MDF Box Tutorial with Imagination Crafts Rice Papers....

Good morning all,

I am away on my hol's still, so this is a scheduled post again for me and as I promised I have brought to you a step by step tutorial of how to make a Vintage MDF Box like the one pictured below, so grab yourself a cuppa and settle in as it is quite a long one........

Here are the products that I used:

MDF Box with hinged lid and decorative clasp
Imagination White Chalk MDF Paint
Imagination Pebble Shore MDF Paint

Step by Step:

It is actually easier to paint your box if first you remove the hinges and clasp using a small screw driver and put aside in a safe place ( this comes from my experience of getting them lost....lol! )

Paint the box using Imagination White Chalk MDF paint, you can use either a brush or a brayer roller and apply 2 coats of paint allowing the paint to dry between coats. You can speed up the drying process by using a heat gun.

To give the box its soft, vintage feel you need to 'dry brush' small amounts of the soft rose coloured paint onto areas of the box.
To mix the paint colour put a little of the Pebble Shore on to your non-stick Craft Mat and mix with some of the Dried Rose Starlight paint to achieve a soft chalky pink colour. Using a dry paint brush randomly brush the paint over the box as shown in the picture.

While the box is drying take your sheet of Rice Paper and using a wet paint brush trace around the images one at a time.

A top tip is to gently pull the edges of the wet paper to separate the images, as shown in the picture.

This will give a soft feathery edge to the images giving the look of printed images on the finished box.

Decoupage glue is specially designed to be used on all kinds of paper and it is particularly effective on rice paper. To apply the glue to the images place the image face down on the mat and apply the glue generously to the back of the paper.

Work on a piece at a time and position the images on the lid and the box as shown in the picture.

Then carry on adding other rice paper elements around your box.

To complete your box and give it a retro, vintage feel use the Art-Cutz to add texture and interest.
Art-Cutz are specially designed to take paint, mediums, paste, glue and any other colouring mediums without buckling, stretching or twisting out of shape. If you don't like the colour of your Art-cutz just paint over it to change the colour to something you prefer.

To use your Art-cutz economically for several projects just cut up what you need for your project and put the rest aside to use in another project later.

So that the Art-cutz perfectly match your box paint them with the same soft rose colour as before. Once they have dried, stick your Art-Cutz to the box with the Cosmic Shimmer Glue.

Your box is now finished for you to enjoy!

I really hope that you enjoyed this tutorial and it inspires you to have a go......

Have a great week my lovelies

Until next week....
Big hugs
Lisa B xx

Class Projects, a little bit of altering ......

Good morning my lovelies,

I hope that you are all well and I do hope that you have managed to catch a little bit of the summer sun that has been around for the last few days as I think we have a little bit more rain on the way....

So today I thought that I would show you the main samples that I designed for last Friday on which the class was based. It was a lovely day and so good to see so many lovely ladies and share some crafty time together. You all made fabulous creations whether it was a altered box or bottle or two rice paper cards....

The box below was created using Imagination Crafts Rice papers, Art-Cutz, Alchemy Waxes along with Deco Art Chalk Paints. This particular paper below that I used is a gorgeous vintage design. Rice papers are printed on to a mulberry paper that has a cotton and silk slub that runs through them and this makes them a lot more durable than normal de-coupage papers. This enables you to be able to cut designs from them away like paper or you can wet them with a paint brush and tear them to get a lovely fringed edge. You can apply them with De-coupage Glue to any surface...

I will be showing you a step by step tutorial of how you can create a box like this next Wednesday on this blog....

A closer look at the sides.....

And then to the bottle......

I love decorating bottles and bringing them to life and will be showing you many more soon on the blog.
This is the rice paper that I used for the bottle below....

Pattern 200

I also added some torn script paper for extra detailing....

You can see the overlaying of the script on the lavender rice paper....

The bottle was finished off by adding some Alchemy Wax to the raised detail on the bottle....

For the ladies that chose to make the cards, the first was an acetate tuck in card using a beautiful rice paper with Paris and butterflies on it, unfortunately I could only get enough stock in to do the project as Imagination Crafts had no more, however I will stock up as soon as they have.....

The second card was made with one of my favourite Rice Papers and Art Stamps from Imagination Crafts and also using White Gold Starlights to stamp with in the background. The stamp was the Script Stamp and the paper was Pattern 115 ...

Adding a little Antique Linen Distress ink around the edges of the main feature on the card.
The little butterflies were just some of the remnants left over from the first card....

Well I hope that has given you a little inspiration with rice papers and gave you the urge to up cycle a bottle or box and give it a makeover. As I said I will be back next week with an in depth tutorial of how to do a box. I will actually be away in Sunny Spain from next week  for two weeks as I need a well earned rest so will be scheduling my posts so that you don't miss out.....

Have a good week...
Big hugs
Lisa B xxx

May Class in Maidstone

Good morning blog visitors, Kirsten here, I hope you’re enjoying your weekend so far.  I wanted to do a quick blog post to share with you some photos from Friday's classes in Maidstone.  It was a busy day.  We had almost thirty people at each class & there were people visiting the shop throughout the day also.

The classes were all about die cuts, using some of the dies in the photo below.  Lisa worked out that she cut approximately 1200 pieces in total!

Here are the cards we made.  Underneath the flower on the white card is a piece of Shimmer Film, which was enormously popular with everyone at both classes.  The white sold out almost instantly, but Lisa is ordering more, so if you want it, drop her an email at enquiries@lisabdesigns.co.uk

The flowers on the lilac are ALL individual pieces & there was much hilarity as we tried to stick them onto the flower head underneath.  They certainly looked very effective once we’d layered them up & added a little Diamond Stickles on top.

Lisa will be putting the new products on the website in the coming days, so we’ll keep you posted on that & between us we’ll be featuring them in the coming days & weeks.

Hope you've enjoyed this glimpse into the class & a big thank you to everyone who attended.  It was lovely to see you & we hope you had an enjoyable time.

Sadly, there will be no class in June - Lisa is taking a VERY well-deserved holiday -  or July.  But in July we hold the annual Extravaganza Day, on July 20th.  There will be some well-known demonstrators, make and takes & the entire mobile shop, so make a note of the date & spread the word among your crafting friends.  We’ll post more information as the date gets closer.

Also, remember the challenge.  It lasts the entire month, the prize is a £20 voucher to spend at lisabdesigns.co.uk & you’ll find all the details on the challenge page.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.  Until next time, happy crafting.

Kirsten

More Altered Art Creations.........

Good Morning Bloggers,

I thought I would share with you this week, some close ups of my altered art creations that I created to inspire my ladies at last Friday's workshop.
The first one is actually one of the boxes that they all created on Friday.
They all put there own individual spin on the box and if you look at the last post you can see some of there fantastic creations..........

These are the  sides of the box, the papers used on this box are 'Ladies Diary from Graphic 45' which are on the website HERE
They are very gorgeous papers to work with.......

I painted the box with white acyrlic paint and then dragged it with Victorian Velvet Distress Ink.
I then started to make embellished panels to cover the box.......

For the topand sides of the box, I ran the paper through an embossing folder to add texture and then sanded it back and then further embellished.
The beautiful ornate scissors are part of the steampunk range of charms on my website HERE ..........

I also lined the box with co-ordinating papers to give it a lovely finish.......

Let me know what you think of the box......
I love to read your comments and to know that you have visited.
Tomorrow, all going well I hope to bring you Indigo Blu altered art clock which will be available from my website from tommorow along with the new stamps.......
Until then,
Big Hugs Lisa. B.x
