrics, plastics and more!

Right, blogger won't let me post any more pictures in this post, (they've made some 'updates', which are incompatible with IE, apparently), so I'll end here & do other post immediately with more of Lisa's photos.
