This morning I walked for 2 1/4 hours, exploring the snowy fields at Petikko. There was 15-25 cm of unbroken snow on the ground. Well, unbroken except for some deer tracks.

I commuted by bicycle on only two days this week. Still, I got over seven hours of exercise: four hours riding the bicycle, 1 1/2 hours shoveling snow and 1 1/2 hours walking.

We got plenty of snow today. Commuting by train went well, but because of the snow it took some effort to get the car moving from the parking place at the station. The weather station at Helsinki-Vantaa airport got crazy, claiming the the depth of snow is 54 cm when yesterday it was 6 cm. I think the actual depth of snow is 30-35 cm.

The weather forecast promises 20 cm of snow for tomorrow. Traffic conditions won't be great. I'm planning to commute by car and train instead of bicycle.

I commuted by bicycle today. There was snow and ice on the road, but it was not bad with the studded winter tires. The depth of snow is now 5 cm, so the landscape looks like winter.

I woke up early today, and rode my bicycle to Timmermalmi, exploring the forests and swamps on foot, getting 2 1/2 hours of exercise. Later today I have some more exercise in the program.

Today was a rainy day. In the morning I got soaking wet while commuting by bicycle. The clothes were still wet in the afternoon when I started riding back home. And I got soaking wet once again.
The Finnish government fell today, after the "Finns Party" elected an openly racist leader yesterday. Now the Finns Party is out of government, and negotiations about a new coalition have started. I hope human rights are remembered.
Yesterday, after the Finns Party election result was announced, I was quite shocked. As therapy I made a donation to the Disaster Relief Fund of the Finnish Red Cross. That helped a bit.

Here in Finland things are not fine. Yesterday the "True Finns" party elected a convicted racist Jussi Halla-aho as their leader, and all chair persons of the Finns Party are hardcore anti-immigrants. The Finnish government could fall as a result, and in fact this might be the best case scenario. As a sidenote, the Norwegian far-right terrorist and mass murderer Anders Breivik (now known as Fjotolf Hansen) credited Jussi Halla-aho's writings as his inspiration for considering "the left" as the enemy.

This morning I visited the golf course at Petikko. I don't mean that I played golf (Trump is reason enough to alienate from such thoughts). Instead, I explored the forests on the east side of the golf course. In all I got 2 1/2 hours of walking.
Each morning before reading the news I wonder whether they have managed to clean the house, or is Trump still president?

I have been rather busy today, and haven't had time to follow what is happening in the world. Is Trump still president?

Today the temperature rose to 22 °C in the afternoon. There was 8 m/s backwind when commuting by bicycle. Sometimes it is just too easy.

Yesterday I visited the Kytäjä-Usmi outdoor area in Hyvinkää, walking over four hours up and down hills. This time I explored the northeast part of the area, walking along and across river Vantaa, which is quite narrow this far north. I carried provisions with me, taking a short break for eating and drinking, so I didn't get very tired. Many places felt familiar, until I realized that I was either thinking of another part of Kytäjä-Usmi with similar characteristics, or another place altogether. I have visited Kytäjä-Usmi once or twice each year, and should remember to do it again at some point. So far I haven't seen Gavia stellata which is said to be nesting there.
