Sunrise over Watts Bar Lake

This Watts Bar Lake sunrise was taken during the fall of 2008,
while Jimmy and I were living out of the Spring City motel.

No Great Blue Heron here either,

but I probably saw him later that morning.

Crosses for Good Friday

I, like lots of other people photograph crosses.
It is one of the many things I seem to collect.
My daughter and daughter-in-law have cross collections in their homes.
I collect the photographs.
This first photo was taken in Cartagena, Columbia, February 2009,
it is high on the hill overlooking the city.Next is at a little church in Rhea County.
I never thought about the significance of this cross being in the foundation of the church until I was preparing this post. It just hit me, they were sending the message that their church's foundation was the cross. Nice message. The lawn of McCampbell United Methodist Church, close to Dandridge, Tennessee.
The next 3 photos were all taken at Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center, May 2008. The first photo is a natural grown cross, donated to Lake Junaluska.
While there I knew I had to capture the famous Lake Junaluska cross at sunrise. Inside one of the lobbies at Lake Junaluska.
Laurel Valley Community Church in Virginia.
The August post on this church can be view here.
(Darla, it is 'your' church.)
Don't know the name of this church,
it was in the area of Marion, Viriginia.
St Augustine at sunset, seen from a boat, April 2008.
Hope you have enjoyed a small collection of my
photographs of crosses on this Good Friday.

Sunshine Skyway Bridge at sunrise

The Sunshine Skyway Bridge is the world's largest bridge with a cable stayed main span.
I have added a link about this bridge for those interested.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunshine_Skyway_Bridge
February 2009, early one morning we were going to
Fort DeSoto Park to see the birds.
Right after we paid our entrance fee (30 cents)
and started into the park, this is what we saw, as we
crossed the first bridge.
We stopped at the end of the bridge and hurried back to the center of the bridge
so I could try and capture the sunrise in time.
The first 3 photos were taken from that bridge.

Then we went straight to the south beach.

The last 3 photos were taken from the south beach at Fort DeSoto Park.

Arriving at Limon, Costa Rica February 9, 2009

Well. I finally went through the Costa Rica photos from our February trip.
These 3 photos were taken as we arrived in port.
I know they look like good Skywatch photos, but I just don't have the time for Skywatch right now. It takes too much work visiting all those other (300+) blogs.

That dot way out there is a ship. The dark line on the right is the edge of my balcony.

I was not going to start this series today, but it is St Patrick's day, and the 3rd post of this series is really green. So here goes, there will be 3 different post today.

Before sunrise at Watts Bar - Sky Watch Dec 19

Just waiting for the sun to come up one September morning.
None of us seem to be seeing much color, so pulled this out of the archives to post.
A reminder this dreary look we are seeing right now will not last.

Newfound Gap at Sunrise - Skywatch Friday November 14

All four of these photographs were taken at Newfound Gap in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in southeast USA. They were taken between 6:37AM and 6:50AM on October 22, 2008.
You can see where the park got the nicknames of the Smokies and the Blue Ridges.

Sunrise at Newfound Gap in GSMNP

These photographs were taken this past Monday morning at Newfound Gap in the Smokey Mountain National Park.
The colors are beautiful, but I don't think they are at their peak yet.

Grand Canyon at Sunrise - Sky Watch Sept 26

Sunrise in the Grand Canyon, September 2007. The most beautiful time in the Canyon.

Not much you can add to this awesome show of God's creations. It was an amazing trip. Everybody seems to like the previous post of sunrise at the Grand Canyon, so I decided to post these too. This are more like normal sunrise photographs, except of course, they are still the Grand Canyon.

Please visit Sky Watch to great skies from all over the world.

Grand Canyon Sunrise Photos- Skywatch Sept 26

Both of these photographs were taken at sunrise in the Grand Canyon, September 2007.The bottom photograph is my absolute favorite of the whole trip. I just turned around and this man was standing there taking in the awesomeness (is that a word, if not it should be), unaware of anybody around him. A print of this photograph now hangs in my supervisor's office. This photograph has not been touched, this is the way it turned out. The Smoky's turn blue, I guess the Canyon turns brown.

Sunrise in the woods of Virginia

These photos were taken during my trip to Virginia, mentioned in my June Events. I was in a small park, with a trail to '2 Ponds'. I visited both ponds and was headed back to the parking lot.
When I started up this slope a bee buzzed me, and as I swatted it away, I glanced down the side of this walk. I was looking right at a small fawn curled up about 3 feet from me. We looked each other in the eye for about 1/2 second, that seemed like 1/2 hour. Then she was up and out of my sight in a flash. Sound like the tall fish story? I felt about as pitiful as the when the fish got away.

Sunrise over Douglas Lake

Sunrise at Douglas Lake in East Tennessee this morning. Not sure I picked the correct morning to set the alarm to drive to the lake to try to capture the beauty. My paying job is 4P to midnight and I have a bad habit of getting on the computer when I get home, so I have to set the alarm. On top of that, there is a mountain range directly across the road from my house so I don't even see sunrise at my house, so I cannot tell anything about it until I drive to the lake. I have seen better, but at least it was not covered in fog so badly the lake was not even visible.Even on a so-so morning, still see God's glory.
